creme organization s jericho one label continues to set a fine agenda with its fifth ep, this time from dj plant texture aka dona basile, who also releases as dona and given. this is only his second ep under this alias, and is one that again marries breakbeats, techno and electro into electrifying new forms. things kick off with maybe sometimes , three minutes of brutal old school rave. maybe sometimes (2_3 psymono mix) is then a heavily filtered and stripped back version of the same tune that is brilliantly weird and otherworldly. lello from sda then picks up the pace once more with reversed stabs, slamming drums and rubbery bass all cut up with yelping vocals and dusty breaks that take you right back to the early 90s. on the flip, gargantuans is on a deeper and more trippy old school flex with bright pads and gurgling bass taking you higher, then cyclone (tribute to the 90 s) is just that with its frenzied drums, filters and euphoric breakdowns all run through with street fighter samples. d_one then ends the trip with a bit of ambient electronics, with odd sine waves and sharp sound designs placing you in an unhinged world.

following the peace obscured ep by bokeh, his joint venture with anthone, katsunori sawa sets yet another mark on the weevil neighbourhood with his first full-length solo artist album on the label. titled secret of silence the eight tracks-spanning work of kyoto based sawa drills through japan techno, industrial breaks and noise while flirting with breakcore and a more aggressive take on dub.
katsunori sawa has been with the label for pretty much four years now with solo projects as well as joint ventures (besides the aforementioned bokeh, he’s also part of steven porter with his brother in arms yuji kondo with whom he also runs their own 10 label). his musical career reaches back another few years when he was writing and producing under eoc (short for enormous o clock), including an album for ai records.

boris bunnik needs little introduction, a prolific producer who uses an array of monikers to release his many personalities. he has released on many labels including delsin, clone, m.o.s and pinkman to name a few. for polychange bunnik finds the balance between abstract, ethereal and jacking across all 4 tracks to create the sound of his unique take on electro.

new years deal - , fresh from guesting on the debut powell lp sport (xl recordings), and having released on labels such as the tapeworm, entracte, and halcyon veil, dale cornish now presents clap - four rhythmic experiments that explore the mesmeric tones of the digital clap using the ever-popular tr909 clap pre-set. sharing similarities in intention with n.m.os as strict as possible approach, pieces subtly evolve and mutate around the clap to generate motion, tension and action. oolovka takes an unashamedly joyous look at the clap, where melodic repetition whirls and whirls until it takes on a form of mesmerising minimalism – perhaps taking its cues from a modern take on steve reichs ‘music for 18 musicians’ as a backdrop for the clap to playfully roll over and mutate into a sound which is both refreshingly light hearted yet steeped in rhythmic experimentation. cxema takes us a into a tenser, more claustrophobic space where a heads down pulse keeps the body locked until the fog is occasionally broken and the tension momentarily cleared via delayed claps and familiar sonar tones. this vibe continues into isolate with cornish upping the anxiety by using the clap as a foreboding menace. coming across like an inspired soundtrack to a military performance piece the concern appears to revolve around strict precision and strict movement and how the clap can be used to enforce and heighten this functional display. before encore winds things down by stripping things back to the bare minimum for movement – a single effected clap gradually layers and layers itself to create pleasingly odd high tension atmospherics solely through a meticulous process of delicate rhythm and repetition.

these songs were made over the past 2 and a half years by uchi: luna (january 2016), was named after a talking cat. it s kind of a sad story. you will find some synth sounds, three different kick drums, and a couple hi-hats. it s kind of moody. you can take it as it is, or not. pride is poison (july 2014) ironically, it s titled after experiencing dosages of unhealthy relationships, though it might be the one people like the most. it s sad-ish, noisy, bouncie, and bassie? that about sums it up. inc (february 2016) is titled after the international noise conference, where it was recorded. actually it s a 3 part spliced zoom room recording of a 25min long improvisation, made in a punk bar. the argument here holds, is it really worth it to make perfect music? where is the concept of -live- in techno anyways? it doesn t matter. it s just a semi-distorted recording of a moment that meant nothing to almost no one, and yet it lives.

for nearly a decade, raíz and subversive have distributed their vision of dance music on various labels including historia y violencia, electric deluxe, construct reform, droid recordings and their own imprint vrv. three years into the vrv project, the label heads have decided it is time to expand the roster and showcase artists on a similar plane, producers they know can speak to the sound. the chosen interpreters on this release include drumcell & truncate as cell injection, and silent servant. silent servant remixes raíz’s cored 3 the former sandwell district and current jealous god co-conspirator steps up with a stark composition in which melodic arpeggiation builds over industrial drones and echoing drums. the mix of sound reaches a clear peak, then segues into a calm that’s expertly tooled for mixing. drumcell and truncate remix raíz’s cored 2 droid behavior’s best-known producers take up their cell injection collaboration to hollow out raíz’s “cored 2” for a driving roller with eerie pads and a darker sensibility. subversive remixes raíz’s cored 4 subversive breathes another level of funk into the original, with clanging percussion and a new melodic motif.
