after the huge succes of its tenth release (davide squillace & guti), hideout is back with with the third slice of the deconstruction revisited series. this time, crocodile tears, which appeared on davide squillaces tutti frutti ep (ho003) got offered three amazing relectures. it all starts with mr robert dietz (cadenza, cecille ...), who delivers a super modern and energetic relecture, where intelligent synthetic percussions mess around with weird noises and processed effects. after two minutes a monophonic synths starts its battle with vocals from squillaces original to end up on a more minimal groove. gflame aka portugese techno start cisco ferreiras (the advent) relecture directly sets the tone: a nasty bassline with a crazy synth stab flies over a soft but very heavy techno beat, to evolve to an elegant tech house track (no bongos involved). finally sis, the man behind cocolino imprint, reinterpretation starts with a long intro with the kick dropping after more than 3 minutes. the melancholic feeling of the track builds into a very subtile beat with reverbered elements all over. the percussion layers and delicate melodic synths add some organic flavour to the music so the 14 minutes remix is never boring and takes you to a nice journey thru sounds. you can tell somebody was in love when making such a beautiful song. another must have from hideout!

a shiny picture disco for slow motion records release number 7 - disco wizard by francisco from jolly music. beamed from distant satellites via 1983 and picked up by a crack team of berlin based italian disco commandoes, the disco wizard brings to mind space, the tougher end of pre-84 italo, guys with beards and grace jones and amanda lear dancing the night away. a nagging baseline propels the track forward with alternating male and female vocals that coo and tease, whilst twinkling refrain evokes the giogio morders classic >the chase<. on the flip side the dub mix strips away most of the vocals and injects some serious strut into the beats. the rougher, tougher cousin of the original to send the boys and girls wild with cosmic desire. you have been warned.

hiding behind their three character website is a belgian duo called goldffinch whose steep vision of dancefloor techno marries loveable little phrases of awkward computer conversation with the kind of kick drums that will rattle the windows of your neighbours house when your soundsystem is tweaked perfectly. goldffinch may well be a duo bent on keeping things simple but when the end result, which is built out of such minimal layers, is so arresting, there’s no need to change the formula. not one bit.

very welcome reissue of the original sire records release of dinosaur s kiss me again from 1978. written and produced by disco legends arthur russell and nicky siano and weighing in at a heavy 13 minutes long, this is a truly hypnotic disco odyssey which takes you on a curling and tension-filled journey through funky piano riffs, signature scratchy guitar work by talking heads supremo david byrne, tumbling drums, stabbing horns and of course mr russell s swirling atmospheric cello solos. all this is held together by myriam valles beautiful yearning vocal performance until the crazy mind-blowing orgasmic final minutes where david byrne goes wild and the whole thing explodes in pure dancefloor meltdown. choose from the a-side jimmy simpson mix or dinosaur s own more stripped down, chaotic but equally compelling mix on the flip. huge in new york especially at nicky sianos own gallery nightclub, later championed by frankie knuckles in chicago and more recently chosen by twitch as the perfect record to end the very last optimo espacio, this is a true disco classic and absolutely essential in any discerning record collection.
