sacred skin wurde im frühjahr 2020 in los angeles gegründet und besteht aus dem kreativen duo brian damert und brian tarney. in kürzester zeit haben die beiden eine nahezu unübertroffene fähigkeit bewiesen, hymnische popmusik zu kreieren, die von romantik und melancholie durchdrungen ist und von schichten über schichten von new-wave-nostalgie durchtränkt wird. nach einer beeindruckenden reihe von singles im jahr 2021 und im darauffolgenden jahr veröffentlichte die band im mai 2022 ihr mit spannung erwartetes debütalbum the decline of pleasure, das mit großem erfolg aufgenommen wurde. bewaffnet mit vintage-equipment wie dem sequential circuits prophet-vs und dem e-mu emulator ii und angetrieben von starkem songwriting, gekonnter produktionsarbeit und damerts emotionsgeladenem gesang, haben sacred skin ein modernes meisterwerk abgeliefert, das sowohl in die 80er jahre als auch in die gegenwart gehört. ein album, das es wert ist, neben den stärksten bemühungen von idolen wie duran duran, inxs, peter gabriel, depeche mode und new order zu stehen. ein album, das die herzen so vieler menschen bereits erobert hat und dies zweifellos auch in den kommenden jahren tun wird.

anfang mai kündigt sich eine der spektakulärsten jazz-veröffentlichungen des jahres an: der 34-jährige jazzgigant und komponist kamasi washington veröffentlicht via brainfeeder / ninja tune sein albumdebüt »the epic«. episch ist diese veröffentlichung auf dem flying lotus label in allen belangen: ein 172-minütiges set, bestehend aus drei bänden inklusive 32-köpfigem orchester, einem 20-personen chor sowie washingtons langjährigen band-projekten the next step und west coast get down. kamasi washington arbeitete bereits mit künstlern wie lauryn hill, snoop dogg oder herbie hancock zusammen und gilt als einer der talentiertesten jazzmusiker mit weltweiter reputation.
