out of rome, sofatalk soars high on this ep, feeling out the difference between a lifetime on earth or one really cool moment above it. the title track breathes and evolves via a series of flourishes on the playful side of things - this one is no beard stroker. cloudy soul keeps the optimism and front foot action rolling with an excursion slightly to the deeper end without ever fully taking the plunge. wrapping it up, on reflection is a tight little rhythm-box-driven number that takes you by surprise, transplanting you from the floor to the lower middle stratosphere without you realising. japanese producer 9dw then turns it into a hot stepper of its own, keeping the energy up there but differentiating the bounce.

it has been a long time between drinks for german band bambi - and it is something of a triumphant return, too. last time we heard from them, back in 2000, they were a post minimal rock duo comprising of guitarist/vocalist robin van velzen and drummer hans christian fuss. a decade and a half of live improvisation and a multitude of collaborations later, they return as a balearic rock four-piece. the bands newest members, former mountaineer man frank mollena and sofia fuss, were asked to join following a particularly successful series of live collaborations and improvisational jams. through balearic post-rock territory, with van velzens weary, emotional vocals riding a wave of vibrant colours, backwards hazy, intoxicating and evocative, it sounds like a horizontal anthem in the making. one sided, hand numbered, limited to 500 copies.

elektra release of charlotte gainsbourgs third studio album titled irm. the title is derived from m.r.i, which reflects the medical procedure charlotte had to go through after suffering a head injury in a water skiing accident in 2007. the album is charlottes most personal to date, and is produced by acclaimed grammy nominated artist/multi-instrumentalist beck. what started as a brief recording session between charlotte gainsbourg and beck ended up to be the body of work that is irm. over the course of a year and a half of writing and recording together, becks role grew to encompass all aspects of the creative process. he worked seamlessly with charlotte co writing the lyrics and produced and mixed the recording. (this is the first time he has ever been so involved in another artists work.)

jeroens commemorating his roots by re-releasing a selection of search records from days gone by. each has been remastered in such a way that it retains its authentic and timeless energy. pressed onto fresh vinyl, this limited series contains some of the finest search tracks ever to be put out, handpicked by jeroen himself. in light of that it might be easily forgotten that jeroen search has been creating techno since the early nineties. and that he ran one of the most influential labels around back then: >search<. between 1996 and 2001 it was home to a host of releases, many from jeroen himself. released on vinyl and without any reprints, they ve since hidden in the record collections of a select few.

undoubtedly & massive early 90s revival techno. both tracks spanning on their own full sides between several themes each - unlike much of todays poorly produced and reduced retro dance music. two other parts of this collaboration will be released on klasse wrecks and grafiti tapes respectively. blip!

caul is the new album from last harbour. based in the northern english city of manchester, last harbour play music with a dark, gothic heart yet their songs are always beautiful and transcendent. after working with producer richard formby (wild beasts, spacemen 3, ghostpoet) on two previous albums, the band took time out after touring to build their own studio in 2013. this new album was recorded in that self-created space over a year between 2013-4 and bears testament to a patient and detailed recording process that allowed time for experimentation and careful arrangement.

six months after their last installment, shir khan and exploited drop another hot to trot collection of disco edits. as usual, there is much to excite, beginning with the familiar guitar solos, rhodes keys and dub disco pulse of antilopes *singing ghost* rework. death on the balcony keep up the reverb and delay-laden dub disco theme on *addict for your love*, whose rubbery groove, twinkling pianos and heady vocals have been expertly rearranged to fit house dancefloors. finally, matpat go loop crazy on the thumping disco house cut *only you* which sits somewhere between rahaan and soundstream. excellent stuff all round.

for a brief moment turin was italys sheffield, producing an astonishing number of diy electronic groups. in the context of a wider europe, italy has never been thought of as a hotbed of minimal electronic music, but mannequin records compilations danza meccanica: italian synth wave 1982-1987 have shone a light on a scene little heard, even within italys borders. but the history was still incomplete ... some new horizons now must be unveiled, showing that between the years of 1982 and 1984, the city of turin in northwest italy was home to a quiet underground renaissance of experimental electronic music.

