favorite recordings proudly presents this new official reissue of arian: a rare and underrated disco album originally released in 1981 by pgp rtb label and fully recorded in new-york. arian kerliu was born in the small town of macedonia, dibra or debar. arian’s first recordings for a local radio stations were at the age of 14, appearing in almost every music festival in ex-yugoslavia. when he was 19, arian came to new york city, working different jobs and studying music. his first music engagements were in various clubs throughout the city, playing guitar and singing. he then met with james benjamin-fish, well known bass-guitar player, with whom he formed the band arian & funky family, mainly performing in the best clubs of nyc at that time. together, they came to an idea to record an album of their own. after travelling throughout the us, they got to know each other very well, and had connected with probably some of the best musicians you could find at that time. thus they had sinclair acey arranging three songs and hubert eaves, as a writer of -still together-, a beautiful ballad written in honor of his wife. by that time hubert had gained two grammy awards for stephanie mills’ albums. kornelius cambell also wrote and composed two songs of the album, which sinclair acey arranged. the album also contains a great cover of “can’t say goodbye” by bobby caldwell, a song that arian and james had interpreted almost every night when touring. and all of this completed with the background vocals of tawatha agee (mtume), shevill alexander and sybil thomas (raw silk). arian & funky family band was then invited in yugoslavia for a european tour, including james, kornelius and stacey, but also others great musicians such as william -spaceman- patterson, zane mark, steve kroon, trevor gale, alex foster, or reggie marks, not forgetting flame braithwaite and meli sa morgan on background vocals. having the material of the 4 songs ready and finalized, the pgp rtb label from belgrade offered them to release an album, with the idea to also adapt the songs with lyrics from the famous croatian musician and writer mario mihaljevic. today, favorite recordings is deeply honored to bring this brilliant lp back to life. in order to insure the best sound quality, the original tracklist has been dispatched on a double vinyl version, which should please all djs and music collectors

‘race to zero’ is the new album by musician and composer john matthias and producer, musician and composer jay auborn.
the album’s starting point was a series of acoustic improvisations recorded in a variety oflocations, from a 700 year old chapel in the devon countryside to a basement studio in reykjavík, iceland. in an attempt to create a fractured sense of space reflective of the digital condition, the duo found themselves working within a place that could only exist in the digital landscape.
by crushing the recordings through a hundred different virtual rooms of reverb and other chaotic digital processes, they collided, soared and splintered into sweeping new rhythms, melodies and drones.
the outcome is a unique landscape that blurs the line between the virtual and physical worlds.

dispersion is an ep deep in style, talent and wonder. embellishing the underground kudos of berlin-based techno dj and producer avion, owner of the hotly tipped, and renowned imprint crossing, dispersion is an eclectic mix of cerebral, uncompromising and colorful techno. title track dispersion is a gleaming display of spacious dancefloor beats melancholic, yet industrial. real is clinical, functional techno, emulating some of the wizards influential magic. inverse blends together a contemporary approach to sonic aptitudes, while remaining a strictly dancefloor and body orientated, while enidan a colorful moment of ambient beauty, plays the ep out. it is the first release on marcel fengler s regarded, techno imprint imf in 2017. dispersion is an ambitious, and unique ep, from a true underground and mysterious talent. the eps style embodies the bright, hypnotic and pulsing music that has characterized his releases to date on crossing. talking about the release, fengler states, he got my attention after some pretty strong releases on his own imprint crossing. i felt that this was something i didnt have on my label, but still reflected the idea of imf.

it’s no exaggeration to say that geraldo pino and his band the heartbeats kickstarted the whole soul/funk/afrobeat scene in west africa. mixing highlife, funk and jazz, and using the latest equipment, they laid waste to all before them. in 1966 fela kuti was a jobbing musician, eeking out a living with highlife bands. when gerlado pino came to town, it changed his life.
“pino tore up the scene,” he recalls in an interview with carlos moore. “i knew i had to get my shit together. and fast!”

