in april of this year, donato dozzy took a set of mouth harps back to his parents house in the italian countryside and set about exploring the possibilities of that most basic of instruments. the mouth harp had been calling to dozzy ever since childhood, when he had discovered the marranzano on a holiday in sicily with this parents at the tail end of the 1970s. almost four decades later, dozzy had begun to see in this peculiar, ancient sound, the roots of the music hed been making and playing in clubs all these years. it was time to find out how far he could trace it all back. the loud silence is the result of those explorations, an accompanied deep-dive into childhood memory, social history and the roots of psychedelia.

containing five synthesiser-led pieces, ‘loon’ was recorded in autumn 2014 across five days at nils’s durton studio in berlin, and continues on from the ambient sounds of ‘stare’ but with the addition of more percussive elements and dub influences. for this new ep the duo wired an oberheim 4 voice and a korg ps3100 to the mixing desk and performed live takes on both instruments. with all four hands on its pots, all mixes were recorded straight onto 2-track ½-inch tape. the vinyl ep includes a download code.

james ross is a guitarist and composer living in brooklyn, n.y. originally from pittsburgh, pa., he has studied guitar at the university of pittsburgh and the mannes college of music in new york city. he has studied sitar with pandit krishna bhatt, and north indian classical music and composition with la monte young and marian zazeela. a composer in a variety of genres, james has written music for orchestral and chamber ensembles, as well as solo music for the guitar and the zhongruan (a type of chinese lute). he has also performed and recorded electronic and improvised music. recent performances as a composer and performer on the electric guitar, laptop and other instruments include sets at the bell house, at the small beast at the delancey with percussionist joseph benzola, a performance with kyle bobby dunn at issue project room, at pianos with richard lainhart, at glasslands gallery with michael vincent waller, at goodbye blue monday with david beardsley, providing live music for katherine liberovskaya and ursula scherrer’s optosonic tea series at diapason gallery in brooklyn, with video artist alex carpenter at the tank in manhattan, and at damrosch park at lincoln center as part of the guitar ensemble for rhys chatham’s “a crimson grail.” a recording of the -crimson grail- performance was released on nonesuch records on sept. 14, 2010. as a classical guitarist, james has performed as a soloist and ensemble player throughout the northeastern united states. he received a solo recitalist fellowship in 1992 from the pennsylvania council on the arts and won the 1993 mannes college of music concerto competition, resulting in a performance of joaquin rodrigo’s “fantasia para gentilhombre,” at symphony space in new york city.

f.s. blumm aka frank schültge from berlin has been making marvelous music for many years now. be it solo like on his latest album (pingipung in 2013) as part of the subtle folk-duo -bobby & blumm- or as a sound- scape researcher at the side of nils frahm. but even though f.s. blummbastic sees the light of day for the very first time in this release, the combina- tion of dub and blumm is not new: he is part of the quasi dub development (qdd). the collective around blumm and luca fadda from new york recently released the album -little-twister vs stiff-neck- with features by lee scratch perry or lady ann on pingipung in 2014. these -riddims and biscuits- came to live during the creation of material for future qdd-concerts. f.s. blummbastic played all instruments himself, rhythm guitar, organ and of course bass to send the results the the colleagues in new york. soon it was clear: these riddims have the most impact in their reduced form. theyd like to stand alone and get played back loudly. for the drums f.s. blummbastic brought helmut erler aka hey from hey-Ø-hansen into the qdd cosmos. not only did he bang the drums, but he has also mixed, mastered and cut the vinyl of this album.

full instrumentation in cayetanos studio in athens, then the band takes over and changes the sounds with the physical instruments in thessaloniki and back to athens again for the final mix. only bound friends and great professionals like them could make this sound so easy. the mix is over, here comes mastering. enrico mercaldis magic ears help the project to reach the stars for one more time. and now the magic begins.tower of power, the intro or better a summary of the album.

tvir is a vinyl only label based in ukraine. translated from ukrainian tvir means composition. its first release comes from kim, a collaboration of two ukrainian musicians: vyacheslav gura and dimitry zharkikh. their objective is to write music of the highest quality in search of their own new unique sound via experiments with live instruments. they are also known as excellent vinyl only djs, participants of many festivals and events in ukraine and beyond. kims sets are similar to their productions with their own story and unique atmosphere.

the first musical scale on apiafo leans towards raw funk with a sound similar to the famous 70s bands, l orchestre poly rythmo de cotonou and el rego. funk, is the skeletal structure of this record, and provided the opportunity for peter to invite his uncle, roger damawuzan - the famous pioneer of the 70s soul scene – on two tracks. their collaboration on *pas contente* is a highlight on this 100% analog album. apiafo was entirely recorded, mixed and mastered with old tapes and vintage instruments.

walking through the sky, five years ago christian naujoks, peter m. kersten and richard von der schulenburg started a series of spontaneous recording sessions without any intention or idea. the only thing what held the group together were the immediate results hitting the three musicians straight inside their hearts. jazz as a metaphor of instrumental conversation, improvisation in the most dillettant way, science as a matter of exploring the opposite sound of what instruments were built to, these might be parts of a concept where there was none.
