it s with great excitement that we present luca affatatos very first opus dedicated entirely to chairs, one of humanity s most groundbreaking inventions. affatato, otherwise known as bop, has been mastering the art of sitting since 1976. while we have yet to truly understand the musical preferences of such notorious objects ourselves, luca seems to know. melding post-punk, minimal wave, melvins, mike patton and boards of canada all into one big hissy, distorted mess, music for chairs is sure to please sitting tools worldwide.

one of the uks most established and consistent deep house producers, jimpster, is due to drop his eagerly anticipated porchlight and rockingchairs lp. his first studio album in six years sees him continue where he left off on the 2006 masterpiece amour by taking the blueprint of house music and infusing it with an attention to detail and musicality often lacking in much of todays more disposable dance music. during the interim period, jamie has maintained a key role in two of the uks most successful house labels, freerange and delusions of grandeur, where he continues to pick up and establish new talent at an impressive rate. over the course of his 23 year career so far he has remixed everyone from josh wink, osunlade and solomun through to bob marley, airto moreira and seal, as well as continuing to dj week-in week-out at many of the worlds best clubs and festivals.

xen & yovav return to malka tuti in 2018 with full thrust and eyes to the future. after being responsible for the first 2 releases on the label, this time the enigmatic singer and the influential producer collaborate and deliver 2 original songs. hayom etmol is a 100% good vibe diy post-punkish poppy song with a flowing synthetic bass line, balearic guitar riffs and dreamy vocals. the b-side, shavit, is a vocal led song, with a repetitive guitar bassline and, trip guitar riffs and a minimalistic drum machine. low fi in its production shavit feels as if it has been dug out of an abandoned 80s record store in the outskirts of glasgow or amsterdam, with a strong cold wave feel to it. this 7” will be the first in a series of more diy approach to electronic music, song writing and production. some exciting names on the bill so hold on to your chairs... hayom etmol’s artwork design was made as always by morey talmor, with a printed inner sleeve designed by the israeli artist kobi swissa and a special silkscreened outer pvc sleeve.

munk is the project of gomma label founder mathias modica (germanys most interesting electronic music label the nme). munk is best known for his collaborations with rebolledo from pachanga boys (surf smurf), james murphy lcd soundsystem (kick out the chairs), asia argento (live fast die old) and club hits like down in l.a. and la musica. he co- produced the albums of gomma bands whomadewho and moullinex.

after several months of -silence-, downbeat is here again. the 3 chairs member, marcellus pittman is the man responsible for -do you like music ep-. -our time is now- and -extra credit-, are two detroit-flavoured house tracks with sequences coming from mars and melancholic keys with the unmistakable marcellus pittman mood. the release is closed by -happy to be here-, a gloomy downbeat-hip hop track made with mpc.

rising concern dan shake has achieved what no other has in over a decade: with his debut release in the music world, he has become the very first producer without a detroit heritage or residency to land a release on moodymanns prestigious record label mahogani music. based in london, the former leeds student secured the feat in a charmingly anachronistic fashion: having just watched kenny dixon jr perform alongside the 3 chairs at dimensions festival, dan simply handed over a demo cd with a collection of unreleased tracks. moodymann was hooked almost instantantly, taking the first plunge on welcoming an outsider into his tight-knit crew of detroit strong artists. citing influence from the layered percussive rhythms of afrobeat pioneers such as tony allen and fela kuti, the soul-drenched sampling of j dilla and the kind of dark, dense grooves laid out by contemporary producers such as flying lotus and motor city drum ensemble, dans situation in winding up on a label renowned for encompassing all those traits is obviously a blessing for the young producer.

3 chairs, omar s and patrice scott. this limited ep is testament to the wild basement energy that has culminated from these nights, beautifully pressed on wax for this first ever vinyl outing. remember is a swinging downbeat vocal track based around a superb vocal improvisation from newcomer chris raine. an ambitious opener, this is fine uk hip soul with warehouse dancefloor swagger to boot. next track, the benji b endorsed cookie strips the vocals right down into a swirling motif of sunrise energy. this track sounds great on the radio, but will also find favour on the more discerning soulful floors. for a contrast flip over for the kraftwerkian micro-tech of contact to hear what a werk party sounds like at a hazy-eyed 3am and finally, as if all this wasnt enough check out the dubby, spaced-out brawn of u&me which sees second outing for vocalist chris.... on this ep which rounds things off nicely. for fans of firecracker, exit records and prime numbers, this exciting and multi-faceted ep marries uk and detroit influences with consumate ease. one to watch... plays/ supported by benji b, rahaan, kev beadle, burnski, kevin reynolds etc.

rs006 >mellow drama ep< features a pair of up-&-coming duo acts, suburb from hamburg and a pair of greek artists known as moshi moshi. the remixers on this project are tristen, a white label artist who currently runs aim vinyl (berlin), and the one and only rick (the godson) wilhite of 3 chairs, detroit. this release is vinyl only and we hope you enjoy it.

dope me / does caroline know? is a slightly clubbier affair-less sun ra and more soul capsule-but still possesses the air of strangeness that makes the duo so unique. each artist leaves his mark within the first few measure of dope me. the steady high-hats and flawless kick drum are straight out of dazes playbook, while the nervous piano and 3 chairs-style claps are unmistakably bruno. as for the slurred vocal pleading >dope me..dope me<, thats anyones guess. the track carries on for a solid nine minutes as half-melodies and quasi-hooks slide in and out of the mix. the b-side, does caroline know?, takes us deeper and darker. the drums are plodding, the mood is ominous, and a series of dreamlike flourishes add to an already eerie groove. like the a-side, its a surrealistic style of house that only these two could deliver. the artwork, as usual, is done by daze maxim.

as we all know, there is a first time for everything. in this case, its even a debut for both: the tensnake co-run label mirau and iron curtis.
