the music of brendon anderegg is a hall of mirrors, multilayered and self-obscuring. largely filtered through mountains, his pioneering electronic project with koen holtkamp, anderegg emerged as a solo artist in the late ‘90s. in recent years, anderegg has become sought after for his film scoring and audio work with his studio telescope audio, contributing to emmy-nominated films 102 minutes that changed america and 9/11: the days after for the history channel, and working with clients from espn to laura poitras’ praxis films. he returns now with june on thrill jockey.

the broken glass is a work conceived and produced between austria and spain and represents the eleventh reference of the catalogue of stoerung label. in this collaboration field recordings and synthesis processed by asferico create cyclical and hypnotic structures, which mia zabelka furnishes with her violin and voice. the lp version consists of two versions of the piece, the first more minimalist and conceptual and the second more rhythmical and synthesizer based. through a display of distorted and isolated sounds, we are driven in the first version into an deep listening, as if sounds where placed under a microscope or we were contemplating them through a telescope. this approach lets us perceive the bare physicality of sounds in a way which enables us to grasp subtleties and aspects of sound which we are not used to. the second version continues where the first version left us, but in this piece, we are eventually flooded by hypnotic loops, white noise and synthesis and the experience has a different flavor. now what we have acquired through the first version, the enhancement of our listening and appreciation of subtleties of sounds, is inserted into a rhythmical structure which acts as a strong current, pulling us inside an ocean full of astonishing sounds.

following his stunning everything is nothing ep, which kicked off the hubble telescope series for solar one music in 2015, luxus varta (aka emeric di paolo) is back with a new four track ep for french label, intramuros. ‘rosenhan experiment’ (named after david rosenhan’s famous study to determine the validity of psychiatric diagnosis, published in 1973 under the title “on being sane in insane places”) takes us on another electro trip into the human mind with paris the black fu from detroit grand pubahs once again making an appearance, on the track ‘losquato’. the ep opens with the wonderfully shimmering ‘wenn’ before luxus varta makes striking use of his background as a drummer on ‘lizzy’. ‘losquato’ is a playful addition with stripped back rhythms under paris’ story telling that bemoans a man’s work frustrations and resulting mental state (“i gave up therapy about a month ago. my therapist jumped out of a window”), while closer ‘tempsun’ is almost melancholy in its measured minimalism. recommended for lovers of drexciya and dopplereffekt.

a: q & a are quinn luke & alexis georgopoulos.

q: how did quinn and alexis meet?
a: the two were introduced by chris veltri, owner of legendary record shop groove merchant in san francisco. veltri and luke had made a pair of plunderphonic dusted disco 12 inches under the name coppa. georgopoulos was a founder of the group tussle and asked if coppa would do a tussle remix. this led to luke acting as producer on the tussle album telescope mind.

marco bernardi was an obvious choice for who got to do the first album on frustrated funk. representing his most delicate compositions ranging from freaky minimalistic electro trickery to the sweetest and intense excursions in the field of what they use to call intelligent techno . we simply picked out his best moments along the line and put it all together for this brilliant presentation. with this piece of art we show again that we don t give a shit about new styles, trends and hypes. we just want to deliver a very sweet package that you will still be playing and cherish in 15+ years from now. this deluxe double vinyl album will be sweetened with hand stamped label art, hand made screen printed sleeves and pressed on pretty pink transparent vinyl to make this package extra special. enjoy!!

mountains is brendon anderegg and koen holtkamp, friends since their middle school days. they began exchanging musical ideas and compositions which led to them founding the apestaartje label in 1999. as their collaborations and individual projects blossomed, they decided to create mountains as a vehicle for live performance. a love of sculpting sound in front of an audience is at the heart of mountains. the groupÆs third album, æchoralÆ (their first self-titled release and second album æsewnÆ were both on apestaartje), is the culmination of their work to date and a balanced mix of the first two efforts. mountains are often compared to artists such as brian eno and fennesz, citing their extended melodies and their unique broad guitar work. mountains seamlessly blend pastoral electronic sounds with both field recordings and a plethora of acoustic instruments.the effect is incredibly sublime and hypnotic as the sounds slowly wrap themselves around each other and alter themselves in the mind of the listener. includes free download voucher.