with just one 7inch release to their name in the form of the 1981 release, jive baby on a saturday night, the cult of the jellies was possibly accidentally assured with the long lost song being rediscovered by collectors and championed by sonic youth s thurston moore no less. picked up and reissued by the stellar trunk records in 2010, the b-side cut, however, was sadly overlooked. now emotional rescue are proud to license the conversation and remaster it especially for this rerelease. based around a simple drum and bass rhythm, interspersed with crowd noise, playful female vocal yelps and sprinkled with dub effects thrown in to the mix and you wouldn t probably think too much would be going for a track that the band put together in the last two hours of their studio time after jive baby had been completed. however, what you get is a killer gem of pop-punk-dub oddness that gets your head nodding to its infectious, repetitive rhythm laden with effects. with just this one (perfect) track available for license it seemed only right to hand it over to the in-house production team, apophenia, to do their increasingly trademark dubbed out reworking, this time in the form of a true, but respectful version for the flip. with both members of the jellies sadly now living overseas this piece of early 80s british dub as it were, can now be fully treasured for posterity while also, proving a nice little smokers delight.

skatebard is back on untz untz records. this time in collaborative mode with stiletti-ana to present: the finsk-norsk body language society. the short version of the story goes: skatebard and stiletti-ana meet at a party they both played at hosted by untz untz in berlin 2011. stiletti was there as part of the duo jesse. a drum machine gets a skate signature on it at the end of the night. jesse remixes skates confirmation bias track for untz untz in 2013. fast forward to 2017 and here we are with the deal that was unknowingly signed in 2011 fulfilled. this record was recorded, mixed & dubbed live straight to a two track stereo tape recorder, during a fine january weekend in 2017 at stiletti’s haista ii studio on the island suomenlinna outside helsinki. we hope you like standard moderne, a moderne standard.

after one year of high energy industrial and punk-leaning music, kess kill presents something slightly more contemplative: the vinyl debut of the swedish act grand mal x. the solna based duo started in 2010 and was first known from the cassette scene, which was also where we stumbled across their work. drawing from a long and wide palette of influences — from osho dynamic meditation and eu highways, to artists like suicide, coil and rune lindblad — their music breathes an ethereal yet catchy air, a difficult line to tread. the fact that one of the members is active at the legendary experimental ems studios in stockholm might be the reason for the unusual amount of depth and maturity, steering the music sternly away from the plainly accessible. opener ‘late night call’ is a brooding and growling number perfect for setting the mood in any room or occasion needing an infusion of sweaty sexual energy. ‘speed of light’, the record’s most up-tempo song, leans towards both synth pop and electro-punk. on the flip ‘the trip’ does the exact opposite of the opener, winding things down both emotionally and energy wise, replacing sex appeal with lithium-lined angst, not unlike alan wilder at his deepest. ending the ep is ‘rabbit’, an unadulterated trip down a similarly named hole for those who feel like falling. summed up it’s the most abstract but surprisingly catchy kess kill release to date, an essential beacon in grasping the label’s concept.

this is a collection of works from british musician gp hall, recorded between 1994 and 1999. for over four decades, guitar in hand hall encountered many styles, jazz, blues, flamenco, rock, folk, and classical improvisation. all contributed to the creation of his unique style. emerging from the british blues boom of the 1960’s, he then followed a long and winding path through various scenes and cultures. in spain, he was influenced by flamenco master manitas del plata before touring europe with liverpool band casey jones & the governors. he was commissioned three times (twice by the arts council of great britain) for original music and was immersed in the avant-garde scene of the 1970’s as an improviser, a pioneer of electric flamenco and a composer of large-scale ensemble pieces. during the 1980’s hall turned his focus to soundtrack music before reinventing himself as the solo performer he is today. with this strong foundation he branched into a tactile expression of his craft, discovering a new style which he called industrial sound sculptures. these sonic compositions are performed on electric and acoustic guitars as well as the six-string bass and are played with various techniques and implements including slides, battery fans, the psaltery bow, razors, toys, velcro and crocodile clips which are fed through sound processors to create a rich sonic environment.

