land of the drums ist eine einzigartige mischung aus natürlichen tiergeräuschen im rhythmus und einem treibenden dance percussion beat. der produzent neftali santiago (ehemaliger drummer von mandrill) war 1980 ein sample-pionier. alle tiergeräusche wurden mit einem melotron (erster sampler mit analogen tapeloops) eingespielt. die single war nur als promo erhältlich und erregte in holland viel aufmerksamkeit, z.b. als radiosong in der legendären radiosendung soul show mit ferry maat. die promo-exemplare werden wegen der sammelleidenschaft der djs für bis zu 85 dollar pro stück verkauft. heutzutage gibt es immer noch eine nachfrage nach der platte.

(180 gram vinyl lp) far out recordings proudly presents the 1975 self-titled debut album from brazilian vocalist and bossa nova luminary emilio santiago. one of his best know is album opener bananeira, a party-starting version of the song originally written by joao donato and gilberto gil. brother is a smooth-grooving killer with great horn arrangements and a huge backing choir, while la mulata is a soulful, swinging salsa stepper.

side by side, blond:ish, crudito sava and santiago franch accompany santiago garcia on exit strategy s new -serenata ep-. three varying tracks, swinging from sun-kissed yoruba vocals to hypnotic whirrs with layers of low-lying bass.

a song dedicated to his wife and their marriage. the song contains so much captured emotions. from shimmering synths and old school orchestra hits to a solid walking bass line that solidifies the love for the dance floor. on the dub mix, santiago stripped the track down for a big sound system leaving a heavy bass line and strings throughout the track. esteban adame presents guaguanco. i wrote this track while playing with g2g and mike banks was always pushing us to electrify your roots. though my family is not cuban, cuban music has been a huge part of my musical development as a musician. the track uses traditional cuban rumba rhythms (guaguanco) to trigger synths and percussion samples alike to create a dense polyrhythmic cushion for the track to sit on.

legendary los hermanos member santiago salazar’s album ‘aspirations for young xol’ is given a vinyl release courtesy of rekids. a heartfelt dedication to his son isaias, ‘aspirations for young xol’ takes us through the life of a pillar in the electronic music community - santiago salazar. from his formative years spent in california to his connection with detroit and the passing of a childhood friend, the long-player’s tracks signpost the musician’s significant experiences, both positive and negative. this meaningful body of work was released digitally on pastel voids and now rekids release the album on wax. ‘saturated fear’ sets a deep tone for the lp, flanging melodies and echoing claps float through the composition before the album’s title track ‘aspirations for young xol’ offers haunting arpeggios with occasional acidic overtones which are cleverly offset by beautifully designed lead synth transitions. ‘bloodlines’ follows a similar musical vein with delayed bass riffs that are suspended above shimmering hihats and a weighted kick. santiago provides three beatless pieces throughout, which digress into more emotional territory whilst offering brief respite from his heavier drum work. ‘xol’s pain’ combines orchestral strings and swelling synthesisers which build tension with a subtly complex, evolving motif. both ‘dark matter’ and ‘ode to stinson’ use arresting atmospheres, warped arpeggios and ethereal pads which lull the listener into a retrospective mood. an intensity builds in the later tracks, a gritty but powerful low end provides a solid foundation in ‘orange blossom thump”, eventually making way for a hectic and elastic lead synth before ‘pachuco dub’ displays drones that build a dissonant pressure in which the complex tom rhythms and rolling hi hats can grow. ‘sarah rivera’ hypnotises with its delectable chord progressions and complimentary melodies which seem to float above a rigid drum composition to close the album with style

following the release of the homemade waves ep in 2015, the room below returns to don t be afraid with his second ep for the label. the title healing scaphoids reflects on the period of time he spent constructing the tracks, during which he suffered two separate broken wrists whilst cycling around london. one right, one left. both time, the scaphoid bone! unfortunately, only one of the wrists healed properly and the ep retains a slightly broken feel, steering away from four-to-the-floor territory, and with london as a clear sonic influence. 2017 has been a productive year for henry keen aka the room below. as soundspecies, alongside brother olly, he released a collaborative album with afro-cuban percussion group ache meyi, performing live at the barbican in may to follow the previous year s appearance at the manana cuba festival in santiago de cuba.. henry also has a solo ep forthcoming on rising new york label maddjazz, due for release in mid september.

santiago leyba makes his vinyl debut on the label following the rooms tape released earlier this year. recorded simultaneously, life, money, work shows the new york-based artist by way of albuquerque, new mexico, portraying the different characters one might have in a broken mind. sketching a strong criticism of america by means of disorienting vocals and slow-paced d.i.y. electronics, santiago finds him performing alter-egos of sorts — ranging from forlorn ballad singing, to more guttural and strained barking seeking to describe a conflict in maintaining a unified persona. paid labor, sex, and consumer goods. how america tells you to grow up when there is nothing left but complacency and oppression through economic and social means. it all goes down to the shortcomings of humanity, the tangled webs we weave, the impossibility of justice and fairness, and the pressure those things put upon ourselves.

the always innovative and underground label that is catch recordings is back with release number eight, and once again it is a compelling offering featuring four tracks from doubtingthomas.

gari romalis keeps on surprising us all, with his amazing ability to produce solid chicago laced beats, full of groove and brimming with soul. so far his music has been released on some highly respected underground imprints, such as rawax, rue de plaisance and bosconi records amongst a long list of others we couldn t be happier to have gari joining us on our vinyl catalogue, plus, along side him for remix duties, esteban adame, half of the renowned los hermanos. esteban is a key member on the ur crew and has been also releasing incredible music on labels such as underground quality, or his own ican productions, which he runs in collaboration with santiago salazar.

pablo marco comes back to the label pushing out >crossing the river ep< as the seventh reference of lths catalogue. the artwork was painted by the young maestro from colombia, santiago ayerbe. all 4 tracks have been played over and over and they work for the dancefloor everytime. better to discover it by yourself.

major people is a new label from santiago salazar. the debut track *new beginnings* is more of a theme song for salazar as he introduces the major people label. modulating synthes can be heard throughout the track and the catchy bassline will warm any dance floor.
*technik* is a slice of sleek, contemplative techno that is far out on a late-night tip, leaving only a bouncing bassline and skipping tech-house beat to hold down the groove amongst the tune’s more ethereal sounds. on the remix, chicagos defend:r (ricardo mirandas alter-ego) takes apart the original to form a hybrid electro style remix laced with sub bass grooves and just the right amount of synths to take it to the next level.
