first ever official reissue of zamba zamba by peruvian band sangre joven! originally released in 1975 by mag (lima | peru) the 7inch vinyl is hardly available and a rare latin gem. any information about sangre joven is just as rare as the vinyl: there is in fact nothing about the band to be found on the internet.

afro was our first international release, and our first attempt to bring afro-peruvian music up to date in the same way as nicomedes santa cruz and others did decades ago when the fragile existence of this music was fading. we were very satisfied with the result, which is raw and acoustic but at the same time electronic. dark but soulful. deep and haunting at times. we are joined on this album by some of the finest afro-peruvian musicians on cajon, guitar and vocals giving every song a live feel and the album includes additional production on all tracks by nitin sawhney s and da lata s studio wizard toni economides.

new 7inch from the mysterious gitkin, who crisscrossed the us in the late 70s selling knockoff gibson guitars to the diverse & disparate groups of immigrants from all four corners of the globe who were coming to the us during the 2nd great migration. recycling and filtering the sounds he encountered through his own psychdelic lens, he created a sound rooted in other, but deeply his own. this single is taken from his forthcoming album, 5 star motel and features two tracks from the album grand street feast which charts a sand dusted, melodic funk misadventure, while cancion del rey has the sound of the peruvian chicha steady-moving, alluring, and lyrical winding its way through gitkins fuzz-filtered licks, and the rhythm underpinning.

having given us a taster of things to come back in september 2016, with the pressing matters single, the cyclist returns to hypercolour with a brand new, full length album. and as the title suggests, sapa inca delirium leans heavily on south american mysticism, not just musically, but in the visual imagery that the eleven-track album paints so well across its various tempos and rhythms. from the tropical burst of mood setting opener, go back to the steamy and pacey percussive flow of inhale/exhale which features regular collaborator tanaya harper on vocals, the cyclist’s fourth long player is crammed full of intriguing atmospheres and soundscapes. antiexist, with its down-tempo rolling snare fills and ethereal gregorian chanting segues effortlessly into a blind girl drinks ayawaska, a suitably discordant and hallucinogenic skit that ensures the album flows into the more rhythmic cuts like skateboarding in the jungle and mirrors (the second album cut to feature harper on vocals). even the traditional jazzier vibes of when we all break down featuring joni are kept rugged and boisterous, with heavyweight bending bass, choppy breakbeats and fx’d ambience amongst the smooth jazzy chords and sweet vocal delivery. sapa inca delirium is one of those albums that will reward on repeat listen, such is the diversity of style on show here, and the detailed and wide eyed curiosity offered up across the long players fifty three minutes.

guitarist rolando bruno hails from buenos aires and got his start playing a raw brand of garage and punk with his band los peyotes. a few years back he took a step into the not-so-distant world of afro-peruvian psicodelico that s had a recent renaissance throughout south america. what made his early forays into a more tropical branch of fuzz so unique was his accompanying band-or lack thereof. armed with an electric guitar and self-produced and recorded backing tracks, rolando bruno and his orquesta midi jet-setted across europe and japan as a mad scientist one-man band, laying down a relentless style of chicha classica gone loopy that earned him several tours and a full-length album with the swiss imprint, voodoo rhythm. originally recorded in 2011 and now remastered and presented by names you can trust on vinyl for the first time, these two tracks are a glimpse into rolandos prolific electric madness and a lysergic-laced pointer towards things to come from the talented six-stringer.

when dfc team (persi, collino & gemolotto) started their atahualpa project techno music was far to be a cool trend in the venues. even more innovative was to mash up acoustic, electronic, traditional instruments as peruvian panflutes and synthesizers while evocative voices drive listeners to the world of last inca emperor. it was in 1990 when ultimo imperio by atahualpa topped in several countries around the world becoming a milestone in the dance music history. nearly twentyfive years later dfc label releases 4 amazing new remixes and the story goes on

after a remix for dasos so sexy last year, the german-peruvian artist martin patiño confirms his presence on popcorn records with an entire ep. to begin with, solid ground is born from the collaboration with astrid. we already heard them on the great hunter ep on cadenza at the beginning of the year. the result of this new featuring is an original techno track with all the good components you expect from tr707 drums to a xylophone melody, in addition to the sexy and reassuring voice of astrid. the american pezzner honored us with a particular interpretation. a deep theme, with percussions, long and subtle panpipes breathe. as if pezzner was paying tribute to martin patinos roots. finally, routinary coffes comes to conclude this warm and deep record done for the sweating parties of the upcoming winter.

so you didnt get that last firecracker that came in an incredible sleeve and was limited to 45 copies? well now you and the other 99% of humanity can at least own the music contained within it with this regular re-release, and to be honest although the sleeve isnt hand-weaved by a peruvian tribe centuries known for their mastery of textile craft, the one yer getting here is pretty goddamn sweet. bringing together calypso rhythms and bernie worrell-does-acid lines, fudge fingas >untytled< is an exemplary example of why everyone is in admiration of the geezer, and that is because he can actually make actual music, with compositions and melody and all that. excuse the lofty jargon. linkwood bring equal heat in the form of >secret value<, but guess what? fudge fingas has gone and blessed it with the refreshing audio equivalent of yer girlfriends mint & tea tree shower gel, adding liquid bass and lush keys. the fingas finishes off the e.p with one of his most interesting tracks to date >minus 616<, a dense, immersive piano piece that proves that getting this e.p out to a wider audience was just simply a righteous and necessary move. take that skinny tie off, wrap it round yer arm and mainline that uncut funk, baby.

the new white release comes with a fundamental change: it s an artist ep. the faces series was a very radical and honest way to launch an artist. but for the artist eps we wanted to give them space, so they can share deeper insights of their artistic development with us. says oskar offermann, who runs the label and does all the a&r decisions. the kick-off ep comes from german-peruvian nu , who stood out already with his last white release voca (white004). he was desperately in search of a musical identity for his peruvian roots. so he decided to join a group of shamans during travels through his home country. and they took him on a spiritual journey, in order to find his lost roots on the other side. a trip to hell which lasted a few days.
