embezzlement society takes us back to the early days of 80s hip-hop with his ‘rough quarters ep. on his record the man from belfast heavily relies on funk-based drum loops as were popular in the glorious days of old school hip-hop. the results are two super casual tracks with a cool hip-house attitude just perfect for hip-house lover drei farben house who took the chance to contribute a remix in his slick and smooth style, merging the raw drums with some tender rhodes. tenderpark regular roman rauch finishes off the ep and slows down the tempo in his remix concentrating on the originals of the samples and displaying his mastery with the mpc once more. as always all tracks have been mastered and cut by helmut erler at dubplates & mastering.

shadeleaf drop their eighth release in what is now established as essential catalogue ! joseph caserta (now known simply as caserta) is a multifaceted dj & producer based out of boston, massachusetts, who has worked with razor n tape, soul clap records, midnight riot, bbe, and kon s star time imprint. ricky is a little slice of traditional est coast, soundsystem house - a simplistic but textured workout aimed squarely at the floor, with it s lascivious narration and repetitive hook the jeep mix harks back to those 90 s b2 beats mixes on the big apple s prodigious hip hop output... digging royalty and a bona-fide master of the art of the re-edit kon handles the first of the b side re-rubs stripping things back a little and letting the bump and hustle ride to an altogether more hypnotising and atmospheric destination finally label boss that man monkz adds more than a little sheffield grit to proceedings, amping the rhythm section and laying out a deadly bass line... another shadeleaf sureshot !

the mysterious talent antenna shows his tough, high impact house sound for his second release on the dutch pinkman label. first up, ‘childhood’ is a mid tempo bit of elastic, groove driven house with whirring machines, raw synth patterns and filtered, muffled vocals. hi hats add an incendiary element of pressure but really this one is all about the pinging, rubbery drums that flail like drunken limbs. ‘when i read my book’ is another purposeful offering riddled with melody and deep drums, slapping claps and lots of jittery cow bells, impish synth sounds and bass kills that brings a real sense of energy to proceedings. lastly, ‘in august’ is a tripped out cut with skipping kick drums, celestial and heavenly, glassy melodies and skittish percussion that all glide along in alluring and off kilter fashion. this is house music, but not as you know it!

a labour of love and friendship, the camila ep contains two finely-worked originals. the slow, loping, scratchy jnd is a collaboration with close friend jürgen von krebs that brings to mind stl and theo parrish in its interlocking simplicity and off-key accents. ricky g. (soulmate mix) is a smoother, more wistful glide, paying tribute to the lady in st. josephs life. finally, giegling-affiliated dreamer edward provides his own psychedelic take on jnd, twisting the synth line through a battery of live percussion samples and analog bass. dusty, wonky, raw, musical – words synonymous with the great 3 chairs, but totally apt for describing st. josephs growing discography on lisbon-based imprint assemble music. vinyl only.

borrowed music return to wax see s a release that very nearly didn t see the light of day. between the years of 1995-99, toka project were writing tracks at diy s studio and releasing ep s with their label, s4g. these tracks were stored on dat tape (remember) and left for release at a later date. when the toka boys moved into their own place the dats were misplaced and presumed lost for good. unknown to anyone at the time, the tracks had simply been placed on a hard drive and forgotten about, until now. so, borrowed is very proud to present a slice of unreleased 90s house just the way we like it

hello sailor is a party and record label based in brooklyn, ny founded by brazilian-born, new york based renata do valle. since 2012, the label has been staging events with an array of local and international artists. following the killer first release ( muko wapi ), featuring the joakim rework was never going to be easy, but luckily sao paolo dj duo selvagem step up ! acclaimed releases on the beats in space x label and universal cave have established them as a force to be reckoned with in the esoteric edits game. le freak is a cumbia style rendition of the chic classic, driven by insane synths and sampled drum loops, punctuated with low-pitched vocals in portuguese. tamanqueiro could be one of the greatest hits by jorge ben, if it wasn t written by elizio de buzios. that s his only release ever and now is a holy grail of brazilian funk, fetching small fortunes when found. here it appears in an extended and dj-friendly version.
