pierre bastien is a french legend that has collaborated with artists such as robert wyatt. jac berrocal and jaki liebezeit. to name just a few. he is also very well known for his compositions based on home-made mechanical instruments. designed and constructed by bastien himself. pure diy. using these instruments he would create a heady experimental mix incorporating poetry and some far-out music. all in all very intriguing and original indeed. needless to say when the notion of pierre bastien and versatile records potentially making a project together arose. it was a total honour! throw into the mix esteemed electro-acoustic composer eddie ladoire and now we ve really got something interesting. eddie and pierre met when they appeared on the same concert bill together and they decided to collaborate further with versatile being the platform for the fruits of this particular project. the original version of phantom dance is a beautiful piece where bastien plays a trumpet into some water blended with electronic drums and mellow organs lines. creating an otherworldly. subterranean jazz vibe for the freaks. suzanne kraft. the la native / amsterdam based producer turns the original into some mechanical broken funk vibes while rotterdam s oceanic delivers 2 fresh. reimagined versions. one for for the club with a strong afro beat feel while the other one is a slower affair for the after hours. both mixes bringing something new to the table. a truly original and interesting release from some very talented people. for those with open ears and open minds!

much may have changed over a two-decade period. but drumcode s commitment to releasing the scene s most cutting-edge and refined techno remains resolute. 2017 has already seen releases from adam beyer vs pig&dan. alan fitzpatrick. ilario alicante. julian jeweil. as well as a debut album from layton giordani. the label continues push forwards. bringing fail-safe. club-ready music to the techno community. perennial pushers of the techno envelope. dense & pika are renowned for their standout studio output that seems to constantly conjure up a particularly unique take on their distinct sound. d&p have rather outdone themselves in 2017. kicking off the year with a selection of back catalogue remixes from the likes of danny daze. scuba. slam and yotam avni that illustrated the high esteem in which d&p are held by their peers right across the spectrum. from heritage acts to current headliners and cutting edge talent. the duo have gone on to drop bomb after bomb after bomb. their universally lauded remix of tiga s louder than a bomb was the first of a run of chart topping cuts. with a remix of me & her s wild rage on jamie jones hottrax imprint and their own casino single both challenging the norm of what techno sounds like in the here and now. cooked up with a more melodic vibe and fusing elements of house and techno. dense & pika s latest outing on drumcode offers something different compared to their previous work. there is still that vintage feel to each of the tracks with analogue sounds and arrangements born and developed from experimental studio jams. indeed. suki heavily utilizes the distinct harmonic tones of the dave smith prophet 8 keyboard. while little sun - a staple of d&p performances over the last three months - delivers a more classic drumcode sound. lanky closes out the release with an infectious slab of wonderfully wonked-out raw funk

the visionary from detroit. terrence dixon. is back to 30d records with an exquisite pack of vanguard tastefully built on techno. this fifth chapter of the exoplanets series is powered with two original cuts and a pair of remixes.
the homonymous title track. “digital ladder”. sinks us to a hypnotic state conducted by a dreamy and evocative sequence. the big dasha rush takes over the message and reframes it getting percussive expressiveness and savoir faire on her remix.
b side starts with the second dixon’s proposal. “this is a test”. same artistic tools. different discourse. shape and result. on this track. experimentalism gets us higher with a fanciful cyclic pattern. garnished with sporadic ascensions. that streams on a subtile bassdrum. 30drop takes the relay to carry up the message to his own stylistic universe constructing a fine solid remix.
“digital ladder” is an abstract and immersive trip to some place beyond the consciousness that relies into the core of the vanguard dancefloor. you can’t miss it!
as we move forward. corseque records introduces a concept which we simply call faction. a series of joint releases between artists from different corners of our beloved scene and label head ascorbite. for the third vinyl we are pleased to have with us berlin based producer mike wall (wall music/wall music limited).
so. after a little break we’re back with a new release. this time we’re joined by the multi-talented production powerhouse that is swarm intelligence (aka simon hayes). landing heavy with four bruising techno cuts that each find their own unique way of taking your head off. ear017 is a bumpy journey through darker club flavours. ‘flatlands’ opens things up. reminiscent of the type of marching. granite-heavy brum techno of old – this is minimal in construction but maximum in its impact. move forward to ‘ground up’ where demonic. dissonant keys take the lead above a rattling midrange that sounds like a corrugated roof ready to fly off. opting for cleaner. elastic drum patterns on ‘tingla’. hayes swaps tense for dense. with a loud take on steppy techno. that’ll please fans of some of blawan’s earlier work. ‘skitz’ starts out an a more dub tip with a wailing. paranoia inducing hook and snaking rhythms. eventually joined by more hard-hitting broken kicks. leading us comfortably into oblivion.
marco resmann returns to watergate after a productive stint at the red bull music studios in cape town with two stellar cuts featuring local heroes deep aztec and black soda. tack on a remix from the one and only oliver huntemann and another revision from resmann himself and you have the ‘babylon side ep. teaming up to kick things off. resmann. black soda and deep aztec embrace the cultural sounds of africas organic percussion and vocal prowess to create a tour de force tune perfectly balance between flashing club lights and vast open skies. following suit. ‘abadala sees marco again with deep aztec for a lush ride into deep emotional spaces by applying mesmerizing syncopated rhythms and spellbinding vocals ideal for deeper or more sentimental dance floor moments. up next is techno legend oliver huntemann who. playing after resmann earlier this year at the 15 years of watergate event at warung beach club in brazil enjoyed his set and the two hit it off. so logically he was asked to lend his trademark sound for a revision of ‘babylon side and he twists the original into a heavy techno belter complete with sinister sonics and fever inducing sirens. wrapping things up is marco resmann himself with his own take on ‘babylon sides and delivers a wild and twisted version of gargantuan low end and psychedelic shimmers of the original vocal resulting in a killer tune with a ton of attitude.

