theres no better man to mark the fiftieth release on wolf music than south london stalwart and og wolf family, medlar. marrying techy touches and ukg stylings, with sonar bumps and medlars signature, sample-heavy groove, its a fitting way to bring in the half century.

its taken almost 3 years to get the man like medlar back on delusions following his 2015 release with dan shake but finally its come together. that release, along with his regular output for wolf, riverette and for discos only has helped cement medlars reputation as one of the leading uk underground house producers and led to official remixes and approved edits for legendary labels tk disco and west end no less! the medlar seal of quality has led to support from such influential heavyweight selectors as dj harvey, gilles peterson and dj koze. kicking things off we see medlar in straight up dance floor mode on title track nrg, coming through with a drum-heavy workout that utilises a gnarly bassline, echoing synth stabs and rasping hats to excellent effect. flip over for his own dub version which strips things back further placing all the emphasis on the bassline and going heavy on the space echo for a tripped out, dubby warehouse vibe tailor made for the freaky hours. closing the ep we have the aptly named tripped which drops the bpm’s for a low-slung mood-setter to warm up the floors with. a simple groove lays the foundation for a rolling bassline while chiming synths weave in and out of the spacious mix.

this summer, the left of centre electronica label greco-roman hits its stride and celebrates 10 years of music. and to celebrate they are reissuing their biggest dance floor records and remixes on a series of ltd edition 12inces

the legendary west end records kick off 2017 with the a brand new re-edits series inviting like-minded producers with an underground thirst and a deep understanding of house & disco culture to collaborate on a very special project. first up, wolf music man medlar, applying his dancefloor know-how to west end’s rich archive of classic disco and boogie. hand picking four personal favourites, medlar reworks them perfectly for current club sets. picking out dub sections and skilfully reworking & extending them proving exactly why medlar has been such a draw to labels like delusions of grandeur and for discos only. “i put these edits together for myself and a few friends to play in our dj sets. west end was one of the key stepping stones to what would later become house music and for many is the definitive sound of early 80s new york. i d argue that it s aged better than any other label of that era and if you re relatively new to the label or know it inside out, the catalogue can likely still provide something new.” these four sublime new edits from medlar showcase his passion for digging deep, knowledge of house history and skills as a producer.

promos, edits, mega-mixes, the record pools, white labels, acetates, reel to reels. all of the above were the weapons of choice for the disc jockey s of yesteryear, utilising these tools helped various luminaries pave the way for where we are today on the modern dance-floor. those secret mixes, private versions and edits of the hottest disco jams that only the select few had access to could make or break a dj s reputation in the clubs and on the streets. it is within this world that the for discos only label operates, sourcing the finest underground edits and mixes for the discotheques. we carefully hand pick and dig for obscure or forgotten versions of the best tracks that may have been previously out of reach for the majority, inviting the hottest editors and mixers to open up their archives and share their secret weapons with us all via the medium of the 12- record.

moxie presents volume two sampler is the first physical release from moxie s compilation series of the same name on her newly conceived on loop imprint. the compilation was released for free via moxies soundcloud page in january 2016, and was met with rave reviews and radio support from the likes of benji b, gilles peterson, annie mac and toddla t. this sampler features 3 tracks taken from the compilation and an exclusive dub of medlars in dreams, the original of which was a highlight on the compilation.

hand stamped vinyl only release with promo feedback form included... the a side, body action has been causing quite a stir since it was included in medlar s excellent solid steel mix last year. with it s recognisable vocal hook and piano line, it stood out amongst the high calibre of records included. on the flip aya chan is a brand new cut but channels medlar s love for classic 80 s labels such as west end & prelude.

it’s not often that a breakthrough producer manages to cause major hype after just one release but when that artist is from the uk, putting out a brilliant ep on moodymann’s mahogani music, you start to realize how it happened in dan shake’s case. now its time for dan to build on this incredible start and from the way things are looking it’s safe to say it’s all going in the right direction. another rising star from the uk is wolf music regular medlar who has been making serious waves the last 5 years. remixes for the likes of glenn astro and disclosure have all helped put him in the spotlight and his debut lp sleep from 2013 delivered in spades. so when the news that these two were joining forces for a collaborative project reached us here at d.o.g we wanted in on the action.

soul has always been a constant in wolfs musical adventures, and here they release an ep that is positively drenched in it. wolfep026 has been crafted by wolf favourite, ishmael. a multi-instrumentalist who has featured on the label in the past but is now stepping up for his first full ep. fans of wolfep017 will be familiar with his debut single *want you* that received praise from the likes of jimpster, lovebirds & ben westbeech. this release is his full debut ep, and is a taster of what you can expect from this exciting new addition to the pack.

every once in a while, there comes an artist who taps into the zeitgeist of music while injecting a lethal dose of individuality at the same time. glenn astros brand of 80s-and-90s-inspired house and hip hop contains an organic glow, a glorious shuffle, which sets the essen-based producer aside from his contemporaries. with releases on big bait, odd socks and ritmo sportivo, glenn has made fans of the likes of move d, dj ez, casino times and medlar, whose killer remix features on this release alongside a dark stomper from deft.

our next release on the kolour mother-ship features rising canadian talent the noodleman. he laces us with an absolute picturesque, low-slung deep house affair that, for us, is one of those sweet-spot tunes.

way back then home taping dropped a release by an anonymous act called klic that turned out to be another moniker for a medlar production. now the imprint re-launch the original alongside a couple of mighty remixes by the tuff city kids in both acid and garage modes plus an extension and rework of the original vibes by dicky trisco that pushes the proper deep house meets disco button. all the remixes sit nice and proud alongside the still shining brilliance of the original cut

khalab has arrived onthecorner with ‘zaire’. ‘zaire’ is the beginning of a new narrative for the artist. in this first chapter khalab creates urgent compositions with layers of sound from the past, present and future. ‘zaire’ is underpinned by an intensely pounding heart of other-worldly percussion. the collaged loops frenetically jab in syncopation breaking off when the inherent swing casts its discrete groove to summon the dance. unrelenting waves of synthlines, basslines and rhythm find harmony amongst the melodic chants and distortion.
