born in poland and now operating out of the ever-effervescent london. the adoptive city where she’s learnt the ropes of music production and djing. anii – real name ania iwinska – has lived many lives in one. yet if one thing’s remained a constant over the years. no matter the harshness of the obstacles life threw at her. it’s indeed a deep and inextinguishable love for music. be it behind the mixing desk at wired studios or in her own shoreditch workroom. the key place where she’s kept honing her skills with unfazed diligence. up to the point of making it her actual second home. ań......ii lands her debut transmission on kompakt and surely not the last. named after the polish word for ‘roots’. ‘korzenie’ finds ania threading her way in between subtle deep-house and techno folds. delving into the essential strength of her past and present to carve out an hypnotic maelstrom of traditional polish music strings. tribal percussions and elegiac melodies. coupling eerie ostinatos with stealthy bass moves. it’s an ode to the magnitude of memory and power of resilience that reels out. blurring the line between late night club environment and further spacious. moony soundscapes.
-mind against take the next step in their artistic development. discovering the techno side of things is a fresh breeze for their oeuvre and perfectly fits into the label’s policy… may the force be with you! - kristian

over his twenty year the hacker has traversed a spread of styles. from frosted electro to raging techno slammers. -midnight bliss- shows another side of this multitalented artist. warmth flows from the title piece. clean rhythm patterns are spiked by synthlines as liquid melodies are swirled into a carefree cocktail that simply radiates. -heavy duty disco- takes over the flip and runs headlong into speakers. the hacker builds a track of generous proportions. textured keys weave through columns of toms and snapping beats before bruising basslines descend for a late night encounter of formidable intent. without doubt. a future classic from a classic creator.
man power his raw electronic sound. organic flourishes and diverse selection make him a perfect match for dgtl. both on stage as well as on the imprint. next to releasing a steady flow of records on established labels like esp institute. optimo trax. correspondant and hivern discs. man power is running his own shop as well: me me me. this gives him an outlet to release music by both friends and himself. for his release on dgtl records he created a three-track ep called apologue ep. that showcases just two of different sides of his multi-faceted musical scope. the a-side features two firm. acid influenced tracks. the first of these two. the duelist. is an emotive house record. with a soundscape of piano melodies. synths and syncopated percussion laid on top of an acid bassline. el mago del tiempo features heavy hitting kicks combined with a sharp synth pattern. it has a long build up that keeps evolving throughout the entire composition. halfway through. the track breaks in to a raw and fierce rhythm accompanied by yearning. drawn-out synth pads. on the flipside. put your hands on the car (and get ready to die) brings back memories of a long gone past with nods to balearic pop. ebm. and the soundtrack work of stewart copeland. james horner. and jan hammer. this multi layered production has a warm and analogue sounding feel to it that rounds off a 3 dimensional release.

with iyewaye. the first solo-ep after the release of his fifth album i am ok last year. oliver koletzki shows himself in a new. but not altogether unfamiliar light: since his breakthrough in 2005 with der mückenschwarm koletzki hasnt sounded this hard. gone is the pop-angle. replaced by a dark sound-aesthetic and raw energy. but even here. in the techno realm. oliver koletzki demonstrates his inimitable sense for melody: thus. the gloomy and driving framework of iyewaye is lit up by a crystal-clear synth-sequence. similarly. ipuza. which hypnotizes by way of reduction and repetition. is funky in its core thanks to a rolling tribal groove. functional. but with heart and soul.

fort romeaus second outing for running back is another exercise in dance floor synthesis. starting where its predecessor saku left us with the green shimmer of a fairlight. emulators you might have guessed it greets us with the grey realism of an e-mu ii. purchased first by none other than stevie wonder. immortalised in ferris buellers ode to absenteeism and the original loon sampler. there is nothing this machine cannot do for you the same goes for fort romeau. his disco-informed. trance-induced tracks that usually end on a high note. are elevated by ambient soundscapes that end with a bang and sugarcoat your warm-up slots. while bird-heavy bonus beats that stand up on their own or help you out in the mix. nice like a stick of liquo-rice.
“eagles & butterflies has taken storm in electronic wonderland - boiler room arpeggiator was originally titled 14 minutes of arps and its exactly that. its one of the simplest tracks iv ever made with probably only 8 layers that your weaves in and out the whole way through. really love the subtleness of this track where at the same time it is also a beast! oyeme is maybe the e&b sound people are familiar with. big marimba melodies. fat sub and rolling hats with a big break. love this one prophet was originally just an experiment when i purchased a prophet 6. its a little crazy and pretty full on. love the funky bass in the one from the sh 101. all the parts for this where recorded in a few takes live and two whole track was made in 2 hours!
hamburg’s fine impro-trio treibgut blesses us with a wonderful ep this summer. after a brief hiatus the three boys have refined their trademark sound even more - sitting confidently somewhere between techno. house and melodic electronica. while treibgut’s shows normally are almost ethereal snapshots due to their improvisational nature. we were able to convince them to hold down two of their finest results on tape. the outcome is a two-track ep - complemented by spot-on reinterpretations from two early supporters of our label: iorie and the duo peng peng. one remix convinces with a straight-forward club approach while the b-side is a bit more mellow and relaxed.
