jovonn returns to his body ndeep label to release the album timeless, his first since blaque house released on code red back in 2009. with releases on such labels as clone, apollonia and dogmatik the last few years, jovonn set up his body ndeep label in 2017 to release tracks from himself and other like-minded producers. the album focusses on the deeper side of house and jovonns trademark new jersey house sound, with contributions by patrick mangan (violin) on hesperia soul and cassioware on turnin me out.

hq art with gatefold+graphic novel label project from russian dj and rhythm composer julia govor. jujuka is a multidisciplinary art project and record label that involves rhythm composer and dj julia govor and london-based illustration duo le.blue. the project is about music, short narratives, true stories, comics and illustration, where the artists behind the project want to go beyond what the conventional record label offers. every piece will be unique, told through music and stories composed and written by julia, accompanied by artwork and comics illustrated by le.blue.

baiano & os novos caetanos was a band formed by prolific and multi-talented brazilian comedians chico anysio and arnaud rodrigues. satirising brazils tropicalia movement in the 1970s, the duo took a friendly crack at the likes of caetano veloso and psychedelic rockers novos baianos, with their righteous tropicalista alter-egos ‘baiano and ‘paulinho boca de profeta poetically denouncing the dictatorship while simultaneously mocking those who took themselves too seriously. jazz funk legends azymuth play backing band with keyboard maestro jose roberto bertrami also responsible for the arrangements on the album. azymuths free and funky psych sounds combine with accordion, harmonica, brass and plenty of rural brazilian rhythms, for a hugely varied album drawing on mpb, funk and soulful samba rock. the album also features orlandivo who co-wrote many of the songs, and renowned multi-instrumentalist and producer durval ferreira.

lost in time has laid down some killer 12-s to date from the likes of ralph lawson and tuccillo, and now they welcome london-based scene staple alex arnout to the label with an on-point ep of explorative house music variations. -no borders- features long time us house veteran jovonn, and the pair whip up a tracky tech house roller with serious percussive pressure and a subtle lick of dub in the mix. -downtown 500- is a rough and tough, bashy house jam with a fresh drum palette, and by contrast -riddim- brings a straight up deep house vibe with classic organ licks aplenty, that almost sound like they should be the handiwork of jovonn as well. -jam the dance- finishes the ep off with a twitchy house cut peppered with vocal slices.

at some moment last year novo mundo (aka niagara) made itself manifest. it was pretty simple, like most necessities are. here is tenda, the result. dezembro is but one idea, never ashamed of its simplicity, straightforward techno: its all about the basics of motion. leviathan is circular, a slow burn, until the kick and the hi-hat surprise you: insane in the membrain. the record ends with arsenale, a very slow motion, no drums, the calm after the storm. limited edition of 250 12inch vinyl copies. a-side 45rpm, b-side 33rpm

bliq continues its quest to mine the deepest shades of techno with this release from iakovos, who had previously appeared on the label as lowjac and in the formidable duo deemonlover. this is sharply focused mind music layered with subtle detail and rich textures perfectly honed for hazy hours at the far reaches of the party. -singers- melds hypnotic pads with gossamer-light threads of breakbeat and warm synth pulses, while -evil flower- pushes a tougher rhythmic agenda without losing the ethereal atmosphere. -adidas people- rides on a surging kick drum pattern, but leaves ample room for a distant drone, and then -hackney tower- heads into edgier territory with all manner of obtuse angles and unnerving sound effects pivoting around the insistent drum core of the track.

novoline makes music with equipment that was manufactured in 1988 and 1989, controlled via midi by two atari sts. as a sequencer he is using an algorithmic composition program that is 25 years old. with this program he creates sequences that he modulates live by shifting numbers and settings while recording. the process is improvised and contains a good portion of randomly generated melodies and drums, carefully selected and combined by novoline. the result sounds a little like something between a dark 80’s sci-fi soundtrack and an endless marching new beat extended version.
