this record won the 1964 french prize grand prix du disque. this is an absolutely amazing recording, done in one non stop only time in simone signorets own parisian flat. simone signoret, cult french actor, reads la voix humaine by jean cocteau. according to jacques canetti himself, this performance was one of the very best and most intense he ever recorded. even if you dont understand french, you will feel simone signorets incredible poignancy.

fallow presents his debut ep on the freshly established chow down label 6 typically epic and emotive tracks from the semi-infamous manchester-based dj & producer. on side a fallow serves up 3 gigantic grime instrumentals with all the bravado, theatrics and outrageous samples the genre has to offer. the tracks are as cinematic as they are energetic, weaving pulse sounds, choirs and dreamy sino samples into breakneck dance-floor gear to great effect. on the flip fallow adopts his dj chalice moniker to explore his softer side. still bursting with colour and melody, the tracks are as indebted to sunny dancehall records as they are a raw uk sound. peppering carefree mallets and flutes with angelic chipmunk vocals, chalice still captures the producers unique ear for bold melodies and vivid sounds.

in the ocean is closed the “modern composition super group” (the wire) zeitkratzer and the performance collective she she pop observe each other across the limits of their own categories. they look in fascination at their “exotic“ colleagues. outside eyes and ears are interested in different things, ask the right wrong questions, misunderstand the agreements and breach basic laws.
she she pop and zeitkratzer play a concert: secret, order and ocean. they celebrate music and play per se.

ivory puzzle – dj krust a straight up banger from dj krusts -cloaking- bass era. like many tracks from the time, it s working simplicity was it s defining factor. a very hooky arpeggiated intro and breakdown and an unrelenting drum and bass workout, the track steps up a gear getting more intense every sixteen bars taking the dance floor on the musical equivalent of a nitro fuelled sprint down a drag strip.
flip it – dj krust a futuristic roller with sampled funk breakbeats reminiscent of -true stories- and -soul in motion-. like many of the krust and full cycle releases this was a tune screaming to be mixed with others, it s unexpected drum edits and fx popping in and out making it impossible to tell when one tune ended and another began. the resonating b-line always sounded huge on a rig and paved the way for a myriad of future generations of bass ideas. quite a rare tune, only krust, die and bryan g had this on dubplate.