molecules of the legion once again teams up with showbiz of d.i.t.c. for his debut ep “a bronx tale”. while showbiz handles production, molecules administers vocals along with appearances from dres (black sheep) and the legion. both cules and show deliver beats and rhymes as only bronx natives could. they carry on the tradition of dropping gritty neck snapping tracks that was birthed some 40 something years ago in their home town. the legion and d.i.t.c. have given us classics over the last few decades and this latest offering is sure to satisfy the craving of those looking for the real.

buttering trio, founded in 2010, consists of kerendun on vocals and tenor saxophone, rejoicer on loops and synths and beno hendler on bass. all three band members are also producers, mostly active between tel aviv and berlin. combining colourful studio productions with sweet yet poignant lyrics, the trio rearranges the definition of beat making, mixing up all genres. the new album threesome was recorded in three different studios in three different cities london, berlin and tel aviv, during 2015 and 2016. it is the bands 3rd lp released on raw tapes records (not including their 1st ep party bear).

tiffs joints returns for its second release with two hefty bubblers bursting with life from deoke. deoke is south londons dave koor, an esteemed dj, producer and killer on the keys. he also co-runs the label albert s favourites, is one half of modified man and plays with his band the expansions, regularly backing up acts like andrew ashong and connie constance. kamby version was premiered by stamp the wax and both tracks have received early support from the likes of alexander nut, brame & hamo, jimpster & more.

next up on aus music is the welcome return of a good friend and label regular - the ever ascendant marquis hawkes. having released 4 eps on aus thus far, he makes his return in the form of a blazing, floor-focused 2 track ep which sits neatly with previous outings on the label. ‘the basement is burning’ takes it’s name from a near-fateful experience stemming from an electrical fire in hawkes’ home which culminated in him and his family being evacuated from a 5th floor balcony. having ensured the safety of his family, he made a dash across berlin to make a 10am live show, a few days later with the power back on ‘the basement is burning’ was born. the title track kicks off with splashy, live drum samples that are armoured with electronic layers before a feel-good piano lick glides into the mix. bursting synths are introduced before ducking strings chords bring the track to an ecstatic conclusion. ‘tower block boogie’ then tumbles short funk samples through bold drums as a fervid sense of tension burns throughout.

wonderwheel recordings is very proud to present the long awaited debut album -bennu- by queens, ny based produced thor partridge, aka thornato. building up a name for himself over a number of years as a proficient and in-demand remixer, thor s breakout tune -gaita gaita- has been sampled thousands of times by producers all over the world, and has become a certified hit record in south america. a string of remixes and a couple of rare song releases later, thor s groundbreaking things will change ep was released via wonderwheel in 2016 garnering massive buzz and record sales, resulting in a european tour that summer, and a boiler room performance in the fall.

this release is one of round numbers. it’s metroline limited release number 50. you may have actually noticed that we almost got to release 90 by now but number 50 was always kept behind for a collaborative release between the two men behind the label: andrea and gianpiero aka octad and phiorio.

supérieur goes for round two after its relaunch in autumn last year. some of you might be surprised that we re breaking up with the single release concept of having one original and one remix, but we believe the time has come to do so. supérieur will be more independent in the future, with an own artist roaster and also with a different sound than the one deliver with connaisseur. this release is by the highly respected south german producer and dj hans thalau, partisan of the techno soul approach, which was celebrated for years by russ gabriel and his ferox recordings crew. it comes as no suprise that hans and russ are friends. hans -soul adventure ep- is a timeless affair. three tracks full of emotional deepness and classiness, and probably thal communications mastermind best works so far. we re rather proud to be able to release these tunes, as they do strike our chord exactly.

the motionless present is a collection of unreleased poems and soundscapes by the philadelphia-based artist and activist camae ayewa, who performs as moor mother. reverberating and rumbling through the thoracic cavity, few records spoke to the contemporary black american experience quite like moor mother’s 2016 protest album fetish bones. her first new material since that visceral and political work,the motionless present is a statement towards understanding the disconnect between humanity and injustice. the release features various new collaborations and previews of upcoming projects: black quantum futurism, moor jewelry, mental jewelry, 700 bliss and more. the motionless present was created in collaboration with the vinyl factory ahead of moor mother’s ctm festival performance at berghain. artwork designed by bcmh using the collage artwork of grassi.

