chreal01 is the debut project by scottish producer chaotic reality exploring a meditative side to techno. written over the course of several months spent living in new york as a resistance to the frenetic pace of a busy environment. chreal01 contains four tracks that repeat. oscillate and soundtrack a more centred existence. inspired by shinichi atobe. avalon emerson. newworldaquarium / ross154 & the 7th plain. each track in this self-released record is named after its sequence and operates on a slower tempo. focussing on melody and sound design. with aim to investigate the space between dub techno and early trance. track one opens with gentle dancing chords developing over 7 minutes. with subtle nods to echospace and black dogs otaku over a punchy kick and warm sub. reverb-licked stabs pass softly in and out the mix and ride over a homogenous chord range. highlighting points in the melody and meandering back into the ether. two has an introspective focus. rarely reaching more than two kicks per four bars. an arpeggiated lead centres the composition. slowly developing over a thick bassline. distant snaps and pops season the track and highlight the empty breathing space intentionally left in the production. on the b-side. three is characterised by heavily saturated kicks softly thumping under a bubbling melody. broken by echo-delayed stabs varying in form. filter depth and feedback timing. on the closing song four. chaoticreality develops and sculpts a stack of delayed chords creating a progressively elevating soundscape. the lead melody chords layer and discord changing thickness. shape and form throughout with pseudo kicks acting as a complimentary melody. here. cr plays with space to creating a hypnotic spacial production akin to digital justice or the orb. with the intention to take the listener to a transcendental state. chreal01 is housed in a popset sleeve & hand stickered
paper tree sneaked out into the world for a moment a few years back and then vanished. lee burridge loved the track so much that he continued to harass rebelski. sometimes standing outside his window in the flower bed. for weeks on end until he finally agreed to let lee release it on all day i dream. not content with a single track lee went back to rebelskis garden and tapped on the window repeatedly until he agreed to make some more beautiful tracks. obviously pestering producers in this manner bares fruit. the paper tree ep ranges from a beautiful solitary solo piano piece that wouldn t be amiss in a british period piece drama where someone dies unexpectedly leaving the survivors to deal with it. all the while maintaining their stiff upper lip. fly the kite made us want to go outside and do just that. so we did. it was epic. circles and squares joins paper tree as one of those dance floor moments best experienced with ones eyes closed. myriad is the sound of a young lady robots jewelry box (yes. we predict robots will be wearing jewelry in the future) that she(bot) pines to hear when she s all grown up and rusty. omoshiroi is. well. its just so damn pretty. good work rebelski. good work.

this is the third ep by dutch post-techno project monocorpse... his style is evident by now: minimal and dark... a sort of doom techno for the freaked-out dance floor... but this new ep also feels like a soundtrack... rather moody and haunting music which would fit perfect in thrillers and psychological dramas... despite all of this there are some real dance floor tracks on this ep... stuff monocorpse never delivered before in this way...

since the day nils first encountered the impressive studio of a family friend. he had envisioned to create one of his own at such a large scale. fast forward to the present day and nils is now the proud host of saal 3. part of the historical 1950s east german funkhaus building beside the river spree. it is here where he has spent most of his time deconstructing and reconstructing the entire space from the cabling and electricity to the woodwork. before moving on to the finer elements. building a pipe organ and creating a mixing desk all from scratch with the help of his friends. this is somewhere music can be nurtured and not neglected. and where he can somewhat fulfil his pursuit of presenting music to the world as close to his imagination as possible.

the empire line present six cyclonic episodes for confined spaces on their debut album. rave. comprised of posh isolation s christian stadgaard (damien dubrovnik. vanity productions). jonas ronnberg (varg). and with isak hansen (iron sight) on tantrums. the trio s marauding live shows have been translated into a slippery set of pummelling techno works. watermarked with florid noise. rave is a celebration of contemporary rave culture. focused on the everlasting and transcendent as the night slips out past the day. with living-for-the-weekend hedonism irretrievably converted into a manicured. violent cliche. building new worlds and forging new modes of intimacy takes an exceptional sincerity. naming some of the crews closest to the empire line in the album s titles. their spaces are examples of just how rave culture persists as a transgressive stronghold in people s lives. ranging from k-hole anthems to jacking. close-range sessions. rave still bears the traces of the group s experimental background. ensuring the tension is kept up through the catharsis.

