london based welshman chamboche returns to the label that launched him with the smoke screen ep. his unquantifiable sound swerves genre classification, hovering around house but with enough musicality to please the hardened disco head. swirling pads and a bubbling bass line set down the groove, while keys fall around horns and vocals to make the lead track a refined, uplifting work out. slowly unfolding, the track is hypnotic and absorbing, showcasing the style of a producer as able to work the mind as the hips. bicep toughen up the drums and work the arpeggio, stripping down the track and bringing the chicago influence higher in the mix. while the original subtly unfolds, their remix demands attention from the outset, building to a climax then recoiling for another bite at the cherry. thinking big, krl ramps up the intensity with a bright, kinetic reworking. aimed squarely at the peak time, he harnesses all of smoke screens most propulsive elements to really work the floor. tucked away on the b side is the expansive mind your mind. trademark chamboche percussion is woven around a blissful riff, swelling majestically to round off the ep in slo(w) burning euphoria.

frisbee is in orbit again. it just landed to bring three individual magic people together. dea with his casual nature and gift to hear out the unique. albion with his intention to find all mindriving sounds in this galaxy and spacelex with the vision of all people dancing together to the sound which is around us. anybody have his own understanding of music but there is one way we ride together. on this way we found out what to do. releasing obscure electronic disco from 1977 to 1980 with the special touch of virginity. the emotion and the power these tracks have, is indescribable. now its time to jump on the frisbee and slide through the universe
aura go rises, opens, rouses not unlike a soft light growing to illumination, a day slowly revealing itself. synths whisper and ring out like bells marking an early hour at the start, followed by a succession of other awakenings: a palpitating beat, vocalizations that repeat like undulations, percussive poundings and ringings. it all leads to full on, acid-infused, dance floor hypnosis, with producer dennis dj mcnany pushing polyrhythmic, almost tribal beats to the very front. with the addition of husky vocals from collaborator jee young sim imagine siouxsie sioux crossed with planningtorock the sound becomes something altogether, and altogether unexpectedly, gorgeous.

SOLAR WIND

as hot as ever the new ep from our siberian disco friends is finally landing into theomatics catalogue. the title track solar wind is a rhodes driven hands-in-the-air early night anthem: simple yet powerful, just the way we like it! the flipside features an offbeat cosmic number planetarium which sounds like a perfect soundtrack for some colourful sci-fi cartoon about the early years of space exploration, with all those rockets, flying saucers, stars and comets with long tails. the bonus track (available as a digital download only) is named after the soviet moon exploration robot vehicle lunokhod 2 (moon walker in russian) which was sent to the moon in 1973. being rather minimalistic at the begining it slowly evolves and reaches its apogee closer to the end with calm and beautiful melody which leaves the listener in a peaceful mood

following last years acclaimed curse of soft rocks album, we are invited to revisit said masterpiece from an alternative entry a robust compilation of remixes. every track is re-contextualized so wildly that we are left with a beautifully oblique yet complimentary rendering. the personnel employed vary in style and technique drastically, but such is the ethos of soft rocks, and furthermore the esp institute. at the end of the day, we implore you to shut up and listen. on this 12 inch (the first of 4 surrounding the revenge of soft rocks remix album) we are treated with a serious disco belted version of talking jungle as reworked by justin vandervolgen (tbd, gold channel, dfa, etc, etc) and an insanely serene take on obo by esp favorite tiago (sea power & change, gala drop, dfa, etc, etc)... good lord this is quite a piece of wax
an air of mystery surrounds the artist responsible for steyoyoyokes third release, titled >shadows<. the anonymous artist, given the name soul button, takes the helms for the labels may release, and as signs of summer emerge in berlin, a three track ep comes to soak up the heat. an energetic and driving release equally fitting in a restless dance-floor or sun drenched terrace. soul button is a new artist from steyoyoke records, and we are excited to announce the artists first release on the label. with each track bringing new flavour to the ep, you may find it hard to pick a favourite.

tresor records marks its 250th release with a very special project indeed. continuing to forge ahead whilst remaining ever mindful of its legacy, tresor proudly presents infiniti - the remixes: a trilogy of classic cuts and new reworks from one of its original detroit linchpins juan atkins. dubbed as his pure techno project, atkins produced two full-length albums under the infiniti moniker-the infiniti collection, released by tresor in 1996, and skynet two years later. 16 years on and they are as relevant today as they were pioneering then, brought further up-to-date here with a series of fresh takes from some of technos pioneering and esteemed figures: thomas fehlmann, tv victor, function, redshape, sleeparchive and the re-release of dubtechno vanguard moritz von oswalds remix of >think quick<, originally released in 94 on metroplex. part two picks up the pace, heading further down the timeline with >flash flood< - originally released in 1995 as part of one of the labels famous annual compilations, re-edited by sandwell districts function. skynets punchy classic on the flip, >skyway< rounds off the ep with a killer old-school remix by technos masked crusader redshape.

the all singing black orange juice, found its sweet spot when ossie recruited two of his closest compadres, paul black and orial, partners in crime with a history of gospel choirs, r&b quartets and lending their vocals to some of londons finest underground heros. they blend the best elements from the uk undergound with a nod to the talents of roska, jamie jones, scratcha dva and mosca, and a wave to those infectious vocal-house sounds reminiscent of hercules and love affair and azari & iii. the sound is both unique and dangerously infectious

10 Inch
27.04.12
i know u combines tribal rhythms, pounding bass, insistent synth stabs, some distressed dialogue and a insanely large crash in the most maniacal way imaginable for what has to be one of the most devastating and original tunes for a very long time. sparse and spacious but yet rhythmical and energetic, lxc manages the ultimate arrangement balancing act here. the intensity increases gradually as the track progresses, culminating in an all-out tribal war ! a modern day jungle masterpiece from one of the most under-estimated producers around. on the flip, senses finally unleashes a track that decimated the very first technicality all-nighter back in 2004. 8 years later and that power is still very much in evidence! everybody want go heaven. nobody want dead taking influence from the 1990 film marked for death, senses builds a dense vibe here, thick with imminent danger. rolling drums soon give way to a energetic ride-heavy break and pounding sub-bass hits. drum rolls drop and mentasms screech before the storm begins to subside half way through. the respite is brief however and after a complete silence the track reassembles, beginning with some insane slow to fast mentasm pitching which continues as a dark, slick reece begins to build with mysterious atmospherics. the tension is cut by the return of the drums rolling along at first, before the mentasms and subs hit hard again, signaling a percussive onslaught! jungle just got catapulted into 2012.

2x12 Inch LP
27.04.12
following a busy year of stylistically varied releases under various guises on his own magic + dreams label, ralph cumbers delivers his first long-player for punch drunk. with a title lifted from the lysergic prose of a brian aldiss novel and grooves informed by the loopier, more martian aspects of chi-town jack and detroit techno-soul, >reeling skullways< marks a subtle, but highly alluring development in the evolution of cumbers primary recording project. long-term bass clef fans may be surprised by the lack of samples on this album, and in many ways it follows a similar creative process to his recent work as some truths, with most rhythms and textures sculpted from the raw, elemental waveforms of modular analogue synthesis. but with tighter editing, contagious melodies and perfectly positioned drum patterns, the end results reveal bass clef simultaneously at his most stripped-back, focused, playful, complicated, emotional and irresistibly groovy. unfettered by fashionable production tricks, imbued with a timeless machine-soul heart, >reeling skullways< is one of those albums you will be reaching for again and again.