for its 6th release, bjarki and johnny chrome silver’s bbbbbb records welcome new signing eod (aka stian gjevik) to their unholy alliance with his swurlk ep . the norwegian born, strictly analog producer takes the label off-roading with four outstanding productions channeling ambient, electro and hard bloody techno. having released on imprints including rephlex and weme records, it was actually on soundcloud that bjarki discovered eod’s music. after getting in touch, the scale of his work emerged as gigabytes of unheard music dating back to 2002 were exchanged, all of which was made without the use of a pc an approach which speaks for itself through his instinctive, playful melodies. swurlk ep boasts an impeccable sense of arrangement, more like that of a composer, and even more impressive considering the absence of any computer. the title track opens with a velvety smooth synth melody building with bass textures.‘evenhark uses a broken beat framework to carry floating harmonies. swarm uses layer upon layer of stuttered percussion to build into a relentless techno cut. elcaset_testgroove pairs catchy, interacting melodies with pensive harmonies. swurlk ep is a must listen for fans of melodic electro and an exciting move from a label that continues to challenge all our fucking expectations

sadar bahar & ben cosmic force team up and come correct with these two direct disco jams artwork by cosmo knex. tipp! the two tracker arose after sadar bahar discovered bens utrecht based studio (housing 60 synths!). electro fiend ben was charmed by the electronic elements in sadars funk and sadar loved bens ideas. nuff said, a new nl based project was born. nothing sampled for these tracks. only stabbing guitar, bass, sax and pounding drum programming for dance floor heat!

drummer amir bresler, born in 89, has been established as one of the most sought after israeli drummers, performing in israel and abroad at prominent local and world stage jazz festivals. starting his musical education at the age of 13, amir was first exposed to jazz music at the age of 15 upon his enrollment for the jazz program at the thelma-yellin national high school of the arts from which he graduated with honors. in 2010 amir joined the world renowned bass player, singer and composer avishai cohen, in concerts globally. avishai cohen is considered to be one of the most successful jazz artists in the world today. amir also performed alongside visiting musicians like sam yahel, joel fraham, mark turner, kirk lightsay, dwayne bruno. in addition, amir played with various israeli artists among these are, daniel zamir, omer klein, kutiman, nitai hershkovits, yotam silbrestein, amos hoffman, gilad abro, shai maestro, to name a few. this release is comprised of two tracks, originally composed and recorded for meinl cymbals drummers-videos-series. these tracks were later chosen by amir to be officially released. the first track, afro golden line, is inspired by 70s african high-life music (specially from ghana and nigeria) this is an odd-meter afro-beat track. featuring sefi zislings distinct trumpet melody and uzi ramirez s playful guitar. the second track, fish, is taken from lbts old mixtapes (originally with vocals by kerendun). it was re-recorded at amirs studio while bassist beno hendler & keyboardist nomok composed the third part of the track. both tracks were produced with rejoicer.

m&g was the duo of maurizio “sangy” sangineto and mirko galli from vicenza, italy. sangy began his music career in 1979 with italian disco group firefly and recorded a solo album steps in 1980. two years later he co-founded italo-disco band the creatures and synth-funk crossover act the armed gang. he met young dj mirko galli at l altro mondo studios in rimini.

hiding slightly out of plain sight, australian producer mood j has been secretly crafting lush house jams for the last half decade bubbling just under the visible surface.
with the artist and asquith having briefly touched base at the beginning of the label’s journey, it took only a chance encounter in a ballarat bungalow in 2016 to reignite the flames of the artist-label relationship. jimmy surprisingly bumping into jon (mood j), as he was daze’s housemate in aus, whilst the lobster crew were on tour there.
mood j’s hard drive was stashed with archive of warm, sizzling, analogue studio tracks cooked to the nines, and so here we are just over 14 months later with the full epic debut in hand.

