after 5 years of exploration, it’s time for the first album on the label. johannes volk proudly presents mutual codes, a conceptual album which contains 12 tracks between detroit infected techno and experimental classical compositions. colourful synth adventures which take you on a journey to far away galaxies and beyond.

constant variables third release comes courtesy of sven von th?len aka s:vt, whoãs slowly been making a name for himself with records on work them, myth music and, recently, dred. on club variables part 1 he delivers three no-nonsense techno workouts, aimed squarely at the dance floor. work!

we re not sure who s behind the mysterious ac-exp project, but the shadowy figure returns with more of that strange, submerged house music he s been tickling discerning djs with over the past few years. after taking last year off, 1a is a fine place to start things up again with a strutting jack track carrying acidic synth pulses that flirt with measured delay processing. its a jam that sounds steamy and sinister all at once. 1b maintains this restrained but seductive vibe with the slightly trancey throb of the lead synths pivoting around the snappy drums to great effect.

constant variables returns with the debut four tracker by new berlin-based project ecotone. on close to phobia he embarks on four journeys of pummeling and trippy techno full of swirling synth lines, out-there sequences and rough (break)beats, all perfectly balanced with a cinematic sense of post-industrial drama. soon to light up a warehouse party near you

constant variables is the new techno offshoot of the enigmatic electro label expansion unit. cv’s inaugural release comes courtesy of berlin’s pascal hetzel, who is one of the driving forces behind the label. the ep features two expertly layered exercises in techno hypnosis as well as a slamming white-knuckle remix by luis flores and a murky excursion into drone-y ambient territory. watch this space!

whoever is behind the ac exp project has clearly worked very hard to ensure their identity remains under wraps, with zilch info out there on the big old internet. which is a shame because theres a degree of class to the two untitled productions on this 10- that demands some recognition. both are unassuming club tools that any deep house selector will appreciate a few hours into their set, all swirling, dubby atmospherics, tunnelling rhythms and snapping percussion.

review geophone returns with a four track various artists ep curated by the label boss mike parker. the a side begins with new artist eastern renaissance, who delivers a melodic and acidic dreamscape in classic form. mike parker continues this science fictional atmosphere with his contribution, night of 21 hours with whirling analogue sequences that remind us of flying saucers and outer space. the b side moves in a harder direction with echologists buzzing and bleeping syncopations backed with heavy drum programming. the always surprising stanislav tolkachev concludes the ep with a track that pushes the boundaries, reflecting his unique interpretation of techno music

silencio, a new label out of chicago, will debut its first release from new young talent cirq’on titled the other side ep. on the a-side, “screaming around”, makes its presence felt with a beefy bass line that periodically stacks and stutters throughout its progression. this track is impossible to resist. even the most hardened scenester, the type of person who never dances in an effort to look cool, will be forced to cut a rug as they acquiesce to the bombardment of this pleasing beat. peppered throughout with spooky vocals, tempestuous tones and mysterious snippets, it leads you down a path of rhythms that pushes past the point of no return. similar to the first transmissions intentionally broadcast out into our universe for the purpose of contacting intelligent life, “the messenger” delivers on the b-side with layers of haunting harmonies that unfold over simple, satisfying drums. it’s steadily driven by scintillating sounds in the form earthbased radio signals that rise and fall, as if bouncing off of orbiting space debris on their journey to the great unknown. this track is best described as a mind-exp.