mindtrip is glad to introduce dold. a huge young talent from the swedish techno scene. known for his first releases on float records and his platform arsenik. ‘shutdown ep showcases a big range of his musical identity. dold takes us into a hypnotic journey with his melodic interpretations. while he moves things faster on the darkest side of this ep. with his driven techno tracks fully inspired by 909 patterns and analog synth jams. we are really happy to welcome such a young and furious spirit on the label. and we do believe his tunes work best if you play them out loud. this is mindtrip!
moto music round off a cracking year with this essential collection of deep diving techno finery from bigeneric. one of marco repetto s many long-lasting aliases. the swiss polymath is a dab hand at wringing illustrious machine soul out of his machines. whether it be crafty. head-snagging rhythms or plush and expressive threads of synth work. and on this double pack you get an abundance of both. with one foot firmly in the heritage of detroit and the other gazing into the stellar orbit of the finest european techno dreamers. this is elegant. thoughtful electronic music of the highest order.
ikeaboy is the intermittent project from damian tubbritt. who first debuted the moniker more than ten years ago. it s been a long while since any fresh material from this deep cover curio of oddball techno hit wax. but now wicked bass have done the honourable thing and gathered up this excellent trio of tracks. shape memory plies a funky line in squelchy bass and jangling delay trills. while living in the future opts for a more mysterious. pad soaked trip into spooked out electro. on the b-side dayna sports some forthright drum machine beats and epic sweeps of synths that only serve to confound any expectations you might have about the sound of ikeaboy.

savas pascalidis releases heavy new ep brain waves on atrophic society savas pascalidis is an artist who needs little in the way of introduction. having a career that spans the last 25 years. and releases on a staggering number of great labels (gigolo records. kurbel. non series. mote evolver. stockholm ltd. children of tommorow. skudge. figure and many more). were proud to welcome savas to the atrophic society family. brain waves sees further exploration of the techno that defines savas’ sound. savage. grooving and dripping in nuance. all four cuts on this ep will set the night on fire. distant dreams is a tunnelling beast that twists and turns over itself with insistent percussive slaps and grooving bass. underpinning a driving synth line that stacks up to create a furious ep opener. there were no parts to work from to make a remix with. so in a total class move echologist drops a cover mix of the b1 track resonate. though it could be said that it’s inspired by all the original tracks on the ep. he strips it back to the bare necessities and propels it forward in true echologist style. the original of resonate is noisey and blustery as the title would suggest. hissing and bleeping over a mid range bassline that tastefully peaks and troughs for the length of the journey. finally. rounding out the ep in total class. subminimal crescendo’s with layers of noise and delay over a funk-fuelled rhythm. all four tracks on this forward thinking ep for atrophic society are essential machine-made music and an outstanding addition to savas body of work.

after solemnly closing out the spc-series in 2016. jeroen search hands in his second ep of the year for figure. carrying his signature style. these tunes embody the live-recording feel he is known for. perfectly executed and arranged in clean-cut layers. both tracks on the a-side feature big and beefy beats. their generous sub-range creating ample space for the juxtaposing elements to effectively slice through. whether it be the penetrating bleeps of deduced or the piercing rides on interval. things get bumpy on the flip when the rugged but undeniable groove of steady pulse firmly stands its ground against repeated onslaughts of flailing percussion. the jolty rhythms and tinkling loops of endless circles may seem like it being the odd one out. but unexpectedly merge into an intricate mesh of sounds. making for a most memorable closer to this jam-packed ep.
debut album by the keinemusik crue! double vinyl album format including 10 brand new tracks by rampa. adam port. &me. including download coupon of the digital album. the front side of the cover is hidden beneath a black varnish that can be removed by rubbing it with your fingers.

