the imogen label launched back in september with a pair of ilija rudman remixes of london acid jazz favourite brand new heavies. this second release sees them change tack somewhat, adopting an archival focus to dig out two tracks by croatian hero ilan kabiljo. known mostly for his 90s work, kabiljo comes from legendary croatian music stock - his father was composer and musician alfons alfi kabiljo. this expression 12inch sees imogen dig through the ilan archives for two rare and unreleased tracks records in 1990, with a side cut cool nights a supple midnight saunter through jazz funk that highlights kabiljo s compositional class. golden days is just as good as sounds like a loving homage to the 80s.

bordello a parigi and nous klaer joined forces to release this straight up rotterdam affair. long time buddies (and neighbors) david vunk and electrick dragon supplied the music for a split 12inch. vunk kicks off the platter with an italo influenced house jam accompanied by a catchy 90s gabber tropicana-style korg polysix saw: anthem! on the flip parkzicht veteran dragon continues the euphoric vibes with his unique signature sound and makes you scream for endless happy days! a definite must have.

mosco fell asleep in tel aviv and awoke days later in berlin. this is his first offering for the esp institute. on side a, akachi plows straight in with its relentless rolling bassline, a thick blanket enveloping any and all breathing room. an array of squelches and atonal pads struggle to rise above the trudging rhythm, while live percussion slides in and out of frenzy. on the flipside, nobody else shows us moscos more ethereal side. beautifully programmed drums draw us in as the accentuated hi-hats and claves elegantly pierce rhythmic synth work, until finally were carried away by mystic keys layering in heavenly glissandos. these two songs will make you thirst for potent potions.

after last autumn’s ‘knowledge ep’, héctor oaks returns to key vinyl with four more solid dancefloor fillers of the kind we’re starting to expect from the berlin-based upstart. now several records deep and with his fourth berghain set firmly behind him, these days his sound is about as honed and gratifying as skills from the booth. and ‘kepler 186f’ is the proof.
on the a-side “dissolve” sets its sinews to march on this taut, tough and punchy number. “radial clicles” then reins in the muscle a bit in favour of a more skulking, spectral slow-build. meanwhile on the b-side, “stone storage” sends cool cymbals and crunchy hats on a sinuous, calculated romp. leaving “avoid reality” to close in noisy, bombastic fashion. but watch out—this one’s a bit of a tease.

i got to know gavin russoms music thanks to the amazing the days of mars album he recorded together with delia gonzalez now ten years ago on dfa records. flash forward to last year, when we released michele mininnis trippy endless ceremony. gavin russom loved that one and sent over a demo shortly after - youre listening to it now. i am really proud to be able to release an ep from such an extraordinary artist, enjoy! 1st pressing on splattered 12! james ross is a guitarist and composer living in brooklyn, n.y. originally from pittsburgh, pa., he has studied guitar at the university of pittsburgh and the mannes college of music in new york city. he has studied sitar with pandit krishna bhatt, and north indian classical music and composition with la monte young and marian zazeela. a composer in a variety of genres, james has written music for orchestral and chamber ensembles, as well as solo music for the guitar and the zhongruan (a type of chinese lute). he has also performed and recorded electronic and improvised music. recent performances as a composer and performer on the electric guitar, laptop and other instruments include sets at the bell house, at the small beast at the delancey with percussionist joseph benzola, a performance with kyle bobby dunn at issue project room, at pianos with richard lainhart, at glasslands gallery with michael vincent waller, at goodbye blue monday with david beardsley, providing live music for katherine liberovskaya and ursula scherrer’s optosonic tea series at diapason gallery in brooklyn, with video artist alex carpenter at the tank in manhattan, and at damrosch park at lincoln center as part of the guitar ensemble for rhys chatham’s “a crimson grail.” a recording of the -crimson grail- performance was released on nonesuch records on sept. 14, 2010. as a classical guitarist, james has performed as a soloist and ensemble player throughout the northeastern united states. he received a solo recitalist fellowship in 1992 from the pennsylvania council on the arts and won the 1993 mannes college of music concerto competition, resulting in a performance of joaquin rodrigo’s “fantasia para gentilhombre,” at symphony space in new york city.

embezzlement society takes us back to the early days of 80s hip-hop with his ‘rough quarters ep. on his record the man from belfast heavily relies on funk-based drum loops as were popular in the glorious days of old school hip-hop. the results are two super casual tracks with a cool hip-house attitude just perfect for hip-house lover drei farben house who took the chance to contribute a remix in his slick and smooth style, merging the raw drums with some tender rhodes. tenderpark regular roman rauch finishes off the ep and slows down the tempo in his remix concentrating on the originals of the samples and displaying his mastery with the mpc once more. as always all tracks have been mastered and cut by helmut erler at dubplates & mastering.

this is how it started focuses heavily on the early days of the chicago sound, especially in the formative years at ron hardy s music box. vinyl sampler 5 of a comprehensive journey in the essence of chicago house music is set to feature nightlife unlimited, weedyma, ooft! & jessie funk.
