fluxions ripple effect is the film score for a non-existing motion picture. this 9-track album is the result of experimentation and the combination of the producers two most cherished art forms: electronic music and score music. ironically the two worlds rarely seem to meet, despite the fact that score music has adopted a looser form in order to better adapt to film accompaniment, bringing it closer to electronic music which attempts to contradict form or shed it altogether. fluxion felt the need to bring these two musical forms into dialogue with each other, lending structure to electronic and deconstructing score music to create a malleable and expressive hybrid. the albums production took two years from its original conception for the subliminal story to unfold into the completed product. fluxion wanted to say as much as possible through the music, leaving the visuals as a blank canvas for the listener to create their own story. in the end, the goal is to give each member of the audience a unique audiovisual experience based on their own perception and interpretation.

the radical discovery by amir abdullah of 5 two-track master tapes in the care of hermine brooks Ð widow of innovative detroit drummer roy brooks Ð of the charles mingus quintet recorded live in detroit at strata concert gallery is cause for some serious celebration. these electrifying recordings took place during mingusÕ week-long residency in february 1973. they were broadcast live by drummer/producer and broadcaster robert ÒbudÓ spangler for wdet fm Ð a public radio station dedicated to jazz Ð from kenny and barbara coxÕs multi-purpose home for strata records at 46 selden. entrance to the gig was $5 dollars in advance and $6 on the door.

alienus presents a new compilation comprising new and not so new faces on our beloved planet earth. this time, we would like to emphasize that truth is beyond consciousness and consciousness implies duality. consciousness would imply that one is conscious of the truth, hence separate from the truth. some wise humans reckon no one can know the truth, but can be in the truth. music wise, you will find some warm tones that evoke deep and ethereal feelings in the listener. it took us some time to pick specimens capable of delivering these highly sought-after emotions.

just as magnified record grooves reveal dust constellations and lunar landscapes, so too does godblesscomputers third album. solchi is a deep search into previous moments in lorenzo nadas lifetime, influenced by the presence and power of music. his process began with the recovery of some old cassettes, mixtapes nearly forgotten, audio recording of voices from his childhood, and lots of dusty jazz, soul, and hip-hop records. as the starting point of this travel merge with its end, past and present combine to form gbcs current sound. warm electronic production rooted by grooving bass lines form the core of a kaleidoscope of sixteen tracks, colored by synthesizers, guitar echoes, scratches, samples, fading voices and kalimba. the album is a collection of sixteen stories, sixteen soundscapes, each of them gbcs tribute to the path taken thus far, an homage to his love for music. the recording and studio work took place over a year, with the adding and subtracting of many elements.

since jim coles took on the mantle of om unit, the english producer has sought to challenge himself and his audience by going beyond the confines of genres and styles he has so far explored. in the process he has found success by striving for more feeling, for a more human and daring electronic music. this journey continues with ÔselfÕ, colesÕ third album as om unit and a true follow-up to his 2013 debut ÔthreadsÕ.

those of a certain vintage may have a soft spot for global underground s after hours series, which promised to soundtrack -the party after the club- by joining the dots between woozy progressive house, deep techno, electronica and, of course, ambient. some eight years after the last installment, the long-running club brand has decided to re-launch the series. apparently, this latest installment took a year to put together, and featured tweaked, edited and gently reworked tunes layered up for a more enjoyable listening experience. musically, it sticks to similar territory to previous installments, updating the sound a little via tracks and remixes from ewan pearson, lawrence, scuba, matrixxman, michael mayer and joris voorn.

two years ago i played at studio 9 in vilnius, lithuania. the following day i missed my flight home and ended up spending an extra day, which gave me a chance to explore the city with my friend linus, who took me to the contemporary art centre. it was there i spotted a book named ÔrojusÕ, that linus told me translated as ÔparadiseÕ. the word and striking cover of the book stuck in my mind. a few days after returning home, i turned on to a national geographic documentary named Ôdesigned to danceÕ, explaining the courtship rituals of birds of paradise. as i watched, i jokingly began drawing similarities between these birdsÕ attempts to captivate and impress the opposite sex with dance, and the way strangers try to attract one another in clubs and interact on the dance floor. this gave me the idea of creating a record of functional club music, sequenced as if it were a club night, from doors to closing, using samples of these birds of paradise and their habitat. thus, rojus. leon vynehall 2016

in april of this year, donato dozzy took a set of mouth harps back to his parents house in the italian countryside and set about exploring the possibilities of that most basic of instruments. the mouth harp had been calling to dozzy ever since childhood, when he had discovered the marranzano on a holiday in sicily with this parents at the tail end of the 1970s. almost four decades later, dozzy had begun to see in this peculiar, ancient sound, the roots of the music hed been making and playing in clubs all these years.

jura, the sophomore full-length from the swiss duo larytta, is a galvanizing synthesis of essential grooves and effervescent melodies. it took years to finish the record! christian pahud and guy meldem spent this time carefully calibrating their songwriting to achieve what could be called the golden mean, i.e. the perfect balance between a radio friendly sound and club functionality. the result is a collection of songs that are instantly accessible, yet wholly unpredictable. they feel familiar because they were crafted by seasoned musicians who, over the years, have mastered the science of fundamental swing and melody.

(features for cate le bon and franz ferdinands alex kapranos, among others, certainly fit in.) as always, its impeccably produced - hollon has only gained in proficiency and maturity as a producer. but compared to seed to sun or blue eyed in the red room, whose fascination with sound was positively contagious, zig zaj sounds like an overly safe record, the type that most producers would avoid if they wanted to keep innovating. heavily influenced by rock and 80s new wave, similar to neon neons stainless style, its impressions are largely textural, and as talented a producer as boom bip has become, zig zaj sounds more like a rehash than the entirely new recipe that music fans are undoubtedly looking for.
