mr. statik with previous contributions from joe claussell, move d, mr. ties, reagenz, discrete circuit and their very own away soundsystem, the berlin label away achieved a great deal of attention since its first release back in 2015. after having played at their infamous party series before, the greek all-rounder mr. statik now also debuts as a producer on away. as emphasized with releases on such labels as bpitch control, amam, or rotary cocktail, the resident of athens club six d.o.g.s draws inspiration from pop culture like science-fiction movies as well as comic books, also reflected in his rogue cherub ep. info rogue cherub ep its an open secret that mr. statik has a strong penchant for working with vocalists, and the title track is no different. starting off with an ingenious medley assembled through samples, rhythmic elements, and a funk-infused bass-line, rogue cherub ep highlights the greeks unordinary approach on house music. despite the partly broken, partly playful vibe its dave ajus distinctive voice holding everything together in a serene fashion. no less than the acknowledged master matthew herbert himself scales the hybrid down, attaching just the right disco-house touches to create yet another dance floor gem. morning star on the flipside tops off aways fifth catalogue number by a well-crafted techno-meets-dub workout unfolding mr. statiks versatile core strengths as a producer.

hot on the heals of phil kieran s first blinded by the sun album remix project which featured roman flügel and andrew weatherall remixes, hot creations return with a second remix package. mano le tough, matthew herbert and david holmes all contribute to create a set of flawless cuts and a superb second remix package.
david holmes under his unloved alias concludes the package with a cinematic remix of think too much, overflowing with emotion, it makes the perfect conclusion to a stellar release. also from belfast, holmes has been composing music for over two decades, winning his second ivor novello award in 2016.

dam swindle cap off a blazing summer as they return home to their own heist recordings and in doing so present a landmark 12inch to add to their blooming catalogue. this is their first addition to the label since the hugely successful in reverse ep and it comes as a package that fans both old and new will relish: a jubilant record melding the most groove­laden strands of disco, funk, soul and house.

*the shakes* is matthew herberts first album under the name herbert since 2006s dark orchestral disco fantasy *scale* (k7!). the album deals with intensely personal issues such as raising young children against a backdrop of an increasingly unstable world and, amongst other things, utilizes the sound of used bullets and shells from ebay as part of its soundscape. herbert himself suggests that the record can be seen as a treatise on how *music helps to motivate, provide respite and divert us from the challenges of the everyday* and that it is *electronic music for the soul*.
the double vinyl lp comes in gatefold sleeve and includes a download code for the full album plus 4 bonus mixes.

last year accidental records released herbert complete, a 130- track boxset featuring herberts entire extensive back catalogue. it included rare and unreleased tracks from the mid 90s right up to the critically acclaimed bodily functions and scale albums. though this might have felt like the closing of the doors for matthew herberts house moniker, particularly with the ever forward-thinking producer having moved onto making music out of an exploding bomb, a shopping list, a club and even a pig, this thankfully is not the end for this side of the prolific composers output. following last months release of the 4-track ep part 6 comes the unsurprisingly titled part 7.

chmara is an artist better known for the duet chmara winter, which created a number of releases for pets recordings. currently he is producing by himself and joining forces with otake records. *spring* has its unique position in the catalog of young label from warsaw. the vinyl is original, surprising, flourishing and simply beautiful. some herberts or dj koze inspirations can be felt, however, a solid character of these tracks gives a clear understanding that chmara has his unrepeatable unique style that can not be faked. lyrics, wonderful chmaras timbre plus accompanying female vocals give an image of surreal order. it is a beautiful, harmonious hallucination caused by nothing but music. the record also contains two remixes from slg and piotr bejnar - the owner of otake records.

this latest 12 comes courtesy of phil mison & pete herberts much lauded reverso 68 project. baa boo is exactly the kind of blissfully dreamy groove we have come to expect from this accomplished production duo, musical, melodic and tailormade for sunnier climes. on the flip we have piano 89, pretty self explanatory really, but for the benefit of those not pushing 40, its an old school house jam, drenched in the kind of italo piano hook that used to ignite late 80s dancefloors and is destined to do the same some 20 years on - magical.
