there is no elsewhere is haiku salut’s third album and sees the acclaimed trio from derbyshire continue their distinctive re-imagining of dreampop and rural electronica. influenced by the evocative film soundtracks of yann tiersen and benoît charest, the genre-melting electronica of early múm, and the impressionistic writing of haruki murakami, the band have previously released two critically acclaimed albums whilst last year they collaborated with public service broadcasting on the track “they gave me a lamp”, which featured on the psb’s top five album, every valley. yet it is this release that sees the band finally find their place, both musically and politically.

the fourth ep from raw waxes includes two tracks from the noisemaker, italian producer already on fire during the last years. both original tracks have got a delightful groovy soul, amplified by a dark arpeggio, which drives strong energy in stomach and legs of the listeners. the sounds he choses are captivating, dynamic, and push feelings to an high vitality. the deepness of the original tracks is perfectly interpreted by the remixers, who kept his mood and added a personal touch to it. on the a side, mike parker keeps a sinister atmosphere and beautifies it with noisy and raw sounds, which coherently distinguish his productions from many others. on the b side, haiku develops mostly the dance floor mood of the original track with an upbeat based production going through mind trip breaks and industrial pads, giving to the entire release a summer breathe.

sacred summits returns after a two-year hiatus with an album of interpretations of the music of eric satie by acclaimed composer morgan fisher. active for over 50 years morgans career has moved from 60s number one hit wonders love affair, to 70s rocknroll keyboardist in mott the hoople, before finally on to 80s ambient, improvisation and soundtracks, working with the likes of yoko ono, haroumi hosono and dip in the pool. based in japan since the mid-80s, fishers long-standing admiration for erik satie (1866- 1925) led to these inside satie recordings. satie’s unique work as a precursor to artistic movements such as minimalism, surrealism and repetitive music are acknowledged but for long periods he was not given the accolades his music warranted. a strange, eccentric, surreal man, he was never as acclaimed as the established masters, but influenced not only the likes of debussy but also many of the dada artists. on this album morgan played his music freely after just a brief look at the scores. recorded in just three days, it features piano, melodica, synthesisers, and morgans favoured tape delay system. inside satie is one of the first albums i recorded in japan shortly after moving here in 1985. in three days i improvised on several of my favourite satie themes. mostly i played piano as well as the rich, analog-sounding yamaha gs-1 (precursor of the dx-7), and sometimes used long tape delays to build layers of sound. all the pieces were recorded in single takes no overdubs (no time!).

inaugurating 2016 with lee holman’s debut ‘one man army’ on raw waxes, the italian imprint welcomes the new year with a series of remixes of the irish producer’s release of last may, which feature four benchmarks of contemporary techno: cassegrain, distant echoes, haiku and kimyon. the record is out on 12” vinyl format. it comes on black vinyl with an additional hand numbered paper insert realized by german illustrator benedikt rugar, who also designed the illustrations of lee holman’s ‘one man army’, the drawing is a continuation of that release’ visual abstract porn concept.

italian label out-er celebrates its five years of existence with an incredibly diverse double 12” compilation involving new and old artists who perfectly represent the ample house and techno sounds the label has been spreading: juan atkins, orlando voorn, efdemin, terrence dixon, label owner simone gatto, civilian, the analogue cops, aubrey, haiku, irakli and regen.

recorded in haiku-pauwela, maui between 3rd febraury and 14th february 2016 anthony child aka surgeon presents the second volume of recordings of buchla music easel recorded in the jungle of maui. again we find child s in a more ambient guise and setting as the calm breath of the jungle sets a real time back-drop for his electronic explorations. there is no additional layering and all environmental sounds simply occurred throughout the improvisations. the range on display veers from melodic drones to sparkling arpeggios all revolving around a thick bed of (buchla) electronic and (environmental) acoustic interplay. nine personality type map hovers on a bed of syncopated rhythms whilst the nearby sonic mist of the forest seeths in and out of the frame whilst nightfall of diamonds provides a sonic analogy for the darkness and light contradiction that occurs only in such rich natural environments. the simultaneous acts of improvising, listening and creating provide a rich setting for the curious listener. another gem in a catalogue filled with gold.

globally admired dj and producer riva starr is back on hot creations and fired up to send dancefloors wayward with dippin side. this time he calls on techno don joseph capriati to remix plus teams up with rising producers haiku 575. title track dippin side is an ultimate club banger, while capriatis remix skillfully strips back into a deep end roller. owls and toucans brings the collaboration with haiku 575, playing with trippy synths over heavy percussions.

the third issue of raw waxes’ release number four is on the way. after featuring mike parker, haiku, inigo kennedy and korova as remixers of the noisemaker, this time we see abstract division and blind observatory reinterpreting ‘shuttle’, the final track of the series. shuttle starts with a fat kick and a psychedelic synth, bleep and acid elements go back and forth, up and down, appearing from the gloom of the artist’ soul. hi-­&#8208,,,hats, acid and bleep evolve together, embracing acidity and generating a naughty groove. abstract division’s reinterpretation is clearly a 4/4 dance floor oriented. based on the evolution of the acid patterns as a minded loop, the dutch duo adds 909 hi-­&#8208,,,hats and claps, modify the the kick-­&#8208,,, bass structure, reaching a trusted track for exciting moments into clubs. blind observatory’s remix is the gentle side of the record. starting slowly and lightly, the artist sets a mellow synth plus clean hi-­&#8208,,,hats, turning the production into a sweet idm caress. a personal, delicate cut appraising the entire release.

this e.p. sets out to honor to spring wherever and when it may happen. it arrived early for our location the year it was first created. *furuike ya - ancient pond* was the original title. this is taken from an ancient haiku by matsuo basho. the remix for *ancient pond* was created by jason drummond (aka dj spun) from rong music nyc. this rework of the original adds a funky twist to the beats and bass line. *electric sheep* is taken from the philip k dick book including this portion its title. the theme of this track hints on the nature of our creations and the future possibilities. this particular version contains only the 303 melodies/elements of the original, which is set to be released in the next ep to follow. pressing on transparent, blue colored vinyl.
