moscow label grow continues in fine creative form, seemingly not sticking to a motive or trend but rather concentrating on the strength of character within the music it releases. for the labels eighth release the artist is berlin based the marx trukker, who over the last 10 years has been developing his very distinct sound and recent output on labels like pluie/noir, the untold stories, and most recently noorden, have all been especially impressive. now on grow comes the 4 track vinyl * heavens crackling*, from the title one is expecting something awesome, and the album does not disappoint, right from the off, the first track: * a time well spent*, begins with celestial tones ringing out and the performance develops with great synth work, enlightened and very enlivening, spring is in step and something is beginning. the record continues at such a level throughout, overflowing with rich tones, warmth, and raw sounding percussion. in the second track, * all the boating still a tide to go*, deep warm bass and strings reverberate, as if amidst a hot harbours summer, then the ethereal synths return as magical breezes of cooling wind on a june day. on the bside comes the title track * heavens crackling*, the tone has cooled, there is an autumnal vibe, extended tones of an eerie but reassuring nature provide the ground, from under which a molten bass flows playfully. the final track, * i do anything but its so cold*, as the title would suggest, again time has passed, gone are the warm relaxed echoes of the the opening tracks, winter has come, and a strong percussive energy becomes the driving force of an especially deep and more introverted last track. in heavens crackling there is an uncanny understanding of time passing and representation of being, its present in the patience and performance within every track, and the effect of the album, which seems, like the seasons, to naturally come full circle, is for the listener indeed to experience a time well spent. top marks for the marx trukker!

over the course of six self-recorded and mostly self-released lps, alex g has built a body of work unassuming in its presentation but astounding in its depth. beach music, his seventh full-length and his debut with domino, was written and recorded in giannascoli’s apartment between the fall of 2014 and the spring of 2015, during breaks from touring with the likes of elvis depressedly, cymbals eat guitars, and gardens & villa.

drew mcdowall’s back story reads like a primer of psychedelic fiction woven into statements of the unbelievable, superhuman and outright insane. somewhere in the chaotic madness, comes an artist such as mcdowall with total control and absolute calm within his songs and artistic method.
dais records approached drew to solidify his standing as a leading electronic musician with the recording of new material neatly wrapped up in his debut album entitled “collapse”. recorded in 2015 in brooklyn, ny, mcdowall’s synonymous modular synthesizer compositions are augmented by obtuse sampling cut-ups and contributions from nicky mao (hiro kone / effi briest) rounding out the lumbering sequential knot work that has become synonymous with mcdowall and craft.

dead fader returns with new ep sun copter, which precedes a forthcoming full length album. *sun copter* introduces a new sound as dead fader s pallet gains new range and depths, using analogue technologies in conjunction with the digital techniques he is well known for. dead fader is the alter ego of john cohen, former brighton resident, now in berlin, who has worked relentlessly since 2007 to realise his vision of electronic music. his tracks are characterised by pioneering sound explorations, which on one hand oscillate between sonic extremities and on the other hand carefully craft cinema-scope sound worlds. the vinyl release includes a downloadcode.

hell yeah recordings are pleased to present a brand new 12inch by giorgio giri and marco lentano aka mushrooms project, a dj and production duo that has been turning out great 12inches and one full length since 2009 for labels like leng, is it balearic? uber.

keeping the concept of a tight knit family of artists, up next on sol asylum is the follow up ep for the dilated pupils titled introducing remi. this collective of likeminded artists from the netherlands return to the label with a solid four-track ep that shows their range and diversity as producers. moving full speed ahead we start off with “remi at 21.16” a track that instantly hypnotizes you on the dance floor with its echoing harmonic synths and a complex metallic snare pattern. the track is a slow burner that explodes when the dirty analog kick, swinging bassline, and filtered percussion melt into an atomic fusion. next we take it to the next level with “do” its underwater bubbling percussion, bleeping stabs and eerie synth take us to the far off corners of space with just enough acid to keep our heads down and grooving to the strobe light in a dark room. as we move into fall with “october times” a tightly woven groove and galloping kicks push us into more experimental territory with soaring vintage synths that create tension and finesse at the same time. finally we finishing things off with the esoteric vibes of “suque” this deep and dirty track channels the positive force from another realm, which is the perfect match for the inspiriting concept of sol asylum.