tony more was the italo disco project of marzio benelli and andrea venturoli from firenze, italy. marzio specialized in sound engineering at various recording studios in milan throughout the early 1980s. he opened emme studio where we worked with major national and international artists. in 1984 he met andrea, a sound programmer who knew his way around analog synthesizers. their first collaboration was that same year on the song “computer sourire” for alexander robotnick debut album. in 1985 the duo recorded ‘tonight’, the debut single for the vocalist tony more that was released the same year on sensation records.

thomas leer is an innovative electronic musician from port glasgow, scotland. he began singing for a local band at age 13, and was writing his own music by 18. by 1977, he had moved to london, where he fronted pressure, a clash­-esque punk group with fellow experimental scottish musician robert rental. after hearing kraftwerk, leer became interested in synthesizers – not long after, he was exploring the experimental techniques of eno, zappa, beefheart, faust, and can. in 1978, thomas released his first single, private plane / international , on his own oblique records that we reissued in 2015. 1979 is a 14-song collection spread across two pieces of vinyl clocking in at 70 minutes. leer says, 1979 was a great year for making music.

artcub records is an new open-minded techno label created by marco gayo from france. the label will propose somes deep to raw techno in his futures releases. here the first work from the rising star of nederlands: qindek. darko esser was the man who pulled qindek and gave him a shot at his own wolfskuil-label to release music in vinyl. people like laurent garnier, rolando, norman nodge, ben sims, dvs1, pfirter, benny rodriguez (rod), sandrien and Âme incorporated qindek’s release in their sets.
trappist one ep is an attempt to create some of the emotions and state of minds while being on the ship towards our next destination within this multiverse. intergalactic light ensemble is traveling at lightspeed towards adventure, and midst of travel we discover something unexplained. waves and waves is the contemplation of that moment. alarma is a code red, losing our minds as we encounter a energyforce which has far greater powers than we ever imagined. how do we face such powers? eon gives answer to such quations, as we progress into our creative awareness, and gaining new insights on how to manipulate energy.

i released the original 12inch volume of five fingers of death battle breaks way back in 1998, while i was living in oakland and then san francisco during a time of incredible movement and creativity within the suddenly exploding scratch dj scene. the term turntablist, coined by dj disk, had yet to really catch on outside of the bay area scratch fraternity. having recently moved to california from new york, pauls turntable aesthetics were strictly 80s east coast and was more concerned with catching doubles (beat juggling) and overall party rocking. in other words, the science of scratching was not something i was even contemplating.needless to say, i was completely amazed and overwhelmed with what djs like qbert, shortcut, apollo and mixmaster mike were doing. sampling as an art is a concept: taking samples away from their origins forward something new, emotional or even funny. -le grand détrounement- was a movie made in the 90 s by great actors of french media -canal+-. it took several 50>80 s movies with classical american actors, cutting them and redubbing to make a big funny story. s3a records is delighted to welcome a new french artist, who wanted to make the same on his music with this project. s3a rec is very excited to present 6 tracks ep between minimal sampled house music and dirty hip hop!

paul hester created his cult moon music label in 1997 as a portal for his own productions and sounds. the label was short-lived, with only 3 releases in it s catalogue, all produced by hester himself. those few releases on moon are now highly sought after among house and techno aficionados who are forever seeking that deeper groove. the interesting part of this story, beyond the amazing music that was released, is that there are many other tracks that never saw the light of the day, thus leaving the full moon story untold. the electric wig ep was the first release on the label and is here in fully remastered reissue form, with all racks lovingly transferred from paul hester s private, personal dat stash. classic, deep uk techno sounds from the pre-millenium era, re-presented for the first time for 2017 s dancefloors. across these 2 tracks and 2 lock grooves we are treated to a sound that is timeless and will undoubtedly gain paul hester new fans while reminding those of us who were there in the late 90 s about his subtle and uniquely fresh production style.

