trolldans once again opens its musical tome of fairy tales, this time featuring the gif-ted sound sculptor edanticonf. in his chapter of the trolldans volume, edanticonf presents us with the three crying fairies. it is a tale in four parts of desire and tears - as every good story should be. the first fairy tells us about a lake in the deep woods where a young princess called tuvstarr once lost her gold heart. no creature of the forest could convince the princess to let it go, and so she stayed there by the black lake until she turned into a beautiful flower. the second fairy tells us how the princess, before she lost her precious necklace, would ride like the wind through the forest on the back a grand elk. the princess loved the thrill and the elk loved the princess. vril steps in and actually lets us hear the noble elks heart racing from both the pace and his devotion to tuvstarr. the third fairy ends endanticonfs beautiful but melancholy tale with a glimmer of hope: by the darkest of lakes, the loveliest flo-wers grow. the end.

ltd nice price - jon convex kicks off his exciting new convex industries imprint with two of his own solo productions >bump and grind< & >closer<. as one half of instra:mental there is no surprise with the sonic qualities of these tracks, an amalgamation of raw electronica/techno and bass music, or as he likes to call it, epm (electronic party music). both tracks feature convexs trademark pitched vocals, thumping kicks, rounded basslines and twisted glitch edits fit for any dancefloor, a must for any dj that wants to get a crowd moving.

great debut release and new label from a rubadub shop regular featuring tracks from shop regulars. tip. this first release is made up of 3 tracks from my friends and 1 from myself. there’s no concept here other than putting out music that was otherwise not going to see the light of day. the first track is by bleaker who put out a 12inch on unknown to the unknown last year, the second by miz aka big miz whos been putting out music on dixon avenue basement jams, the third by the burrell connection who has a release on west end communications and a track on a craig knows released compilation and the last track is from myself which got a play on big mizs boiler room set. these tracks were all sent to me around the same time and it felt right to make a place for them on a record. bleaker, miz and the burrell connection have all been making waves in scotland and beyond and these 3 tracks are proof that the attention is warranted. and i dont think my track is too bad either.

the delivered sampling of featured artists on louie vega starring, is one for the record books and a must for any music aficionado as louie explains, this body of work is a masterpiece that will be party of my legacy. i see it up there on the same high shelf with albums like nuyorican soul, elements of life, and masters at work.

ts10 is the 1st ep of the toneseries project. born from the collaboration between french music producer, live performer and dj - david k, and lumièreslanuit s co-founder and an der grenze s founder - edouard morin. however, it isn t clear which artist from their extended crew stands behind this 1st release, as if the berlin-based music label wanted to focus on the music rather on the artist. ts10 consists of two tracks, both deep and groovy. whereas ailleurs disseminates the perfect warm-up groove, desert snowflakes fires off a more dancefloor-driven vibe. with regard to the artwork, as shown on the cover, each track has its own colour. there is neither a a nor a b-side. the same applies to the record vinyl itself. each track stands on it own. as a result, ailleurs and desert snowflakes distinguish themselves from each other through their vibes and colours, although they remain in the same spirit. in summary, toneseries brings together the idea of interdependence between music and design: what colour follows on from music and, in return, which musicality comes out of colours.

according to white material pair galcher lustwerk and alvin aronson, their first collaborative album under the studio ost alias contains a mix of breezy electro, aquatic dub, high speed jit, and shimmering atmospherics. while clearly tongue-in-cheek, it s a fairly accurate description. certainly, there s a fluidity, moodiness and palpable sense of atmosphere at the heart of scenes, which casually drifts between hard-edged club workouts, hazy post-club fare and dreamy, horizontal experiments. it was apparently recorded over a three-year period, during jam sessions at various new york studios. its the spontaneous aspect of its creation that has the biggest effect, and makes the whole thing feel like fleeting snapshots of moments in time.

keeping with the rough release rate of an album every couple of years, prime numbers label boss trus me is back with his fourth full length, planet 4. featuring nine cuts of intergalactic techno and once again marking a considerable sonic evolution for this acclaimed uk artist. never one to do the same trick twice, david james wolstencroft uses his latest album as a vehicle for his own interest in deep space, physics and dark matter. it is those subjects that have occupied his mind in recent years, and those subjects that inform this brilliantly otherworldly album. where previous lps have variously been funk and soul heavy, or openly analogue and physical, this one is a more subtle and supple techno affair that is as cerebral as it is seductive. starting with a monologue that suggests that man has already landed on mars, 1979 is a cut that immediately places you somewhere in orbit. spooky synths and sci-fi sounds are eerie and atmospheric and very much set a perfect tone. from there, there is slow, elastic and unsettling mood music on the unexplained , deep and insular techno on dark flow and trippy dan bell style minimalism on ring round heart . the second half of the lp touches on chunky dub, manic and melodic grooves. this is a coherent statement that holds together conceptually and musically. as well as providing plenty of dynamite for the more discerning dance floor, planet 4 is also a delightfully detailed affair that will work just as well on headphones late at night.

