5 track ep. yamahas dx series of synthesizers has long been a source of inspiration for tom trago. the dx7, in particular, appeals to the dutch producer thanks to a unique sound that he describes as glassy but classic and icy. 34 years after it went on sale the same year as trago was born, interestingly the synthesizer’s sound still bristles with futurist appeal. trago, who was partially trained in how to use the dx7 by studio friends bok bok, sterac electronics and juju and jordash, has decided to pay tribute to this most distinctive of synthesizers by using it as inspiration for serene waters, his first ep for voyage direct since 2014 epic hidden heart of gold.

kalita records release their first in a series of coveted reissues, starting with the three choice cuts from nst cophie s 1980 private press ivory coast afro-disco album mon da center. after moving to paris in 1976 and having played with other well-known bands such as n bamina, osibisa, and with numerous artists including jimmy hyacinthe and papa wemba, mon da center was ernest s first solo album. recorded at studio caroline in paris s 20th sector over the space of one week, this self-funded ultra-rare album regularly exchanges hands for eye-watering prices. pretty much unknown except to the most hardened of diggers, bian kou , e clolo and mioukouna are guaranteed to set any dance floor alight, with hypnotic afro-disco grooves, killer drums and angelic female vocals.

just a few months after its first release, nitsa traxx comes back with a very special 12”. the project started with a file exchange between eduardo de la calle and ferenc. they decided to work each track on their own side using only a few isolated sounds from the other. this way none of the tracks could never be treated as a full original, but proper remixes of tracks that never existed, building an uncanny, almost dreamlike emotion. a side is for ferenc’s “parón largo”, where synthetic strings are omnipresent and time and space unbends, evolving to an anticlimax where an eerie vocal and the longest possible drop are the leading trademark. a never ending and emotional standstill that goes deeper than the mariana trench. eduardo de la calle uses his distinctive signature sound in the b side. “cloaking tech d fly d” is an obsessive yet beautiful track that reminds us of the somewhere in detroit series. this is a mental and heart-warming tribute to the motor city sound that just a producer like eduardo could do. next releases are on the corner already, and we can’t wait to share them with you.
