when harold boue aka abstraxion invited fantastic man into his studio after playing together the night before he didnt knew he was planting the seed for a new project. as he recalls. it was a day of intense sun in marseille with not enough sleep. but the result was so great that it inspired harold to work on new tracks around the idea of creating music to reflect his city: a bit rough. but luminous and influenced by elements of mediterranean. african and northern european cultures. this has translated into a heavily percussive sound. in which tribal disco grooves invoke the spirits of voodoo-techno. three cuts driven by warmly distorted rhythms. bursts of primitive drums. rubbery synths and uplifting chants that overall feel like the first sunrays after an excursion through a dark cave: both blinding and blissful. the projects name is a tribute to the astrological sign of harolds son. who was born at the same time as the music on the ep. it was the definitive signal he needed to convince himself it was the right time to start something new and different. and an event that for sure helps understanding the vibes that this music transmits: as pure. fresh and powerful as only a new beginning can be.

this mirror-like musical progression starts with lots of dynamics and harmonies which then continue with a more sonically tranquil section while heading towards a dynamic ending. thus completing the symmetry and binding both parts in a seamless album.
zuli’s new offering trigger finger is a game of shadowy atmospheres and unquiet spirits. it functions as a spacial and temporal compactor. using sampling and field recordings to reconstruct reality’s dissonance. while at the same time reverse its own introspective character into bass weight and outworked tension. a kind of extremization of zuli’s own roots as a beatmaker for the cairo rap scene. tinged with the clandestine and delirious urbanism of grime and jungle. and fronted by the necessity to face its own dark side. but the dark and crusty sonic palette does not limit the possibility for the tracks to display various layers of emotional content.

the ep -a form of travel unknown to humans- is chasing us. guiding and forcing a way simultaneously. the sound is harsh but has an immaculate precision to it –void of air- compelling the listener toward a light. seducing us to tear through the night. we enter with „s.m.o.d. – sticks- a deep and magnetic sound opening up slowly. starting to breathe and to merge into -s.m.o.d. – cell culture- which gives a much more metallic flavour but never the less beat driven – fast and strident- maybe even hasty. pushing to skip a beat of the heart. to finish off with -s.m.o.d – pulse- carrying an unsettling almost disturbing quality. formulating a mechanical sound alienated from the human experience. the ep creates a seductive space outside our comfort zone. inviting to explore a space and travel unknown to humans. gimme more.

magdalena s -elementum ep- is her first full ep on diynamic music. the 3-tracker marks the beginning of a busy summer season for her. the opening track -mountains of es cubells- pays tribute to ibiza s after party culture – which occurs in private houses that open when the clubs close. out in the warm air and sunlight. and a very intimate atmosphere. the protagonist s verdict -i think tonight i see ibiza like it was 25 years ago- sums it up perfectly. -nautilus- is a dreamy melodic house cut. ethereally swerving through a sea of hypnotic percussions and brassy synth elements.
closing off the record is -radialis-. a brooding and gloomily minimalistic techno tune.
dysnomia reminiscent of the infamous quote there are four lights. the release kicks off with an homage to the will of resistance. from captain picard to orwell may the (referential) chain of command is not as evident as h4ls sci-fi passion. the title tracks power structure couldnt be wielded more efficiently: while stomping kick drums and subtle hi-hats build up a foreplay full of suspense. the witty melody with its warped and distorted sounds grants four lights the perfect authority. following a similar approach. fesch with its bouncy and mantra-like groove. in which synths playing a ping-pong game. completes the swinging a-side. deepa & biri. the israeli dj and producer duo from tel aviv. start the flip side with their interpretation of four lights. by using breaks and greater attention for details. the remix not only redirects the originals energy into more hypnotic realms. deepa & biri extract the melodys keys in order to create a moody and dense version. resonating from two decades of warehouse reverberation experience. disc 2 dysnomia finishes the release with an idm-drenched workout. full of uk bass knowledge. unpolished electro grooves. and swirling synth poetry. absolute freedom means absolute lawlessness.

cleveland is forever in search of the brown note. this is his second offering for the esp institute. side a’s tusk is a beautiful paradox—rhythm programs that churn like the inner workings of a grandfather clock. unmistakably mechanical. yet fashioned through muted analogue instrumentation that paints a deceptively organic picture. the crystallized jangle of fm synth voices toy with the softened drum patterns and vibrant animal-like chord gestures over nearly seven minutes of splendor. on side b. aku digs further into mysticism. manifesting digital jungle themes. cleverly abstracted through erratic bleeps. distant tribal drums. atonal flutters and synthetic bird calls. the cinematic quality of clevelands production shines through both tracks. but its aku that sweeps us from reality to embark on a moonlit expedition in search long lost treasures. proving cleveland a virtuoso skilled in building complex narratives with sound. these two songs will modulate your frequencies.