australia’s deep street soul, since signing to freestyle records in 2008, have earned a reputation as being right at the grittiest end of the hard funk scene who made a big impact from the outset - with even the mc5’s wayne kramer saying that their version of kick out the jams “... is the greatest version of the song ever recorded!”. from their debut self titled instrumental long player, to the 2011 follow up look out, watch out (and the addition of vocalist mighty may johnston) this band have grown, matured and honed thier songwriting skills, as well as maintaining their rare ability to really capture the essence of the original raw funk & soul artists that inspire them. 2016 sees them return with this quite spectacular new collection. whilst the diamond hard, driving grooves remain undiminished, there is also no doubt that the bands song writing has developed to an equally assured level. case in point is souls come alive - from monique boggia’s wurlitzer electric piano intro, the blistering horns and may johnson’s simply exemplary singing - the songs instant appeal will be lost on no one with an ear for genuine organic soul music. come alive also features guest vocalists joshua tavares and kylie auldist - come alive is deep street souls finest work - no if’s, but’s or maybe’s. it s a done deal.

about a year ago nico stojan and acid pauli met at the studio to record some music. while doing so they discovered their common love for sample based production. so they were basically digging into old vinyls and eventually these three tracks came along. nothing more to say, but enjoy. call of the valley is the first release on the new label ouie: there has been a shift in this tiny piece of massive world and, like all other shifts, they are documented by those who were there. ouie is the label to do just that, created by the people who were there, making those shifts.

the first compilation on the dresden based label shtum unites three label regulars and one newbie with four tracks suitable for rampant basements. -motorcity racers- has been on rotation for quite some time amongst the label heads and is the first sign from poland s chino on shtum. it floats somewhere between dirty detroit and the rough corners of the netherlands. leibniz delivers the -real life-, a relatively straight follow-up to his latest ep, while jaures hit their drum machines like there is no tomorrow. perm s cut is all loopy and succeeds in creating an irresistible atmosphere with just a few elements. the artwork comes courtesy of carl-johannes schulze.

italian native, christian lisco is well known for having an extremely envious collection of vintage synthesisers and drum machines housed in his basement. it was there that four ridiculously special acid cuts that we are prone to immediately fall in love with on first reception. -your joy” which sees the collaborative efforts of singer, michael clifford, evokes the feeling of the early age of american house music. the next set of tracks were treated with a surrounding of acid basslines and heavy drums. mixed live and directly recorded to tape.

nice price deal !!! it’s been nearly two years since the last sanys record. in the meantime, techno has flirted with noise and industrial, often resulting in gloomy self-indulgence. thankfully, there is no such creative verbiage on this seventh instalment of downfall theory. “seizure” starts the release with a robust, stepping rhythm and relentless stabs playing out against atmospheric, eerie textures. it’s like shed’s wax project jamming with deepchord. next up is ‘natural high’. this is one of sanys’ darkest moments so far, inspired by the depth and length of the st petersburg winter, it sees the russian producer lay down a visceral, muddy rhythm, against which ghostly shrieks and waves of frosty chords, blown in from the baltic sea, meet.

christopher rau is one of smallvilles steady mainstays, with yamato he is delivering four tracks, that perfectly describe the seductive cosmos of smallvilles sound. there is nods to the past as well as a way to a timeless future. carefully evolving melody, voices and something caressing from somewhere far away- but within your heart in just a moment. its bubbling and telling stories from the inside but its still targeted straight to a dancefloor- dedicated to the sweetest ones of the world.

for our next chapter, there is parrish smith. in his wicked game of creation and demolishment he s working on combining organic and mental material which brings him to his first full-length ep. his melted personal stories convey through rough mechanics and exuberant expressionism. this tells the story of fulfilment, development and setbacks. mixing up illusional layers of metal drums with harsh and rough moving synthesis. polyrhythmical electroniczzz for the mind.

taking the release-portfolio into account, rampa built over the last years on keinemusik, him adding a new ep to the label s catalogue is worth every credit of trust. and this very “trust” ep is living up to that not only by its name. it certainly offers value for money, considering km-releases have mostly been two-trackers. there are four cuts on this one, each one following a different approach, making it also a hella versatile record.

in the place of the eternal blazing sun there exists an underworld, a dark and cold space of interlinking caves and dank corridors. occupying the subterranean land is an army of worker drones, busying themselves with a never ending series of tasks, both laborious and mechanical.