vinyl with blue marble effects in translucent inner sleeve. and includes cd. molecule returns with a new odyssey both physical and musical. following the success of 60°43 nord. his concept debut played. recorded and mixed on a fishing boat during a 34-day journey in the atlantic ocean. the french producer decided this time to take the process further up north and embarked on a voyage to greenland. isolated for five weeks in the small inuit village of tiniteqilaaq. romain delahaye used his survival electrokit to find new sounds in the fjords. the icefields and the hostile yet dazzling landscapes surrounding him. entirely recorded and mixed in this remoted place. the tracks of -22.7°c range from contemplative ambient atmospheres to more upbeat techno blizzards and accurately translate this epic self-reflective adventure across a land of contrast. its abyssal silences. its immaculate glaciers and its blinding whiteness. with ten previously unheard tracks and very enthusiastic early feedbacks from medias internationally. -22.7°c is set to confirm molecules status as a one-of-a-kind producer in todays electro scene.
manni dee might be best known for his upfront techno tackle on perc trax and the like. but he s also been quietly building up a separate identity as nuances. and it s a world away from his dancefloor output. following on from some choice album appearances on bastakiya tapes. it s up to tabernacle to give the project its first outing on wax. while tabernacle can have some range in their sound. this finds the label plunging wholeheartedly into ambient climes. heavily processed textures and delicate chimes all feed into a truly evocative atmosphere loaded with significance. ignore the familiar name behind the music - this is an album deserving attention all on its own.
swiss artist and veteran producer ripperton contacted the esp institute out of the blue mid-2017 to share a gorgeous mix of self-produced material. a collection of pieces made without any agenda outside of representing the self. not geared toward the dancefloor or a specific environment but simply a bi-product of introspective exploration. we were floored. the mix was on constant repeat in our world for weeks. then was subsequently pulled apart into separate titles to form this beautiful double lp. ripperton’s debut with the label. the title sight seeing speaks of someone stepping outside their current reality to look in the mirror. as if to ground themselves and keep sight of who they are in a world of extreme highs and lows. inspired greatly by expansive landscapes and views from airplane windows (imagine your commute flying over the alps every weekend). ripperton describes this collection as postcards to himself. messages from his subconscious recorded on tape (both conceptually and literally). melancholy soundtracks to the mondays that follow weekend journeys. while musical genres tend to cycle through bandwagon moments. the esp institute strives to operate independently of these. and while sight seeing is undoubtably an ambient album. we’re simply proud to revel in the chance moment where an esteemed artist such as ripperton spreads his wings in a beautifully unexpected mode of expression.
following up drawn with shadow pens on spectrum spools. belgian sound artist yves de mey returns with bleak comfort . his third solo full-length. geared towards serving up an intense musical experience. the album deconstructs regular club music to highlight some of its key elements in a transformative way. an album about absence. malfunction and disorientation. bleak comfort is equally packed with floor-functional material and left-of-centre electronics. by turn sizzling and spherical. convulsive and atmospheric. yves de mey ushers his listener in a hypnotic kaleidoscope of sounds. providing a fascinating picture of his ever dynamic grammar at variable scales and tempos.

ant orange’s third 12″. for karaoke kalk forms something resembling a trilogy for the label. “right there” is built on a familiar rhodes-n-bass aesthetic. combining the lo-fi jazz of 2017’s “arkupe” with the soulful vocal motifs of 2015’s “s/t”. while introducing more electronic ingredients and taking an increasingly exploratory approach to rhythm and composition. the opening title track clocks in at over 8 minutes. growing slowly from soft tickled keys to a full-bodied groove circled by airy synths and fragmented rnb vocals. “drunk in the trunk” then shifts down a gear. looping another vocal cut over a lazy. stripped-back wahwah vibe. side a closes with experimental jazz skit “let that sink in”. its jerky tempo and flashes of light reminiscent of a late-night subway ride. the b-side takes a more contemplative tone. with the meditative arpeggios and sparse drums of “comfort zone” leading into the dusky west coast stroll of “muscle beach”. before “rudis goes offline” picks up the tempo for a last shimmering dance. the closing track “a frozen lake” sounds just like it sounds – chilled by name and by nature.

a modular synthesiser and an urge to find interesting tones. textures and timbres... ekke s second lp klangfarbenmodular is due to bevreleased by detroit underground . it is electronic music with compositions that deal with abstract textures. glitchy beats. nostalgic synth melodies. and sound design. like the title of the album suggests. one of the main interests for ekke has been finding different interesting tone-colours. textures and timbres. second very important inspiration for ekke while composing this material was his instrument – modular synthesiser. he has been studying free improvisation and composition on that instrument for years and the instrument has become like a good friend and music teacher for him. the album was composed and recorded during 2015-2017. most of the material has been recorded as studio jam sessions. all the pieces have then gone through many reincarnations. although most of the material comes from machines. there is a track where all the sounds are field recordings registered in tallinn. estonia. which is a current home for ekke .

the people at antinote are always excited to introduce new names to its roster and sign libra. its latest addition. makes no exception to the rule. released under the moniker sign libra. closer to the equator is the work of latvian artist and composer agata melnikova. composed for a contemporary ballet at latvian national opera in riga. the music on this record strongly relies on melnikovas appreciation of bbc-produced nature documentaries. projecting the life of each creature that inhabits the british tv-program into her very personal and highly synthetized world. sign libra lends these microscopic beings her own voice. each song works like a musical tableau in which the main protagonists plants and animals come on stage to play their part in a ballet carefully choreographed by the latvian artist.
hobor is part of many groups and formations himself. such as songs for pneumonia or cointel allstars and the event-series fiktion+masse. his solo project is mainly known for extended dj-sets on various ambient-floors in leipzig and his live-sets - which could be described as cautious investigations into micro-sounds - are mainly based on his work with modular synthesizers. his debut-album on ph17 is a minimalistic. conceptual work that focuses on sound as much as on the way electronic music usually plays. all tracks consist of almost independent layers of sound that behave like improvising musicians. they seem to play together but by focusing on one of them you soon realise they’re actually stoically sticking to there own rhythm and repetition and as the tracks play on these layers of sound start to form ever different constellations. no wonder hobor says he took inspiration from improvising bands like the necks. his album is as fascinating and hypnotizing as one of their live-jams. “constellations is released on 50 limited tapes.
