the first release on phonica white limited series is from tokyos iori. this young producers impressive work ranges from woozy ambient electronics to full-on club tracks. the common thread is a highly developed sense of texture and arrangement.a-side galaxy is simply lean, expertly crafted techno, led by a rolling bassline and crisp hi-hats, with hypnotic melody patterns skittering off the surface. its a trippy but accessible heads-down affair that has the depth and the bite to do damage at peak-time and in the after-hours alike. urge on the flipside is an even deeper, sub-heavy cut, an insistent, club-friendly groove swathed in burbling synth arpeggios and fx. despite being stripped-back, the sound design and sheer warmth of the production is incredible. the track really breathes.

with smashing contributions by electro lord legowelt from dirty brown the hague and bleep addict garçon taupe from the bourgeois slums of amsterdam, narrominded presents the fourth installment in its renowned split lp series. both sides of this split lp comprise a whole ep in length, and the contributions have in common that they are both deeply rooted in electro music.
on garçon taupes wittenburg ep, eighties infected drum computer beats and heavy bass lines pave the way for some rather cheerful and unpretentious melodies. the five tracks were mixed to tape at rude 66s triple six lounge studio, and reveal influences from electronic pioneers like yellow magic orchestra and mantronix, to todays acid freaks like luke vibert and like a tim. the end result is a catchy mixture of electro and acid.

yore returns with a true dream team split ep, pairing yore label head andy vaz with sistrum manager patrice scott. vaz is up first with a beautiful slice of old-school funk and soul within a deep house formula, >back to square one< that has a whole lot more in common with isaac hayes and james brown than with juan atkins or any other techno icon. accompanied by a wah-wah guitar figure and claps, a bullet-proof bass line leads a nine-minute charge thats quickly bolstered by a slinkily swinging drum groove. creamy synth chords and blazing horns intermittently spill over the pulsating mix and then vanish, leaving space for the rhythm to intensify and the track to grow ever more euphoric (and even, towards its close, a bit acidy). a true mission into both funk and house, which again showcases vazs ultimate diversity as an outstanding producer. scott titled his second sistrum release beyond deep and the title might just as easily apply to the b-side >aztecal< where the detroit producer slathers shimmering stabs and congealing streams over a thudding kick drum and flickering percussive detail. while vazs cut draws inspiration from the timeless traditions of decades past, scotts looks towards the future when its gleaming shuttle lifts off in pursuit of distant galaxies.

bastian heerhorst and patrick meissner from hamburg, first met each other in the end of the 90s by their common love for graffiti. inspired by the hamburg night live, they decided very soon to work creatively together, also for their music productions. because of bastians long time experience in electronic music and the revolutionary development of the virtual instruments, the two guys were fast able to obtain quite dancable results, also with a small budget. begun with the rather modest possibilities of a 4-tracker on the amiga and the first live-acts with a groovebox, bastians liking to produce and to experiment with all possible styles grew. since also patrick came in contact with electronic music in hamburg s scene already early, it was somehow predetermined that in the future not only walls, but also dancefloors gonna be rocked. the project >heerhorst & meissner< was born and with kompass musik a label was found, which was courageous enough to publish the first tracks of duo…
