ondon-based duo jamka return with inter alia, the latest evidence of their patient, intimate relationship with their analogue machines. from the start there’s a sense of event – we encounter clear, interlaced electronic textures, powerful analogue drones and well-placed beats. the tracks aren’t soundscapes so much as fertile electronic soundfields. patemp continuously expands in an incredibly subtle but powerful way and shows that jamka’s technical skills don’t preclude an emotional touch. on the tight and minimal anazmo, the coiled energy bears traces of minimal techno and radical electronica, but it’s beyond either of these. while the album passes quickly, it’s full of detail and the thoughtfulness and craft that have gone into it are evident. dwa offers the chance to appreciate the flow and the sheen of its analogue textures – the modernist romance of the power line hum and its promise of technological-cultural progress. jamka are known for their dynamic live performances and this energy is almost tangible on derazor. the stately igora is a strong, bold close to the album, offering surprises right till the end. the sharp, metallic details ripple through the mix and an anthemic sequence shines through. inter alia makes clear that jamka are worthy inheritors of slovakia’s proud late modernist traditions of radical architecture and electronic music. this is a work of craft that demands respect and repeated listening.

san fran-based artist, tape_hiss releases his second ep on love notes and you can clearly hear both his sound and the label s maturing in tandem. moving on from the depth of his first record, love is a dog from hell, tape_hiss takes things into headier waters, going heavy on the acid and the rugged basslines on this 4 track ep. angelian war storm begins in exactly that fashion, with 303s squelching and bassbins rattling. this continues through the clear standout trackout, the vivian girls. the gears shift a bit on the b1 where sistrum boss, patrice scott is allowed to rework the vivian girls and does so in a warbly, dirty jazz fashion. tape_hiss then closes things out with the title track, realms of the unreal, which uses an appropriate sample annoucing, “this is me, yo. right here”, and it does very much sound to us like this budding artist is annoucing himself to the world in a most proper fashion. we can’t wait to hear what comes next from both artist and label.

why making a techno record in 2016? in the vast stream of new releases and the everlasting quest of new musical boundaries, blint002 tries to focus on the essentials of pattern-based clubmusic. both tracks started as late night studio jams, using only a drummaschine, a synth and some pedals. while 92 avenue ended up being a straightfoward technotrack, including a massive breakdown for everybody still awake and dancing, you have i dont have is incorporating some boomy hiphop aesthetic without loosing its connection to the dancefloor. both tracks are linked by their unresting synthlines, straying around, trapped in a noisey room full of smoke and distortion. bouncing back to the inital question, the answer with this record seems pretty clear: techno is still nothing but pure dark fun.

yoruba records is proud to present this new album by label veterans nomumbah. hailing from sao paulo, this three piece consists of andré torquato, ale reis and rafael moraes. with this release, nomumbah show a great deal of maturity, a mark often only surpassed with the release of a sophomore album. the track ‘words’ will strike a familiar chord with listeners, its clever use of maya angelou’s reading of her timeless ‘still i rise’ fits perfectly over the top of a deep bass and bongo driven groove. ‘meinhaus’ is another beautifully crafted track, one that seemingly pays tribute to chicago’s earliest fathers of deep house while still keeping a certain swing that will set it apart on dance floors today. ‘precious’, a definite future favourite, features a cutting lead synth that adds warmth to the track and is accompanied by crystal clear hi-hat bursts and a simple, yet captivating, vocal. this album’s title track, ‘amanha’, edges on tech house with stripped down percussion, a simple rolling bass line and a pulsing lead synth, perfect for setting a more chilled-out vibe. a deep and at times techy release, djs will find all 10 tracks well suited for the late night into early morning hours. featuring rhythmic, chunky bass lines, ambient keys and radiant backing vocals this soon-to-be yoruba classic is a must have for your kit bag in 2016

alessandro diga, a young talented dutch artist, delivers 3 solid techno tracks for the fifth release on the bergwacht record label. “phaedra” starts with a great bassline and goes into a warm melodic techno track with a lot of emotions, dreamy synths and it goes along with a clear hihat. the track is able to be dreamy and not cheesy at the same time. “sonora” is grounded on a rolling bassline and clear hi-hats as well, it goes over in nice effects with outstanding breaks, but it finds back to the starting rhythms. “dahlia” the hidden b-2 track transmits a deep journey with melancholic feelings.