allnite music 002 brings alex agore with some of his best works so far. both *basement jam* and *be someone* tracks strikes right the middle of the target, somehow between his earlier 4lux works and his no matter what hot dancefloor stuff. on b side, apoena presents two grooved house tracks with jazz sounding keys cut directly from vinyl. just a killer 4-tracker!

the occasional (but always excellent) street edits series returns, this time with a trio of high-grade scalpel works from chicago re-edit hero rahaan. as usual, the source material is dusty and obscure, and the reworks revelatory. -city of disco- is in many ways typical of rahaan s work, with carefully cuts and loops being used to create a thumping, house style groove (admittedly one that pays due reverence to the source material). there s more of a celebratory, soulful feel about the impeccable -strung out-, which turns a little-known disco-soul gem into a huggable dancefloor classic. best of all, though, is -brighten you up-, which sits somewhere between later electrofunk and early house, a proto-proto gem, perhaps. either way, it s a killer.

having previously kept their re-edit series in-house, leeds-based crate-diggers joe s bakery have invited moton (aka london veterans diesel and dave jarvis) to deliver the latest release. those who ve followed the moton records inc series (active since the 90s) will know what to expect: expert re-rubs of obscure material that get the right balance between dancefloor chops and home listening selections. look out for the odd shuffle and electric piano solos of -moody blues-, the percussive early 80s, synth-heavy live disco brilliance of -zoo- (yes, it s definitely balearic) and the hazy, midtempo disco-funk of -bumps-. it s getting progressively hard to find worthwhile re-edit 12- singles, but this one s a genuine killer

resopal schallware first vinyl release in 2015 returns to the fore with none other than roar, purveyors of masterfully-crafted rhythm études and member of the south-of france vibrant house scene. with o pi ohm ep, the two producers bring their first ep to the resopal imprint. with roars ability to maneuver between true school grooves, malicious house, sick synthie lines and relaxed romanticism the three tracks are ornamented with their very own mark.

ecstatic welcomes l/f/d/m to the fold with his debut record m is a shape. l/f/d/m is london based producer richard smith. l/f/d/m first emerged in 2013, inaugurating the optimo trax series with the purple maps ep. in 2014 he teamed up with factory floors dominic butler to release two eps of hardware-driven atonal techno on powells diagonal records. m is a shape bristles with cloudy, industrial, stripped down acid/techno, landing somewhere between berghain, the warehouse sound of the late 90s and the caustic spirit of ebm.

former padded cell and bronx dogs man richard sen has made some great records in his time, and songs of pressure is up there with the best of them. joining the dots between murky dub disco, horror soundtracks and ebm, it layers spooky, delay-laden synthesizer motifs and wonky vocal samples atop a heavy dub rhythm and punchy machine drums. pals andrew weatherall and timothy j fairplay deliver a bongo-laden, dubbed-out revision (part wayward exotica, part humid balearic dub), while acca strips the track down to its nare bones for a ket-addled dub. its a fantastic 12inch, and limited to just 99 copies. you snooze, you lose.

neustadtmusik, with great pleasure, presents two excellent new tracks. dietrich & strolch have created an exquisite, smooth piece of music. the two brothers, who are known for their live sets that take their audience on a journey, have combined their passion for percussions and wicked synth sound perfectly. this track takes you to a deep underground techno dance floor where you find yourself dancing with your eyes closed and drifting away into another dimension, to the ocean, the sun and warm sand between your feet and back. sous sol s track on this release has it all, including a sense of delight that brings out a smile on your face. the rolling bass line brings in mind the siberian express rolling through the cold winter landscape of russia while at the same time there is warmth and the heart gets filled with these warm elements. this rolls parallel to a consistent build up throughout the whole track that makes this composition just perfect.

the fat white family need no introduction and ez-ra & lamik are one half of decius… decius is a collaboration between acid house superstars paranoid london, ez-ra & lamik and lias saoudi the vocalist from the fat white family. their first release 3 months ago *come to me villa / gay futures* was described by ivan smagghe as *the best record of 2014* and is currently still at number 4 in the clone top 10. keeping it in the family, ez-ra & lamik have reworked two of their favourite fat white family tracks, it just seemed rude not to.
