paula temple joins the r&s fold as the first female solo artist to be signed in the labels 30 years history. her first release speck of the future was way back in 2002 and gained her the support of jeff mills, claude young, dave clarke and the late john peel amongst others. after co-developing one of the first midi controllers for dj/live performance and teaching kids in her neighbourhood how to dj, paula temple finally returns to her first love - techno music.

>impolite to refuse< by claude young remade and remixed by santiago salazar and esteban adame as ican. originally released in 1996, >impolite to refuse< immediately inspired the future members of ican. it had that detroit techno soul with latinized bass and percussion, even before knights of the jaguar, claude youngs masterpiece had won us over. also included on this release are two new versions of >impolite to refuse<. esteban adame and santiago salazar did their homework to recreate the strings, bass and then added their own inspired twists for the ican remake. esteban adame slows it down to 118 bpm for a latin funk jam on his deep mix.

fresh from his triumphant return to detroits movement festival, where by all accounts he delivered the set of the weekend, claude young teams up with his different world co-hort takasi nakajima for their debut release on art. the original is no-nonsense but thoughtful future-tech, with plenty of analog modulations for the heads - and dance-floor thump for the party people. on the flip, the legendary ian o brien delivers a typically deep, detroit tinged remix with trademark warm bass and glistening top lines. ian planned to do one more mix-down of his remix when the huge earthquake earlier this year pretty much demolished his tokyo-based studio.

five dazzling remixes of population one s classic hippnotic culture lp by the detroit minimalist himself. kicking off with a 20th anniversary mix of rush hour, the track that inspired our company name! big big tip and a great honor.play it loud!objekt: these are wonderful. no surprise though- population one, also known as terrence dixon, offered a first remix of his mysterious, minimal detroit track rush hour for the celebration of the label s 10th anniversary and now blesses us with new takes on five hippnotic culture album tracks. the impressive hippnotic culture lp was originally released in 1995 on the long defunct utensil label, which was run by claude young.

the first release from the label bm founded by takasi nakajima who is known by the release from indigo area and the activity of different world with claude young. the ep conpiles the tracks from takuya matsumoto who is known by the release from royal oak, fina, cosmic blue, meda fury and r&s.

funkadelic have created an enduring legacy, and the power of their impact is visceral in detroit. their records not only played with genre, but possessed a diabolical sense of humour that led to music domination by the late 70s with parliament, funkadelic, parlet, bootsy’s rubber band and the brides of funkenstein all releasing albums the same year for two years in a row. the music itself is beyond stereotype, but equally huge is that they were a black band not allowing themselves to be limited by anyone else’s notions of who they could be, having a massive impact on the next generation of detroit music, detroit techno. but more than just techno, it is a freedom of thinking that extends beyond boxes, so we included all sorts of today s generation of detroit musicians and producers to show the wide range of music that was funkadelic and how these ideas are still contemporary, they endure and inspire.

van bonn returns after his release maserung on telrae in april 2011. van bonn has been in the studio a lot since then and has worked on a number of tracks that are highlighted here. onwards i is an excursion into sound. it starts with sounds that interact in a subtle way but then as if by magic, suddenly it rises to a much higher energy level, almost pulling you by the hair. chords now kick in with the full force of brutality, like the strikes of london’s big ben and then you’d think the track will just burst. van bonn makes another turn before he lets the drums break loose. it seems as if van bonn is taming the brutality and direction of his electronic machines. abstract now meets the concrete and whoever wins the fight is up to the listener to decide. the first remix comes by raffaele attanasio who has had considerable success with der pianist and i m a jazzman and has collaborated with trapez ltd artist mihalis safras, a. trebor (trapez), as well as claude young, nic fanciulli and has shown his versatility throughout the last 3 years. juan atkins recently featured raffaele attanasio remix of no mans land by a. trebor in his charts.his remix for van bonn keeps up a strong beat programming right from the beginning. a beat monster so to speak is alive from the beginning and kicking. the track is written in a style that shows expansion and contraction and through that shows an organic breathing quality.