riding high on the success of his epoch ep in february, john monkman makes his debut on crosstown rebels with harmonix, a celebration of the moog voyager, whilst techno heavyweight matrixxman supplies the remix. a true master of his craft, monkman has been creating music for over a decade and his passion and experience shine through his productions. harmonix was born after the uk producer and dj limited himself to just one synth, resulting in “interesting harmonics and a rawness that comes from syncing the oscillators, combined with an overload hack that gives the sound a little more juice”. sophisticated and formidable, harmonix 1 and harmonix 2 are orchestrated around the legendary moog voyager, with charged high hats that fracture the driving beat. us producer and dj matrixxman completes the ep with an imposing remix, verging on cinematic and brimming with atmosphere. continually building on his solid reputation, john monkman has previously collaborated with pete tong, and released on labels including, kompakt, get physical and noir.

fredfades is a norwegian producer specialising in the uncut raw hip hop. here’s his debut solo album, “warmth”. (vinyl includes download code) in 2013 he dropped a classic with ivan ave called breathe on kingunderground records. warmth is his debut solo album following a long line of singles, collaborative albums, cassettes and load of independently released projects. the album has 16 tracks made from jazz, soul and boogie samples with gritty drums and a dash of synth stabs, mixed by fred and mastered at strype audio in oslo by christian obermayer. the title track warmth is the last track on the album and was sampled from a live recording off one of fred’s favourite jazz records that is always on heavy rotation at the crib. guests at the table include med (stones throw), mndsgn (stones throw), ivan ave, (jakarta), moruf, koreatown oddity (stones throw), chester watson and more.

real d. burst on the scene last summer with his breakthrough track rhodes that . one year on and the release is still in high demand, fetching upwards of £50 on the cogs. matt & stu were invited to play at his party in his hometown of bordeaux late last year and the idea of an ep for wolf was discussed over the best red wine and cheese the southwest of france had to offer. in a strange but true story a 3d glasses company in silicon valley called real d came knocking and with the threat of legal action, his name had to be changed & real j. was born. another great addition to the ever-growing wolf music roster.

next up on hell yeah is -the most balearic record i have ever released- according to label boss & it comes from japan s disco don max essa which features a four part track, themes from the hood, the cad, & the lovely, on one side of vinyl, and two more on the flip. essa was born matthew bruce and the uk artist has now been releasing his blissed out beats on labels like feel music, electric minds, bear funk and is it balearic? recording for a decade. a prolific producer whose big hits like panorama suite/uptown vibration (is it balearic?) from 2010 have long been in the hell yeah boss s record bag, essa first approached the label with a bunch of tracks. a good correspondence alchemy ensued and together the artist and label decided to put out the most timeless 12inch possible. the exquisitely ambitious themes from the hood, the cad, & the lovely is almost 12 minutes of serene ambient synth work that is like a soundtrack to a hot summer s day. heavenly chords sound just like a breathy female vocal and as they come and go, one finger piano tinkles add real emotional beauty and gentle twinkles shimmer in the distance. half way through lazy drums propel things along at a loveably lethargic pace and immediately place you on the beach. on the flip, saguaro is just as organic and beautiful, but has tumbling drums, wooden hits and soft claps as well as essa s magical synth work all bathing your soul in warm rays. b2 buran chime is perfectly horizontal and expansive, with tinkling triangles, angelic chords and scattered hits and harpsichord sounds all radiating effusively. this is timeless music that will calm busy minds now and forever.

anglo-cherokee-japanese skateboarder turned musician korey dane returns with his second album chamber girls. influenced by the likes of t.s. eliot, tom waits, karen dalton, the beatles and the stones, and more, chamber girls was recorded almost completely live at l.a.’s analog time capsule valentine recording studios, searing instinct and experience direct to tape. dane produced everything himself, too, except for a quick assist from legendary producer tony berg (x, public image ltd.) on one song, and he was inspired by the deceptively simple ethos he’d internalized while making youngblood: pursue greatness. “writing a song that you know someone might skip over later is sacrilege,” he says. instead, he wanted every song on chamber girls to feel not only live but alive, too, with that go-forbroke spirit that animates everything he says, does, or sings: “i’m writing all the time,” he says. “i’ve lived by a line a day sometimes. i try and stop when it’s good. if you try and simplify it down to its bare elements ... it’s truly a redemptive act.”