a strong selection of remixes for dj emersons latest album >repetitive music<. johannes heil strips things down and delievers a monotone monster of a track with a heavy and dark kickdrum. yan cook puts the broken beats of >anonymous< straight and transfers it into a throbbing dark and heavy track. markus suckut aka tales of the machines is having one of his most succesful years ever with the release of his album and the uprise of his exile label. this track really shows what his t.o.t.m. moniker is all about. nothing but pure unadulterated techno in the most underground sense. oliver deutschmann delievers a groove driven version of >string theory< great rolling tune with a perfect sound and build-up.
“i’m not at all sorry. now that he’s dead.
he took my cheese and ate it in my stead.
he’s punished by fate - god. you’ve avenged me.”
“the fox and the raven” is the maiden release for denise rabe’s self titled label. conceived to be the channel thru which her personal. unfiltered. haunting sound will find it’s body and voice.
exemplifying this with the 3 cuts on “the fox and the raven”: driven. hypnotic. techno with a chasing sense of urgency. balanced with eeire lamenting melodies. perfectly fitting the tales of lore chosen to illustrate each release like a volume in an odyssey.
concluding this chapter. a limited pressing of 300 reproductions serigraphed. embossed and scented. echoing how like fables. music. occupies a tangible moment in the listeners life and space.
american electro rap legend kyper checks in with the german label ground control.
produced by the brazilian bass connection (bbc) aka heliobranco and tom oliver. the new song let the bass come out clear delivers a shameless old school miami bass orgy with heavy 808 beats. 80s style rapping. vocoder vocal bits and fresh scratching.
the perfect choice for a remixer comes with miami bass heavyweight debonaire. who also produced classics with legendary groups maggotron and dynamix ii. taking the song to the next level of bass boom. turn up the bass!
night blind is richard fearless second release on drones white label series. the title track coalesced in the early hours of the morning as diffuse. turneresque lights glimmered across the thames and the container was pounded by a storm. unnerving and melancholic yet with a glimmer of light. this is fearless at his best. on the b side is cancan. with xaviers spiritual acid head. kenichi iwasa. on percussion duties. this is one for peak time body shaking. both tracks were recorded and mixed at the metal box by chris blakey and produced by richard fearless. stamped and numbered edition of 300 vinyl
the new zealand - detroit connection. electro empire presents the auckland based duo go nuclear and three new versions of their hit song techno world off their debut ep on bass agenda recordings.

bringing the remix here is detroit s filthiest (aka dj nasty) - a true detroit talent who has been keeping it real since the nineties. his name alone is a seal of quality.
there is an intricate sorrow to isorinne s new album. speechless malison. though broadly melodic. it feels exhausted rather than restrained. though rippling with a pulse. the rhythmic passages are sparse. their measured source a great distance away. building on last year s cassette. echoic memoir. speechless malison takes greater and emotive strides. however brittle the path.
a prison of predictions is the first lp from the ownlife label (excepting seld series. focused in pressing back gems from two decades ago) and also by the person behind it. leiras.
on it. the producer showcases a compendium featuring the characteristic sound of the platform. pushing ahead cyclical techno together with tracks that evoke the persistence of remembrance. echoing the preterit sound of sandwell district and renewed sound formulas from almost two decades of uk electronica. ambient brush strokes outline soundscapes surrounded by analogue sounds that share space with more direct and snappy songs. a scape on the frenetic side of electronica with an idm-leaning end closes the equation.
substantiating his versatility as a producer with the label’s previous 10 titles and undoubtedly confirmed on this record. leiras offers a consequent closing for the first stage of ownlife. which finishes on this point in order to look for new sound structures for the next transmissions.
this lp has been created in berlin during the last months using mixed recording techniques with the purpose of conceiving a narrative thread that gives coherence to the release. without doubt an inflection point in leiras’ discography.
those who physically suffer from dopamine depletion seek ways to experience maximized pleasure. hong kongs hyper everything enfant terrible. s.y. delivers a much darker complex ep than his two previous offerings under a new alias. a creative therapy of sorts apparently dealing with substance abuse and unstable mental conditions which luckily for everyone translates into more leftfield dancefloor gold with the brilliantly nondescript $ lfo and weirdo power drive of the title track on a side. followed on the flip by a surprisingly beautiful ode to concrete music. and a deeply haunting field recording piece that closes a perfectly round ep... or does it? sleeve artwork by matt damhave

the pieces were created as structured improvisations using a monophonic synth (primarily) along with a yamaha dx7 (borrowed from a friend) and possibly a guitar. recording was made on an older otari mx5050 1/2 8 track. mixing was done on a tascam m-50 console and a revox a77 1/4 machine. i recall the project happened in two bursts: i did half of it in september 85. then i finished up and edited the album together in december 85. i dont really recall making copies for anyone. i think i played it for a dozen people and that was it. just forgot about it. i remember jeff ament from pearl jam (green river back then) came by while i had it playing on my home stereo. he asked what it was and said he liked it. surprised me a little. with regard to overall aesthetic: i like the sound of machinery. but i enjoy the fragility of human error and human instinct. i like to put things into motion then climb aboard and drive. i can’t play an instrument (in the classical sense) for the life of me. so i’ve always just played things that are mostly choice rather than a convolution of style and technique. i guess you call that the brian eno school of rock.
