there is a new name on cargo edition, but by no means an unknown one. as a dj markus schatz has been on the move for years now, all the while maintaining his roots in the berlin club scene. markus started producing in 2004 and both his solo eps and collaborations with tom clark on highgrade records and opossum recordings last year clearly demonstrate that his talents go far beyond the turntables. and now for his first ep on cargo edition, markus takes a step further into the musical spectrum. drippin is a nimble house track accented with a note of funk and the smooth vocals of sean andino, giving the track a slight pop-appeal. in contrast flippin gives us a beautifully reduced form of house all driven by a powerful rolling bass line, a textbook example of less is more. as a perfect ending restart surprises with its smooth house arrangements and sophisticated deepness. a truly versatile ep from a truly versatile producer.

over the last year a new generation of young and ambitious electronic / house producers from italy have caused lot of rumors. adriano is a great interpreter of the scene in the heart of italy, which is going to become the new centre for house and techno culture. eimaleins captures the essence of adrianos style, releasing this two tracks which have the houzy and techy flavours, wisely mixed with solid but quite funk groove. adriano calls his friend matt brown to remix his track voices. its an amazing super warm and smooth piece of house music.

2009 is quite obviously sven tasnadis year, having already released five eps this year on cream-of-the-crop labels like pokerflat, ornaments and liebe*detail. each ep revealed a new facet of the leipziger, riding the nuances between the 4/4 beat. after his ep >down under influence< with juno6 in spring 2009, tasnadi now dishes up his new solo ep on cargo edition. >what we do< is a classic housetrack - very deep and peppered with vocal shots that hold the tension of the track over its whole length. it s smooth, yet deliciously rough around the edges. >amour fou< on the b-side surprises with a very compact rhythm - around the driving bass drum fly percussive elements, all tied together by a reduced bassline, some interspersed vocal samples and deep chords.

joss moog drops his 1st solo ep on minority after having successful previous outings on robsoul. fat mamma is a jacked up chicago track that will be doing the rounds with the likes of derrick carter & mark farina. rhodes trip is armed with deep chords and slick beats and is reminiscent of room 25. everything inside has all the right ingredients to kick start a party, tough beats, smooth vocal stabs and a killer bass line. joss finishes the ep off in style with a big jazz bass line, groovy keys and a hypnotic sax that would work the dance floor at any time of the night.

this ep opens with a funky but chill pinched, a mid-tempo track that starts out with a shuffled beat and deep bassline before breaking down and coming back with a haunting synth that is almost reminiscent of heartthrob. the second track on the a-side, sublingual, starts out almost as stripped down before turning into a smooth dancefloor track very much in the vein of the current output of dial records.

vertex is an exploration in two parts. the a sideÆs vertex and the locus of points explore the trackier side of tejadaÆs work meant mostly for vinyl play. both tracks make good use of strong wavetable chorded sounds, which are modulated throughout. the rhythms of the chords make up the identity of the track with elements coming in and out. vertex showcases a more layered approach to take the track from a percussive to a smooth feel. the locus of points follows more of a straight up techno approach sounding simple and effective. the b-side explores the more melodic and arrangement based side of tejadaÆs work. liquid mirror is a track rich in layers. 3 modular synth layers provide the initial modulating melodic ground work which is then complimented by lush tejada keyboard work bringing the song to itÆs apex and then reducing it back to itÆs start all while backed by tejadaÆs powerful drum work. p.l.l. (which stands for phase locked loop, a process explored here) continues this theme in a less obvious way. modular synths and drum tracks start things off while midway a modulating melodic phrase is introduced playing back a bit differently every time. four songs in all showcasing tejadaÆs simple and complex approach to dance music.
