known for releases on labels like overall music, innercircle and frole records, back to basics regular barnsley begins 2018 by returning to his vessel records imprint with big move ep . consisting of two low-slung originals, the release also includes remixes from bass culture founder d julz and cabinet records bosses cabdrivers. a compelling groove lays the foundation of time whilst quivering synths operate throughout, leading into d julz s remix that twists the original into a moody roller with tightly executed 808s at its core. forgiveness starts with clanking percussion as melodies add to the heightening atmosphere, while the cabdrivers remix takes the key elements of the original and plays with the harmonies to make them coarser.

for its third release, sensoramic turns to new york minimalist and renowned modular artist, kamran sadeghi. fresh from releasing on key techno imprints meander, brouqade, fasten musique and cocoon, he finishes a strong year with an exceptional three tracker. lead track undone suspends time for a twelve minute lesson in modular hypnotism, twisting its way through various chapters and subtle, naggingly hooky melodic passages with the interlude of a deftly placed riser. sentient takes an alien vocodor style sound through a tense peak time work out while not here runs a dense droning pad through a gamut of minimally applied drums and modular noises.

helmed by back to basics resident james barnsley, it s safe to say vessel records know exactly what they re doing with their initial five releases including names such as daze maxim, burnski, dj honesty, laura jones and diego krause. the label s excellent discography continues in their sixth release with dan curtin under his purveyors of fine funk moniker - highly regarded for early releases on peacefrog, nepenta, and more recently bass culture. politics of dancing, known separately as s.m.a.l.l & paco, are the parisian duo behind their fastrising eponymous label, whereas british talent rhymos has quickly garnered a reputation for his compelling productions on the likes of overall music, whistleblower records and murmur. joined by barnsley himself, this four-track release demonstrates each artist in fine form. purveyors of fine funk s depth of bass is a raw sounding cut with ethereal atmospherics and moody chord sequences. james barnsley is next with his deep and trippy number titled she not fast before politics of dancing merge intricate percussion with rumbling bass in their mesmerising queens road. tying things together, rhymos gets rhythmic with jazz hand featuring acid licks and echoing effects.

french veteran dj w!ld delivers the third release on uk imprint vessel records, which features two originals plus remixes from argentinean producer franco cinelli and label founder james barnsley. plus loin is a thudding piece of robust house featuring heady toms, suspenseful drum rolls and spectral keys whilst whats up men is a more rhythmic cut containing a subtle bassline and echoing synths. on the flip, leeds producer james barnsley s version of what s up men alters the original into a peaktime-focused number with crunchy snares, until franco cinelli concludes the package with an animated rendition of plus loin.

following a slew of acclaimed releases on left blank and tri angle, as well an album with the much lauded young echo collective, vessel debuts on the burgeoning liberation technologies imprint with three diverse cuts of inimitable off-kilter electronics. *misery is a communicable disease* serves as a euphoric opener, primed for moments of escapism on or off the dancefloor with resonant hats and an exultant synth line laid bare upon a bed of gauzy pads and valve-warmed kicks. vmi is a different beast altogether, channeling the visceral spirit of minimal wave and punk aesthetic to create a sordid call to arms before the frenzied acid and lingering menace of *not for design* closes the record in typically deranged fashion.

after a string of successful releases on labels such as diapham and local talk, greek producer kindimmer joins forces with instinkt to deliver a deep and tasteful slice of heavy dance floor funk. already respected for his trademark tech-infused sounds, kindimmer goes one further on this ep with swinging percussion and infectious bass hooks.

acirnes musical background is rooted in her previous career as a successful vj: the world of visual arts exposed her to endless experimental sounds which shaped her vision and love for production.
