the 21st full length release on greyscale is by none other than the home town hero sraunus. a veteran of the label, we are thrilled to have the fellow lithuanian back once again. the depth of surrealismus is nothing short of amazing. how only 7 tracks feels deeper than any double cd set, we are still trying to uncover and understand the entire scope of this release. sonically, it is a true gem of pushing the limits. idea wise, this album is cohesive and awe-inspiring. holowuka is beautiful and gentle opener. it sets off a serene almost deep sea diving atmosphere with the long delays and low frequency chords vibrating through. the melodic elements open up even more, a vast world as the track evolves. from the low key and moody to the pumping aggressiveness that is hroniglas ii . a true monster with a sick combination of trance and deep techno thrills. jueootas conjures of memories of 1990s ambient techno with the light and airy feeling of nostalgia. a lovely adventure on the high seas. jurgynas continues this theme with a beautiful ride into a sound that is blissful and forever. some of the most soothing dub techno we have heard yet. lapunai is another strong candidate for being our most favorite on the album. featuring what sounds like excerpts of violin s over some amazing layered melodies. a shinning moment and a perfect example of a dub techno track s emotional potential. lastly, ramunanas submerges us in a beatless (but not bassline-less) sphere of magical and shimmering sounds. a true master-class of more ambient dub techno. sraunus is back and if surrealismus is any example of what he has in store, then everyone should bookmark his choice where he shares his latest news. we think this could revival any dub techno release for album of the year. it s that good!

the radical discovery by amir abdullah of 5 two-track master tapes in the care of hermine brooks Ð widow of innovative detroit drummer roy brooks Ð of the charles mingus quintet recorded live in detroit at strata concert gallery is cause for some serious celebration. these electrifying recordings took place during mingusÕ week-long residency in february 1973. they were broadcast live by drummer/producer and broadcaster robert ÒbudÓ spangler for wdet fm Ð a public radio station dedicated to jazz Ð from kenny and barbara coxÕs multi-purpose home for strata records at 46 selden. entrance to the gig was $5 dollars in advance and $6 on the door.

having grown up with and on the internet, martin steer (1986) has transformed its pull into a concept album that is just as immediate and intangible as the digital world. bad stream is guitars and machines vanishing in the spaces between radiohead and nine inch nails only to reemerge amidst ambient, noise, and drone. bad stream, then, is his modus operandi a hybrid soundtrack to the feelings of resignation, isolation, and cynicism within neoliberal cyberspace and to that strangely numbing comfort of bodies transmuting into zeros and ones in real time

in the mid 90s, while playing in bands, max wźrden started to record ideas on 4-track tapes. amongst other instruments the guitar was his favourite. since then the guitar is a steady constant during his sound production. predominantly he utilizes the intrument in experimental ways: he sticks screws and metal pieces between the strings or let s marbles run down the guitar neck, triggering a feedback, which becomes the foundation of a track. on his album momentum he went beyond the guitar, but he placed the intrument into focus of the production. max creates energyladen and experimental ambient music that always aims for what genre listeners looking for: the ultimate relaxation moment. the tracks are carried by slowly building string-generated sounds. live recordings and complex arrangements find a delicate symbiosis of ambient and strings.

it has been eleven long years since urbs dropped his last album which was called Òtoujours le meme filmÓ. back then, the musician, dj and producer created the soundtrack to a fictitious film noir, which was released on kruder & dorfmeisterÔs g-stone label, but after touring europe he almost completely retreated from public life. he does not consider his creativity as being his career, but rather as a part of his life which rarely is subject to concrete planning, and that is why urbs quite consciously took his time to create his latest Ðuntitledalbum.

an unreleased classic from the vaults emerges with beautiful reshapes by cv313 (recorded and reshaped from 2007-2016) this is where the sound of cv313 was realized, culled from cassette tapes recorded live (1995-2000) with nothing but analog/digital hardware, no computer in sight (excluding our commodore 64 midi sequencer, which is still alive and well today). the radius project has been absent since the final release in 2001, the first 12- appearing in 1996 (limited white label run of 100 copies pressed at acme pressing in canada) after revisiting these works we realized there was truly some magic here. this project was initially sent to rod modell & mike schommer shortly after they launched their brilliant deepchord label in 2001. they were incredibly kind in saying it was the best demo they had ever heard and passed it on to octal records for release, sadly, that didn t materialize and since then these masters have been collecting dust in our cassette rack for nearly 20 years now. we ve spent months doing our best to restore the old tapes from our tascam 688, an 8 track cassette recorder purchased and abused since 1992 and to our ears still sounds quite impressive even by modern standards. (that is of course, if you can get past the tape hiss) we ve had nearly every component replaced and re-calibrated to bring this obsolete machine back to life, it s been a truly nostalgic experience re-visiting these masters.

mikkel metal was the first artist on echocord, and the main reason why the label was started back then. after many many releases we are very happy and proud that he now returns with a full lenght album. more than 7 years after his last long-player album mikkel metal returns with a new album for echocord. bypassing dub-techno as the starting point, this is music clearly consistent with earlier output. we are presented with 10 tracks that all evolve with around a melancholic melodic framework. while there is clearly a nod to detroit and another to dub- techno, the overall impression is consistently and unmistakably the sound of mikkel metal. a hypnotic, very enjoyable and thorough return from the danish artist.

teenage jesus and the jerks began to formulate their visionary brand of aural catharsis sometime during the first half of 1977, amidst the sordid ruins of a then fully down-and-out lower manhattan. the mastermind behind this juggernaut of sonic libertinage was a barely pubescent but world-weary runaway who called herself lydia lunch.

after retiring from the jamaican police force arthur duke reid established his treasure isle liquor store and sound system in pink lane kingston and was crowned the undisputed king of sound and blues in 1956, 57 and in 58. the duke then moved into record production and after relocating the store to 33 bond street, he then built a recording studio on top of his new premises in 1966. according to the musicians and singers the wooden construction of the treasure isle recording studio gave the music a distinctive warmth and richness and with resident engineer byron baron/smithy smith at the controls, the sound of a bond street recording was immediately recognisable.
