iiwii launches its long awaited new limited edition 10 series called the >gallery series<. this series will focus more on downbeat, leftfield and house genres. first up is a four tracker from dante and dhula, two members from iiwii recording group cobblestone jazz. the first track from this release, a modern electronic dub excursion, >why do the wicked ones rule?< has already found its way into the charts of straight no chaser courtesy of gilles peterson, and gotten play on his worldwide radio show on bbc !!

reciting from dante’s eponymous poem, sanna mun experiments with her vocals in the dub-influenced single “inferno”. the record features a driving remix from french favorite benales and an enigmatic reinterpretation by rising japanese artist toru katsuta.

vera grace marks the first lp on deestricted s imprint with “infernvm”. dark, raw and rumbling sounds carve the visceral discent into the nine circles of dante s inferno, exploring the conditions of the soul in absence of light. the double vinyl release includes a download code.

almost a millennium ago, the italian poet, dante alighieri offered the indelible axiom: “heat cannot be separated from fire, or beauty from the eternal.” in the centuries since, almost every strain of logic has been upended, save for the inextricable connection tethering beauty and timelessness. anenon’s tongue is a beautiful album. that’s an adjective whose meaning has practically been obliterated by hallmark prose and hyperbolic idiocy. but occasionally, a work of art digs deep enough to excavate the underlying meaning that existed in antiquity and figures to persist until we’re soil and dust. this is beauty materialized through the abstract articulation of love, loss, fear, addiction, confidence, longing, hope, and sadness. at its best, the infinite array of human emotions swirled and distilled into sound. sound becomes melody, harmony, and rhythm. the medium happens to be music, but it could really be anything. pure expression. tools mean nothing more and nothing less than palette and color.

cocytus, meaning -the river of wailing“, is a river in the underworld in greek mythology. it flows into the river acheron, across which is the underworld, the mythological abode of the dead. dante describes cocytus in inferno as being the home of traitors and those who committed acts of complex fraud. the river of wailing is divided into four arms: antenora, after antenor from the iliad, traitors to country. judecca, after judas iscariot, traitors to masters and benefactors. caina, after the biblical cain, traitors to blood relatives. ptolomea, after ptolemy, governor of jericho, who murdered his guests (1 maccabees), traitors to guests. based on these assumptions cot labelhead hours crafted three pensive tracks, one of which was reinterpreted by brian sanhaji.

while producing the viscera trilogy, fango has tried to understand something about himself. in order to do this, he had to enter into his own body, just like dante entered hell, studying and analysing himself from the inside, diving through organs, guts and grey matter. did it work? yes and no, depending how you look at it. for sure, it helped him in the creation of 3 devastating and introspective eps, but a lot of questions are still unsolved. viscera part 3 is the last leg of a journey that disrupted your 2016 and marks the beginning of a new absurd phase for fango, but this is another story. for the time being we leave you with amnios, metacarpo and metulla. this is viscera 3/3.

likely ep is tims first release on tiefschwarzs souvenir label. lead track alike sounds like ivan smagghe jamming with richie hawtin in a warehouse rave in london, skirting a line between futuristic tech house and discerning electro. a live bassline holds down the groove as a trickling bleepy melody develops throughout the track. as more and more layers of elaborate sonic trickery are laid down, a driving snare jacks out the groove further before a series of effects laden breakdowns tighten the tension further and further. cowbells take the second phase of the track ever taughter before the groove emerges into a stabbing hook and pulsating synth noises that drive the dancefloor into blissed out oblivion. subtle vocals tease the ears in the background of the final strung out breakdown, never quite dominating the tune before the jacking bass and kick drop back in. ‘unlike shares a similar vibe for mixing live instruments with plug in madness. live sounding bassline and guitar lines open the track and roll out the groove before the main synth hook takes over. as the track rolls in and out of its breakdowns it lurches between reverb heavy, bleepy chaos and futuristic rhythms. think depeche mode writing an experimental instrumental on the moon in 2012 and youre halfway there. like many french artists these days tim lives and works in london and also collaborates with fellow frenchies ivan smagghe and dante eprom. he first caught the attention of vinyl sleuths with his excellent remix of db (8)s future now in 2004 and now runs his own label marketing music as well as pushing the boundaries of spacey electro flavoured tech house with his own solo material.
