across both sides, we find the combined talents of san diego based legends bernie “dj inform” fishman (side a) and mike “marsellus” wallace (side b), former roommates who first met while record hunting, eventually cementing a bond centered around the endless pursuit of quality sound. their respective collections are among some of the most respected worldwide, and the knowledge and flair on display in their dj sets is something to behold.
for those not yet fortunate enough to have caught fishman and/or marsellus out in the wild, you now have these recordings to enjoy - so turn those volume dials all the way up. a sure sign of the gifted dj is an ability to educate and entertain in equal measure, whether on the floor, in your crib, or on the street. to have two such selectors on a format that fits in the pocket is a treat that can’t be beat.

the head of grounded theory berlin returns to sonic groove with his strongest outing on the label to date. henning baer brings forth a rough and tough diverse four cut ep of chunky rhythmatic techno. recording the songs during live jams and using a previously decided pool of hardware this ep has a nice old school vibe. the sound production however is very much in the modern day with its well crafted mix downs. this release has strong mass appeal for the purist techno connoisseur.

vancouver outfit 1800haightstreet finally debut with a raucous four-track excursion for the lobster theremin black label series, aptly titled the pursuit . over four slices of heat-seeking techno the canadian trio build epic waves of anticipation and angst, whilst simultaneously cultivating the softer elements to create warm, enveloping textures.

between the two of them, jenifa mayanja and lola (aka dakini9) have over 20 years experience in nycs electronic music community as producers/djs and label owners. they return with their newly launched joint label and music collective sound warrior with their second release riding high on the buzz created by their first outing which was well charted and reviewed.

the multi-talented vanese smith aka pursuit grooves makes her debut on deepblak under her new 91 fellows moniker. after establishing herself in recent years with pursuit grooves outings heavy in beats and bass, smith turns her talents to more open sonic landscapes. >91 fellows< represents as she terms her push into cinematic dub leaning heavily on her collegiate film major roots. the project was inspired as a dedication to her grandfather who passed on in 2011. through a myriad of ambient textures, and percussion she invites the listener to join her as she weaves through different emotional headspaces. six tracks that run like chapters of saga accompanied by two remixes by deepblak chief alchemist aybee, and resident rhythm czar afrikan sciences.
