twins is matt weiner who is also known for his featureless ghost project and of course as the head of the dka records label… his project twins is not limited to one specific style but the dominant characteristic is the synth driven sound… other influences in the mix are various styles of dance music and a healthy dose of arty post-punk… this new mini album “rather not” is the perfect blending of all of this… due to this it is on the one hand a classic minimal elektro record but at the same time a rather modern piece of electronic music… catchy tunes and surprising twists go hand in hand and make up for an authentic and original record… which is more stunning every time you play it!

nice price deal !!! with releases on 7th sign, persistencebit and self defence to his credit, belgian dj/producer franco cangelli returns to his own mowar label for this killer four-track ep. inspired by classic techno and contemporary machinations in equal measure, cangellis palette is varied but sophisticated. >pressure< kick starts the ep in dubby mode, but the fat beats and spooky riffs are soon joined by a warm, sublime chord sequence. >frantic<, as the title suggests, picks up the pace, with a slamming, slightly off-rhythm underpinning wired analogue bleeps. thanks to cangellis smooth production touch, it manages to sound both timeless and modern. on the other hand, >fringe< and >deviate< make no secret about their influences. the latter deploys raw, crunchy beats and a shuffling groove as the basis for a sensuous chord sequence, while >fringe< is even more reverent. gently filtered bleeps and tones cascade over tight claps and an insistent, jerky rhythm that recalls stasis and derrick may. dont miss out on this future-retro gem

serbian label disco fruit continues its successful of 12inches right up to the end of 2016 with another slice of feel-good party business from label boss tonbe. i m the one-is a bright and breezy slice of funky house lashed with diva vocal turns that tap into the same vein as futureboogie and other such esteemed labels. alkalino meanwhile simmers the track down to a lean club-ready jam before feel the night on the flip heads straight to the philly strings for its own clean and punchy reverie. dig it rounds the ep off with a slightly slower groove peppered with yet more classic disco signifiers.

quality house label fina records are back with their next carefully curated ep of 2016. this one comes from the choice house duo of rob glassett and sam fussell aka homepark, who serve up four more of their finely crafted cuts. over the last six years, homepark have slowly but surely built up a classy discography that takes in smooth and seductive deep house that has real drive. it has come on labels like ornate music and chez damiers courtesy of balance recordings, and always marries a classic sense of house history with fresh new perspectives for both head and heel.

2022 black repress / green velvet makes his circus recordings debut with bigger than prince, his most talked about track in years!
bigger than prince was born out of a conversation between label boss yousef and green velvet when both played the indonesian leg of the annual circus tour. the idea of the chicago legend contributing a brand new track for the circus x // part 1 compilation was floated and soon he was joining nine other friends of circus who were all to feature in celebration of ten years of events.
*bigger than prince* is a classic green velvet vocal number and sharper and fresher than anything we have heard this summer. quirky and driving, its set to be one of the tracks of the season. to back the original, yousef has drafted in more friends of circus on remix duties, hot since 82 and the martinez brothers.

the last and eighth release in this series opens up with christian wunschs remix of ex machina on the a-side which is all hypnotic bounce, roaring chords, cutting through the irrepressible groove. morbecks remix of ghost town on a2 is an atmospheric but tough interpretation of the original, kicking hard with jackhammered drums, coupled with metal scraping metal sounds and a simplicity that makes it a handy tool to build great tension on the dance-floor. the b-side kicks off with jonas koppss remix of miscellaneous pt. 1 – creatively pairing the heavy rolling 909 drums with a classic four-on-the-floor clap pattern and topped with the eroded drones of the original track. b2 is a re-mastered version of the utterly timeless and epic club hit “1969” by the mastermind christian morgenstern himself.

now, if there was ever a record title that could make you look twice its gotta be this seminal slab of jacking chicago mayhem from maurice joshua & hot hands hula. released in the golden year of 1988 on the legendary trax label which was already in full flight and on a major roll at the time. it could have been easy to overlook i gotta big dick because of its (mildly) humorous, tongue in cheek title, but don t be fooled, this is one sleek, charged acid weapon, an early blueprint for the incoming ghetto house scene out of the chi perhaps? if you re somewhat prudish or easily offended by the lyrical content the guys were kind enough to include an instrumental version that jacks in all the right places! also included on this ep is the stone cold classic this is acid which was co-produced by lidell townsell that became an acid house anthem all the way from illinois to ilford. a true school chicago jam indeed! finishing out the ep is the almost apocalyptic acid of -feel the mood- that features a rap from kool rock steady, the combination of twisting 303 s, church-like organs and synths and kool s razor sharp rhymes make for a pretty heavy concoction, use this one wisely damage will occur on the dance-floor! remastered in conjunction with trax records, fully legit, now is the time to revisit a cornerstone of classic chicago house music, often imitated, never bettered!
