2018 repress - standard cover ... us born and meanwhile in berlin residing kevin mchugh aka ambivalent presents his cocoon recordings single debut. ambivalence seems to the be the musical direction here. daylights is a sheer technomonster, musclepacked and full of dark detroit flavour but the used vocal samples and the harmonic synthstrings cant hide the magic touch of daylights. although the massive techno bassline is the star of this track we are sure it will find its way into the sets of many house djs, too. in contrast to that �swung out� appears way more like pure techno and cannot be filed as house at all. we are hypnotized by the shuffled rim shots and hi hats and ambivalent drives this one straight through the dub universe. techno is the destination and the dark vibe of swung out makes it a perfect after hour weapon.

dj seinfeld presents an immersive ep exploring the balance between fragility and force. �sakura ep� is the third and most dynamic offering from deep sea frequency. four tracks draw from a multitude of influences, breaks, electro, dub and trance elements band together with a familiar lo-fidelity approach where distortion acts as an instrument of its own. �sakura� is a subaquatic dose of old school electro with swollen bass and fuzzy harmonics. title track �segrada� brandishes swirling melodies with layers of detail, followed by �belvedere� which uses looped breaks and a sub-driven bassline to build animated funk. �battery� closes things out with a nod to detroit, and a full on drum workout which plays with delicate melodic inflections over a cavernous low end.

meditative and off-kilter, dubkasm�s new 12� is, unsurprisingly, completely unlike any other tune out there, and pays tribute to a too-frequently overlooked part of reggae tradition: dub poetry. originating in a collaboration between dubkasm and their long-time friend, norway-dwelling heavyweight bass guitarist, bajan steppa, enter the gates is a discomix built on a tuff bassline, skittering drums and retro synths, and features reflective, courageous lyrics about the enduring power of black liberation movements and consciousness, from gloucester vocalist rider shafique. the b-side contains an upfront instrumental cut, followed, in true dubkasm style, by a collaboration with a musical titan. mad professor�s incredible dub flips the original into a propulsive soundsystem killer, retaining the tune�s heart and spirit, but driving and percussive where the original is deep and soulful. mastered on to 1/2� tape at stardelta studios, and pressed on 180g vinyl.

richy ahmed has been steadily building his four thirty two label over the last 12 months, introducing talented artists such as jansons and senzala to the fold. the imprint is fast becoming a go to label for those who like their house music uncomplicated and hype free, ensuring the chicago and detroit house sound burns bright with new music indebted to the roots of the music. after recent releases on seth troxler�s play it say it label, and remixes for london grammar, richy brings the goods back to home on this latest four thirty two release. on cant stop us, chunky stabs incessantly jab at meaty drums, as a female vocal loop rides on an opening filter. the good vibes build to a classic house piano crescendo that marshall jefferson would certainly approve of, as the soaring strings and evolving drums raise the rapturous mood to dizzying heights. on the flip, the percussive disco drums of dials mavis are bolstered by a booming sub bassline whilst deft keys and deep rhodes chords deliver the infectious melody on this bumping jazz ride.

toby tobias has a lengthy history of disturbing the peace. this is his second offering for the esp institute. on side a, second stimulus stirs shimmering staccato chords, roaming pipes and detuned robotic sighs into quite the disorienting stew�the loose arrangement remaining fragmented over 9 minutes of touch-and-go 808 programming, picking up a pseudo bassline assembled from sub toms, introducing a gritty break loop and eventually blissing out into oblivion. with side bs synchro surfer, toby plays with the notion of suspense by gently teasing a muted kick and percussion rhythm under washes of white noise, bleeps and sirens that are tape-dubbed and which, over time, begin a dialogue with each other, as if the machines have declared mutiny on the garage. toby continues to stretch his limits with his output for the esp institute, possibly headed toward a full-fledged devolution of conventional dance music. these two songs may have you arrested for public nuisance.

its not often you stumble upon a 9 piece soul band, who were so close to signing a deal with mca�s new subsidiary source records. but group politics and other factors got in the way, and the band shelved what music they had recorded. no reels surfaced but fortunately a member had kept some of those 1978 recordings. between the two seemed to fuse great soul compositions without the durge of the disco era circa 1978. with well thought out lyrics, backed by keys, trumpets and a driving bassline we really are pleased to add the group to the super disco edit roster.

originally released on anthony shakirs frictional recordings in 97, fbks knobs & switches is set to drop on rekids newly launched re-issue label r-time records. since his debut fbk has had a prolific career spanning a number of decades, releasing on rekids, barba records, and the now defunct diametric. this release follows on from the sir lord comixx re-issue, giving classic tracks the acknowledgement they didnt initially get first time round. the release starts with the robust kicks and stuttering hats of rollin on 6/4 as murky notes make their way into the mix, making way for the sci-fi inspired synths and infectious claps of reservations & misgivings. packed with fast paced drums, feedback employs a sultry bassline and euphoric harmonies until skipping percussion and echoing effects conclude the package in the tet offensive.

dapayk solo, berlin based producer and veteran of the minimal techno scene, announces the release of his 10th studio album the calling. this latest project will be the producers first solo album since 2015. the 8-track double 12inch lp will be available via dapayk solos label mos ferry productions and comes with a free download voucher. the first track on this lp the calling shares its name with the album and starts off with a pang of energetic, chopped beats before exploding into a brassy melody, continuously gaining momentum. blackout immediately announces itself as a next generation detroit house anthem. the rolling synths, hi hats, and vocals make this one of the most outstanding tracks on the album.aurora stays true to its name with a buildup composed of throbbing ethereal synths that give the track an otherworldly vibe. flood transports listeners to the dancefloor with its pulsating bassline combined with komplements quaint vocals. the second part of the album begins with after all, one of the most enticing tracks on the album. it combines the groovy rhythm of four to the floor percussion with tantalizing vocals by vars before low tinnitus reverts to dapayks signature minimalist sound. the transition into wanderer continues the momentum built up by the previous tracks. the closing walk with me is a deep-house jam that features a rhythmic shaker layered under mental bends powerful vocals. dapayk solo, alias niklas worgt, isnt afraid to try new things.

the �matière obscure ep� is the first in a two-part series, whereby each composition was made using only recordings from one specific material (metal, glass and wood). the process involved taking everyday objects and making them resonate in every way possible, such as striking them with mallets or using a violin bow, and building up a sample library. �weld (metal_01)� kicks off the release with its syncopated percussion and gritty groove before moving into the cavernous �molten (glass_01)� that�s composed of rolling drums and sinister atmospherics. �carve (wood_01)� is a lot bouncier by comparison, with its fidgeting bassline and murky tones until the menacing �cast (glass_02)� concludes the package with machine inspired effects and a cacophony of stabs.
