im november 2021, kurz vor dem zweiten lockdown, wurden guillaume und louis von der nacht-crew in leuven eingeladen, ihr erstes gemeinsames dj-set seit beginn der pandemie zu spielen. zu dieser zeit hatte die nacht-crew gerade die erste physische veröffentlichung auf ihrem brandneuen imprint erhalten, und das team war begierig darauf, die platte in die welt hinauszutragen. für die zweite veröffentlichung war jedoch alles möglich. vor der show, irgendwo zwischen dem obligatorischen nasenabstrich und dem dritten drink, keimte die idee einer ungewöhnlichen zusammenarbeit auf.

2020 repress - a new master piece is coming on macadam mambo, presenting two young guys from the « lyon » scene where the label is based, called the pilotwings. they were instantly noticed last year with their smashing first ep « agorespace » released on the young bfdm imprint, creating the buzz with strong break tracks in a super fresh spirit. this time they’ve let all their great inspiration take over, to deliver a strong piece of « chicago » oriented house with tribal and japanese influences, the 707 is never too far, and a sexy male voice brings you into the moist backroom of this club named « boxboys ». essential must have !

any disco dj worth their weight in vinyl knows the name donnell pitman, and until now this has been mostly due to his highly sought after work of the late 70s and early 80s. renewed interest in donnell has reached critical peak over the past few years, fueled by red greg’s feature of donnell’s seminal “love explosion” on joey negro’s under the influence vinyl compilation series and chicago’s numero group putting out long forgotten, unreleased boogie bangers “burning up” and “taste of honey” in 2015.
it was this refreshed enthusiasm that caught the attention of producer kumar mcmillian of chicago-based disco ensemble wings of sunshine. kumar’s group was looking for another vocal collaborator following their 7” debut release on star creature records. a casual introduction led to an informal studio session between the two culminating in a modern disco masterpiece.

for this inaugural release the french label bfdm introduces two young promising producers aka the pilotwings. agorespace is an excursion, a trip where dark and killer drums meet with some soft melodies and primitive percussion. trance beats is a wonky house track made up of hip-hop/jungle breaks and synthetic animal sounds, a powerful combination of tribal rhythm and creepy synths. on the same side comes cavernes magiques, a modern electronic tune where raw 707 jams gives way to trippy dance pads, 90s influences. on the other side a strong techno track contrasted with bright synths called cours-la-ville, a dark and long exploration.

debut release on star creature from the newly formed chicago modern funk band featuring vocals from steve dolfin. buckle up and feel the bass-tastic “you got me” on the a-side, flipped by “magic of the funk-, a midtempo “treacherous and tasty” jam on the b-side

one year has passed since the pilotwings’ first output « agorespace ». expectations went further in 2015 as they contributed to the rave-ish j-zbel project. the pair is now back on bfdm with another ode to rurality and old-fashioned analogue. including 4 tracks, « molitor 71 » goes deeper into retrofuturist nostalgia and bucolic mood. a1 31 septembre (on va tout niker) introduces full-on panflute melodies and uplifting korg exotica. as the trancy chicago dream fades out, a2 les invasions babar unveils its weird combo of electro beats and massive patrick cowley-esque synths. unplanned bass moves lead this jam while an undertaking voice calls for no less than « the greatest experience of your life ». things settle down on the nocturnal b1 congo libre. focus on breakbeats and sophisticated rhythms evokes trance beats, while sparkling synths emerge from everywhere. the ep ends up with a floating ambient piece called buruganda ouverture and designed for the listener to rediscover the meaning of his existence. molitor will give you faith in humanity and flutes again.

the a side holds monsoons wings of the dawn (anglo hindi extension) a huge cosmic play and rare as you like on original 12. this edit is a re eqd combination of the english language and hindi versions clocking in at over 10 minutes for extended slo mo dancefloor trip outs. a huge balearic classic by chilly is on the b side and now far more playable for any dancefloor as theres no nasty hoe down chorus to spoil the ride
