recently, superpitcher was invited to go on a safari in south africa. he bought a custom made safari hat at his favorite milliner in cologne (ju&#776,,,rgen eifler) and set off with big eyes and a pair of binoculars. it was wild and wonderful and he saw many exotic (and big!) animals, even a leopard in a tree that told him the secret of the universe. he forgot what the leopard said because his mind was still playing and replaying the sound of what he heard on the first night of his arrival – the hypnotic and moving sound of the voices of africa, the voices of the wonderful tanda tula staff choir. there, the choir members work during the day at the camp and at night entertain the guests with their captivating voices and energetic dancing. so impressed was he with their songs and beautiful shangaan language that he decided to record a cd for them to sell in the shop at their camp and now this precious recording is also available through hippie dance / bush recordings on vinyl and cd for you in whatever wherever camp you are. the lp of the tanda tula choir comes with a very pretty poster.

next up on bucharest’s raw tools label is börft co-founder, johan sturesson, also known to be part of the swedish electronic trio, frak. the four-track ep consists in music from the private vaults of the producer, that has been kept secret for almost 20 years. rough and gritty, his analogue approach and stripped down sound define the record. starting with the rave sounding “uncle owl” and then moving to a more darkly atmospheric title track, kord shows his muscles on the flipside with some more techno infused and bass driven dancefloor cuts.
always under the radar, johan has been operating raw electronics since the late 80’s, developing his distinctive sound. as kord, he has released on several swedish labels, including his own imprint. together with jan svensson and björn isgren as frak, they have released music on labels such as kontra musik, lux rec and midlight records.

dc175 comes courtesy of alias, a new project comprising of harvey & ryan mckay, who are two acts who have previously released solo material on the label. harvey mckays last appearance was in late 2016 when he dropped the mad drummer on a-sides vol. 4 whereas ryan mckay s last outing was in 2015 when he appeared on a-sides vol.3 under the name skiver. this is the first collaborative project between the scottish duo under their new moniker alias. the ep opens with pentatonic , a tough sounding track that has been designed for the forward-thinkers. the truth follows up sharply, with vintage piano stabs and a vocal that gives the track abounding energy. the on-point percussion leads you on a trip of pure rapture. the release closes with the apocalyptic dream taker, which is teeming with sinister vocal action and hostile synth work and a sublime way to sign off.

born marco sterk, he certainly doesnt come from a standard dj background. a former skate rat who grew up loving american post-hardcore and 90s hip-hop as much as early warp records, hes been affiliated over the years with amsterdam institutions such as rush hour, red light records (where you ll find him most weekdays!) and, of course, dekmantel itself. still, thers no question that hes always followed his own path, even during the years that playing his favorite records meant that he was occasionally clearing dancefloors

after mathematics, bio rhythm and la beauté du négatif, american artist deviere is back on parisian label unlearn. lobster theremin artist and unlearn affiliate royer is on remix duty. water drums (a1), a deep and spacey cut reminds a joey-anderson-esque imagery for a moody and introspective club experience. strong yet subtle in the low end, this one is for the big sound systems. royer’s demi-monde remix comes up as a more housy interpretation, mixing dubby inspirations with lo-fi aesthetics. reminiscent of kyle hall’s early works on moods and grooves, rising (b1) is an upfront dancefloor track suited for peak time euphoria. speak into existence (b2) is probably the most accessible track of the ep, oscillating between acid-yet-warm feelings and solemn preacher-preachin’ vibes.