it is making my blood boil. man, my jaw is hanging down listening to this stuff. read the email from butthole surfers man and producer, paul leary, when he heard the demo for what would become the debut philipp gorbachev & the naked man album. philipp gorbachev, the russian musician and dj, has been throwing killer parties and making some of the most innovative and exciting electronic music to come out of moscow in years. in 2014 he released his debut album silver album but when invited to perform a live boiler room he had something else in mind: a band scenario. the resulting concoction was not something locked into a 4/4 beat but rather a much more organic, groove-based sound with funk-strutting bass lines and live drums that rolled and flurried around the beats that jumped around leading the charge of the songs along with gorbachev’s damo suzuki-like vocals. taking that experiment into the studio, i dont give a snare is a wild ride that jumps genres, switches paces and alters tones frequently. the opening goodman exploding in intense rhythms and heavy, spiralling riffs that at times recall sabbath but the ever-shifting drums and gargling electronics give a wonky freshness that feels impossible to place into genre. whilst gorbachev cites a range of influences from beck to blind willie johnson as being core to him, the primary motivation is the live nature of the project itself. the main influence is the constant live experience we have as music players and performers. i want to get the most out of every party, every jam, and every dancefloor.

mei zhiyong had been instrumental in arranging dp’s tour of china. when mei zhiyong and dave phillips first met in beijing in july 2014, mei spoke not a word of english and dp not a word of chinese. and they we were to embark on an 18 city tour together. verbal communication between mei and dp was obviously difficult to say the least. it would often result in comical misunderstandings, total puzzlement or bewilderment, but it would also be a source of constant amusement with wonderful moments of instinctive trust. but then there is sound, the ultimate language… to return the favor, dp arranged a tour for mei and himself in october 2015 through 20 european cities. which is where the source material was recorded. dp then selected, dissected and transformed those recordings to work out something different, not just a collaboration, not just an amalgam of two styles, but something new for both. the compositions on this lp are the result.

danny scrilla returns to cosmic bridge records with a full-length project inspired by a desire to experiment outside of club conventions. while cosmic bridge has become known for forward-thinking, dubwise dancefloor mutations, label founder om unit has long been a fan of ambient and synthesizer music and ancient musical box offers a current take on the format, with 16 tracks of lush electronic compositions and meditations. fittingly, ancient musical box also marks the label s first cassette release.

ancient musical box was written over the past year as a direct reaction to danny s frustration with club music and the inevitable cynicism that can sometimes arise from prolonged contact with scenes, styles, and genres. i wanted to create something without any ulterior motives, he explains. as the tracks accumulated, the project took on a personal dimension and therapeutic qualities. intent on not over-thinking or polishing his ideas, danny created something that is less album and more a collection of emotions in their rawest form.

despite not being intended for the dancefloor, the music on ancient musical box still bears clear relations to danny s catalogue in its minimalist approach and use of melodic motifs. you can hear it in the hazy crescendo of night sweats , the wobbly funk of pangalactic gargleblaster , and the gentle keys of talisman . alongside these are more experimental moments, seemingly fragile in their simplicity but hiding a depth that reveals itself in context: the delicate loops of the title track, the vibrations of cryopod , the melancholy progressions of too little too late .

this superbly crafted bob marley set (2lp + download code) compiled and annotated by french journalist vincent tarrière, chronicles the story behind this legendary article “the wild side of paradise” published by rolling stone magasine in 1973 through the memories of photographer arthur gorson and features a handpicked selection of bob marley’s best songs, recorded at his creative peak, during the late 60s and early 70s, when he was working with producers bunny lee, leslie kong and lee perry.

artist susana estrada was one of the leading figures of the “destape” during the late 70s and early 80s, a period in spain when sexual openness and freedom of thought exploded just when the country was coming out of a dictatorship. . besides acting in lot of movies and musical plays, susana as a singer also released a few 45s, cassettes and one lp, “amor y libertad”, produced by the great josep llobell, which is now regarded as a cosmic disco classic. from that album, cosmic record store selected two tracks for side a of this 12”, “gózame ya” and “quítate el sostén”. for the b side, the label has included three edits in a nu-disco & cosmic vein by producers james rod, javi frías and mr. absolut aka sergio peña.
