last spotted together on the cut some three years ago with their eponymous debut lp, the crew like kaidi tatham, akwasi mensah, matt lord, and dego ‘ranks’ mcfarlane reunite for this fresh 2000black 12&#8243,,,,,. off the christmas card list is apparently a precursor to a second album from the quartet and it’s the last 12&#8243,,,,, in a fine year for 2000black that saw the killer dego lp as the centrepiece. the a-side is dedicated to the title cut, an endlessly slinky boogie number that really showcases the collective musicality of this crew, whilst the b-side is split between “hurry whilst they are away” and “fila high”. the former is bugged out beat down west london-style, and the latter a killer latin-flecked cut.

shift work are an electronic duo who have previously released on jd twitch’s glasgow label optimo. they debut on houndstooth with ‘document ii’, an ep developed from live jams on outboard analogue gear. ‘abandoned hands’ is lean and raw, an angular bassline and indecipherable vox punctuating the relentless 4/4 kick drum and pattering percussion. ‘sbfm’ is fuller-bodied, with the modulating bassline taking centre stage, draped in loose synths and topped with a deadpan vocal refrain. shift work invited remixes from their associates, with dva damas dialling down the tempo and stripping back ‘abandoned hands’ further still, whilst factory floor return to remix duty on houndstooth with a typically subtle yet infectious building groove. cut and mastered by matt colton at alchemy and limited to 500 copies worldwide.

uk house veteran phil asher arrives on rekids with the latest project in his storied career, a collaboration with emergent london poet & musician james massiah. having chanced upon him a performance during a fiona bevan presents night at dalstons servants jazz quarters, asher immediately approached massiah about a possible collaboration: as soon as i heard james i knew i had to work with him. his poetry is infectious, textured & interesting. time & space took years to imagine but 25 minutes to write. it took james approximately the same amount of time to lay his poem down. asher approached matt edwards with the results, and the time & space ep was confirmed for release on rekids: two original cuts of futuristic house emboldened by massiahs electrifying street poetry, and a reprise version of the title track which steps away from the dancefloor to bring the lyrical content into sharper focus

all tracks reared in captivity and released into the wild by matt rivem at a secret location in the east midlands. from the woods of the east midlands - the goshawk arises with three slices of organically crafted - deep, underground house music. it was the epitome of a perfect match for us at kolour ltd and were pleased to finally let this bird loose.

leftback present their 4th release of the year by welcoming original material from och, kashawar & matt star alongside a new collaborative track from label owners michael mclardy & dudley strangeways. the ep offers a diverse selection of deep cuts from the spacey and dubbed out through to minimal techno and will appeal to new fans aswell as those already following the first year of leftback.

having established deepsystems as a radio show some years back, matt pond (one third of the bittersuite collective) has decided to launch a record label under the same name. given his contacts, it s a smart move. two close pals - bittersuite member jon gray and dan 1dan rodgers - join forces as tales ov rossi, laying down a slowly shifting chunk of deep, heads-down house that stretches across one side of the 12-. on the flip, gray goes solo under the bittersuite banner, delivering the two-part -familiar currents-. both versions sound heavily inspired by the dense percussion, expansive musicality and rich soundscapes of ron trent.

with this first ep, s.o.n.s pays homage to the early age of electronic dance music, when techno, house and trance were friendly to each other, when tracks were full of deepness and harmonics, when drums were crazy and raw, when techno was soulful. yeah, this is all about this ep, some soulful deep techno excursions. while the a1 is an after-hours emotional weapon freely inspired by an obscure m. goddard production some will recognize, the a2 is a more straight forward electro track with dark vocals and rising chords, as they made it in detroit back in the days. on the other side of the record is a techno journey through a rainforest with pan flute, deep chords and old school bassline. plus there is a little bonus locked groove: a mere 4/4 tr909 bass drum s.o.n.s personally uses in their crazy obscure techno mixes. turquoise vinyl + foil sticker on cover, limited to 200 copies. mastered by matt colton (l.i.e.s, apron…)
