slam and obscure shape & shdw step up for the second wave of radio slave ‘grindhouse’ remixes on rekids this february. one of techno’s most iconic records, ‘grindhouse’ first appeared on radio slave’s ‘no sleep’ series before spawning multiple remixes from dubfire, danton eeprom, terence fixmer and nic fanciulli. kick-started by len faki, last year saw the announcement of a series of remixes with more to come from vatican shadow, markus suckut, lady starlight and special request. complete with relentless kicks, sinister drones and industrial elements, part two is not for the faint-hearted. starting with slam, the soma bosses keep things dark, with rattling top lines and echoing effects resulting in a truly decadent techno floor destroyer. following a remix of radio slave’s ‘vision’ in 2016, obscure shape & shdw’s abilities are held in high regard by the rekids owner and their rework of ‘grindhouse’ reinforces why. complete with a rumbling lowend, metallic melodies and soaring synths, the from another mind founders continue to establish themselves as two of techno’s most exciting names.

end of dayz 009 is by the mysterious 30drop. his works are described by himself as detroit techno inspired music mixed with repetitive european techno. in this release -on the next day ep- we find on a side the terror history called -they saw it again- and the jeroen search remix that is a very danceable rhythmic techno with some cosmic stuff. the b side is for -raw- where we can listen to some space bells. here is the remix by an old friend of this label, p.e.a.r.l., bringing the track into a darker place.

way back in 1996, at the height of the widely acknowledged golden period for electronic music, d-saw a.k.a andré winter released a true classic on hamburgs highly influential superstition label. track 10:30 stood the test of time, becoming widely regarded as a key moment in european techno music history, despite its modest impact at the time. now, 20 years later, andré revisits the source material courtesy of some killer remixes on oliver huntemanns senso imprint. hamburg’s own h.o.s.h. (holger behn) delivers an epic twist to the cut, widening out the spaces and adding his own techy signature to the original. re.you offer up another flavour altogether, maintaining the iconic synth pulse of the source but introducing an infectious, driving groove. dubspeeka throw a bit more grit in into proceedings with a tough, machine funk mix, while andre winter himself reworks his classic into a slow burning groover that effortlessly showcases the elements that make this track so timeless.

nolan returns to connaisseur this month with renowned actor idris elba on vocals for *children of house*, of norway on remix duty. *children of house* is nolans second release with the german imprint connaisseur following his *ghetto bicep* ep that saw big support from the likes of wolf + lamb, droog & maceo plex back in 2012. the brighton based producer re-joins an impressive roster of artists such as kollektiv turnstrasse, ripperton, afrilounge and chymera with this release. blurring the lines between disco and house nolans productions have previously found homes at notable labels such as off recordings, get physical, nervous records and audiojacks imprint, gruuv.

nice price deal !!! this 12inch contains some true oddities. frak is not known for doing remixes but here is one of the few that exists. a nice acid remix of dave id - soul reprise. also they did a special track to finish off the 2013 tours and heres the splendid studio version of phase.

larry levan classic that was played in its entirety at the closing of paradise garage - september 1987. larry played both parts for over 20 minutes, yet it was never officially released at the time. finally saw the light of day in 2007 this is an official repress using the original artwork on king street sounds sub label nite grooves. fully re mastered for 2014!

gacha is a young artist originally from georgia, now operating in berlin, this second ep for apollo records is an excellent six tracker that fits the apollo chillout manifesto perfectly. his music is a cinematic, glacial mix of beautiful melodies, treated guitars and tender drum programming, and two tracks on this release see him working in tandem with natalie beridze who adds her ethereal vocals for standout tracks *saysea* and *atlas*. elsewhere on the ep gacha continues the form of his last ep, working his influences from classic electronica to garage into his trademark deep and atmospheric sound.

next up on deep vibes is the probably last but definitely not least ibiza anthem of the year. we kept it in the shelves for a bit, had it played out by dj sneak, tobi neumann and sebo k and even saw laurent garnier posting a picture of a promo cd with el recorrido on facebook in desperate search of the person who gave it to him.

the fiakun label teams up with the highly talented piek, who together with samuel fitch & mianyo delivers some superb disco infected house in the shape of hemingway. fiakuns last release saw the spanish label drop the excellent voodoo by mexican producer cesar coronado, a record which caught the attention of djs such as huxley, maceo plex & ralph lawson.

fresh off the back of an enormous hypercolour ep that saw the house and bass movements come together in sheer awe and appreciation, tom demac returns with the little bits that matter ep on pets recordings

paper recordings continue their journey back to plastic with another vinyl release once again proving why they remain one of uks best loved labels. jamie l is a mysterious figure of undisclosed origin and history who fits in to the moodymann / theo parrish mold of heavy future disco, which his new production >(what we saw) in the burg< nails. it is a heavy leftfield groove laid over broken house beats with a filtered bass, samples and leftfield vibe. the detroit pad creeps up to the break and filters in and out as the track works its way through for locked down dance floor business. next up, havana candy breaks out the analogue and takes things deeper and techier. with a rolling bass and tweaking acid line, it cuts to a rhodes before filtering down and riding back to the heads down groove. cottam steps up for paper for the first time and demonstrates what all the fuss is about with a very special mix. clocking in at 9.41 it is deep, tough soulful house that crosses the 4/4 divide from techno to disco and deep house to soul.

jazzanova lands on wurst! early dj support comes from soul clap, radio slave, dimitri from paris, ewan pearson, sebo k, rob mello and slow hands. weve done the unthinkable, scored the unimaginable, and wrangled none other than jazzanova (!) for an über-limited one-sided vinyl-only release. while >i can see< feat ben westbeech came out a few years back, filippo moscatellos most excellent disco version never saw the light of day - until now, of course. doesnt much more sunshine-filled and soul-drenched than this stellar take on the esteemed berlin collectives original, and we are both honored and humbled to get to work with both jazzanova and their label sonar kollektiv, and of course filippo himself, on this very special release. filippo moscatello started to produce music in 1994 under the dj naughty moniker, and has since gone on to work with labels like gigolo, eskimo, and moodmusic to name but a few, releasing the artist albums disco volante (gigolo) and pagliaccio (moodmusic), as well as the acclaimed compilation, one naughty night in berlin (eskimo). in addition to his production work, filippo maintains a club residency at cookies in berlin called luv dancin where hes played along special guests like moodymann, jerome sydenham, ata, bottin and loud e.
