m.e.r 002 parque rodó ep is the first release put out by santiago on his own label. his approach to music shapes and reflects much of m.e.r s musical imprint.

m.e.r - montevideo electric recordings is an uruguayan record label named after its capital city, montevideo. supporting vinyl s cultural tradition, this was the chosen format for releasing the work of its artists. m.e.r sound found itself in constants evolution and mutation, merging latin groove and rhythm and it s african background with classic detroit sound generating a space where different cultures meet without being locked in one genre alone. through dj/live sets m.e.r artists deliver a strong commitment to spread club culture and techno/house heritage, with musical quality and a floor-oriented sound.

a stripped-down cut with some nice drums and a simple horn loop. must be heard on a monster system. 'all is possible' is an old school deep house romp with a cool uplifting vibe. on the flip the young governors (tony hewitt and joey youngman) keep their hot streak alive with a sizzling cut-up, dub-heavy mix of 'montevideo.' another essential ep from the tango camp!

in 1986, uruguayan vocalist and musician mariana ingold took the advice of a storied uruguayan composer and musicologist and recorded her first album (todo depende) for the now legendary label ayuí/tacuabé. in the early ’80s, the introduction of the synthesizer fostered an experimental new approach to traditional candombe rhythms. ingold’s influence on the scene looms large. pairing elegant vocals and majestic harmonies with complex arrangements, she pushed the montevideo-specific sound — loosely termed candombe fusion — in new directions and thrived working collaboratively with artists including eduardo mateo, jaime roos, and hugo fattoruso. with the assistance of chris j. morris, left ear records has extracted a collection of tracks that encapsulate this period between 1986-1991, lifting from her albums todo depende, cambio de clima, and haace calor. full liner notes translated in english and spanish with archival photos included.

(180gr) after a twenty-year search for the man behind the cult 70s jazz-funk group opa, far out are honoured to present barrio opa: a new work from fattoruso and his team of world-class musicians, including the sensational candombe drumming of the renowed silva brothers. recorded at sondor studios, montevideo, the album is the natural development of the original opa sound, fusing afro-uruguayan rhythms, jazz harmony and heavy funk attitude, under hugos unique musical vision. more recently fattorusos music has been sampled by the likes flying lotus and madlib.

futile demise ep is an emotional and disconcerting journey through the mind of finnish artist juha puupera. drawing on influences from norwegian black metal, uk sound system culture and italian horror cinema of the 1970s, gruth mixes dark and aggressive tones in his sonic palette. his production methods are often experimental and the style rarely fits into one box as it spans forward-thinking techno, black ambient and doom industrial. with his ep, gruth shapes montevideo-based tormenta electrica label’s first release. of the four tracks featured, two are collaborations with the finnish techno and ambient artist ikola, known for his etherwerks label, while the mysterious helsinki-based violinist and sound designer kujo contributes to the other two.

we are very excited to welcome rocco & esquivel to cosmica s roster this year. the duo formed by rodrigo desentis (méxico) and eduardo esquivel (uruguay) provide an uptempo gem strictly designed for the dance floor. esquivel is a well know name in the latin american electronic music scene, since he started his residency at the mythical club extasis in montevideo. after 25 years of career and extensively touring through uruguay, brasil and argentina, eduardo has settled in méxico city with residencies in the acclaimed blanco colima and casa disco.

an in-depth look at the 1970s catalogue of the uruguayan label macondo and the roots of subtropical music: bomba, cumbia, guaracha, merengue, porro, plena featuring 21 tracks by essential names such as sonora borinquen, conjunto casino, combo camagüey, sonora cienfuegos, grupo maracaibo, grupo antillano. set up in the port area of montevideo, macondo discos was founded by the chilean entrepreneur luis onel and named after the town from garcía márquez’s fictional universe. in its early days the label produced a catalogue comprising folk, tango, murga and rock. 1975 onwards, after the release of the lps tropical caliente by cienfuegos and exclusivo! by borinquen, marks the golden age of tropical music in our country according to carlos goberna, founder of sonora borinquen. macondo became a veritable tropical music factory in uruguay, amassing together with guacamayo (a sublabel dedicated to new artists) nearly 200 records in its ten years of existence.

in a time where we have seen a full through back to the sound of the 90s where almost every new record sounds exactly like it was made back in the day. its so refreshing to have producers like martin tc around. hailing from montevideo uruguay, former member of the now defunct monoblock project martin tc proves again that its all about the cutting edge of modern funkyness. delivering a ultra funky, jazz injected techno bomb of an ep. we are proud to present martin tcs first solo project and most definitely not his last. in situ on side a is an exploration in chicago style jack combined with a keen sense latin groove and definitely is the money ticket, a sure shot bomb, a burner, a floor filler, a wmd, explosive, techno poetry in motion… if i do say so… side b continues with the funkyness of bukle but takes in further into a more challenging up tempo realm that can go either way in a house or techno set. al fin y al cabo and vice versa are an excellent reminder that techno jazz is still here and that the swing will never die.

darek presents its ninth release and 2nd vinyl edition named >maremoto ep<. it includes three original tracks of dich also known as diego cheloni or katama and three remixes delivered by signal deluxe (trenton, eintakt, fade, blaq) from mexico df as well as demir & seymen (highgrade, pentagonik) from berlin and jimmi hendrik (deep vein audio, dirty monkey, tanztone) from plauen / jena. dich was born in fray bentos in uruguay, and nowadays, he is living in montevideo. he s very active as a dj, producer and remixer. his career began as a self-taught musician approaching to percussive instruments, guitar and piano. dichs productions go from minimal to conceptual and techno dub sounds. his music development embraces different styles and he is always ready to discover new horizons. his current work is definitely influenced by minimal and techno and it offers amazing variations of both styles. this new ep clearly shows that his production skills are very effective and he is definitely one to keep an eye on.
