bleep. easily one of the most influential sounds to grow out of the burgeoning electronics scene of the late 80s. nowadays, easily one of the most overlooked genres. but not around njimgen. shipwrec are turning some deserved attention to those pioneering plinks and plonks for a 12- homage to the trailblazers of the sound, lfo. quadratschultz provides the material, the german artist serving a warehouse brewed, acid spiked, tribute to mark bell and gez varley. posthuman ruffle the edges that bit more with a bleary eyed 303 monster before countryman fah gives basslines a steroid injection for a thick and meaty mix. varley closes with a tribute to his former group. his lfo remix might be a solo endeavour but it has all the raw unrefined dancefloor energy that characterised the music of a certain pair of young lads from leeds cerca 1990. bleep bliss.

an in-depth look at the 1970s catalogue of the uruguayan label macondo and the roots of subtropical music: bomba, cumbia, guaracha, merengue, porro, plena featuring 21 tracks by essential names such as sonora borinquen, conjunto casino, combo camagüey, sonora cienfuegos, grupo maracaibo, grupo antillano. set up in the port area of montevideo, macondo discos was founded by the chilean entrepreneur luis onel and named after the town from garcía márquez’s fictional universe. in its early days the label produced a catalogue comprising folk, tango, murga and rock. 1975 onwards, after the release of the lps tropical caliente by cienfuegos and exclusivo! by borinquen, marks the golden age of tropical music in our country according to carlos goberna, founder of sonora borinquen. macondo became a veritable tropical music factory in uruguay, amassing together with guacamayo (a sublabel dedicated to new artists) nearly 200 records in its ten years of existence.

after various releases on weevil neighbourhood, two of the label’s key figures, anthone, who made a first appearance in 2012 with the “aloof” ep and “double dub / clear view” as well as “breath/lungs” in 2014 and katsunori sawa, who debuted with the “lr” ep in 2011 together with yuji kondo as steven porter and later released “the two legs” (2013) as well as “holy ground” (2014) as a solo artist, team up as bokeh for their first collaborative outing dubbed “peace obscured”. the release comes as a 12” ep combining both artists trademark musical vocab - industrial dub and noise influenced techno - resulting in a three tracker of relentlessly driving bottom end rave. black vinyl, limited edition, artwork by lee noble (no kings records/ bathetic).

following the peace obscured ep by bokeh, his joint venture with anthone, katsunori sawa sets yet another mark on the weevil neighbourhood with his first full-length solo artist album on the label. titled secret of silence the eight tracks-spanning work of kyoto based sawa drills through japan techno, industrial breaks and noise while flirting with breakcore and a more aggressive take on dub.
katsunori sawa has been with the label for pretty much four years now with solo projects as well as joint ventures (besides the aforementioned bokeh, he’s also part of steven porter with his brother in arms yuji kondo with whom he also runs their own 10 label). his musical career reaches back another few years when he was writing and producing under eoc (short for enormous o clock), including an album for ai records.