the second release on the vinyl only series of apes go bananas finally drops. the label is the new imprint from steve bug and clé, who together make up the production team for the releases. as with the well-received first ep, all we have is straight-up, no-nonsense, dance floor-filling house tracks. lead cut ‘all we have settles right into the groove with crisp and funky percussion, chi-town chords and amazing vocal samples. its got peak time written all over it. she cargo makes its influences pretty clear via the title, and the track certainly references some of the iconic sounds of the home of house. thick, rubbery bass lines, squiggly synths and firing percussion combine to deliver a suitable a homage to the windy city. ‘ape parade is built from some similar materials, but the chords are a little more lush and deep - synth strings and keys add a sense of the epic, and everything is tied together with a sick kick / snare / hat pattern. three modern killers for the floor, infused with the spirit of classic house.

one sided vinyl with silkscreened b side, comes in clear sleeve with poster numbered, edition of 350 dreams really come true: when we heard tomemitsu s beautiful lo-fi indie songs on the cassette -m_o_d_e_s- back in 2013 we fell in love! especially the track -in dreams- followed us around for months. humming it in the subway, singing along in the car. many dreams later we found out that our friend and fellow hamburger stefan marx also loves the song and even named an art show after it. coincidence? surely not, so together we made the plan to release -in dreams- on vinyl. luckily tomemitsu himself was very happy with the idea and even allowed rss disco to remix the song. the notorious dj and production trio upped the tempo to head-spinning 99bpm, recorded additional drums & bass and added several minutes of pleasure. finally, the two tracks will be released on vinyl for the first time. screen-printed records, including a poster in a clear sleeve. music by tomemitsu, designed by stefan marx, remixed by rss disco, released by mireia records. it s all a dream!

crossing returns with cracking and dreamy techno from pfirter, avion, doka and stefan rein. the label from avion strikes with its 7th installment releasing a package of 4 new techno slices from different producers showing what crossing stands for. the release starts with ‘sut‘ a track from the argentinian producer pfirter which creates an outer atmosphere with its pad, surrounding percussions and space running frequencies carried by this straight deep bass drum. a beauty. avion doesn’t take any captives and kicks the floor with a never ending trip of industrial percussions, noises, a heavy drum and a groove that will grab and never leave you. an explosive killer. for doka time is running in a different way. his ‘mural‘ comes with a melancholic bassline and rhythmic drum work to bring this imaginery painting from the wall into notes. surreal but true techno. stefan rein is closing the release with a bang. the ‘amorphous material‘ will never get tired and brings with metallic snares, hats and rides a kick’in weapon which includes a synth pad that will give you a smile in every moment you hear it. a clear definition of techno and its madness.

jonas friedlich, better known through mistress recordings and carl gari, releases his first solo 12- on molten moods. the versatile 4 track ep starts with the rather straight -bo s breakfast- that begins with a polyrhythmic 303 bass line leading into a catchy garage-ish chorus, kicking in out of a clear sky but fittingly. -bus driver- is a wicked trip, the combination of the long acid build up and a nicely chopped vocal bit is irresistible. a proven, tested (and molten moods certified) club banger, regardless of its rather untypical breakbeat. track number 3 called -praise your name- aces groove through perfectly cut vocal samples and a fancy reference to 90s hip hop and drum n bass aesthetics. the next and last piece on the record is the eponymous -deskjet-, which is inspired by friedlichs conceptual sound art installations using printers. here rather restrained synthie lines are underpinned by a powerful kick and psychedelic tape delay noises. the 12- vinyl is handstamped on both sides. mastered and cut by scape mastering. artwork by paul bernhard.
