since 2009, vincent koreman a.k.a. drvg cvltvre has been working on his own blend of dystopian acid, no wave and dooms day deephouse , which he proved impressively on his release on crème organization or porn wax. for his permanent vacation release he is perfecting his methods and style , which is equally influenced by suicide, sun ra and terrence dixon. on remix duties for -night time is the right time- is original chief rocker and omar s protégé ob ignitt who puts some extra swing on top and makes sure that it is always the right time for this one.

make no mistake, for vault series 15 the doors have been flung open to welcome a new act to the fold. theres very little known about mistake made. no records or releases exist to date, but they have impressed vault chief subjected enough to have them join the sequestered berlin-based crew. and in sublime compliance with the vault series creed, this debut effort from the shadowy outfit presents yet another set of functioning and frill-free dancefloor material, complete with a rusted-through hue of its own. on the a-side >wrist< jumps straight in with marching intent, complete with fidgety hat work thats both anxious and infectious. then on the flip, >ricochet< opens with field recordings tossed into a stormy concoction of ticks, hats and fuzzy atmospherics, teamed up here with one of those basslines that will keep you glued to the floor. >indec< then concludes in signature vault series style an ominous, growling number rattled with alarm bells and screeching, clangorous detail. its one of those monstrous slow-burners that leaves you wounded yet longing for more. all in all, a rounded first release from a new techno tour de force. this isnt the last we will be hearing from mistake made.

delft is delivering more sick acid tunes! this time its delft s chief la-4a on duty and giving us some advanced modern acid jackers. we cant get enough of some good old traditional tracks, but its always extra exciting to hear someone who can give it a new contemporary twist. 4th release on delft records and from the first release (cat-000) its spot on! recommended.

the multi-talented vanese smith aka pursuit grooves makes her debut on deepblak under her new 91 fellows moniker. after establishing herself in recent years with pursuit grooves outings heavy in beats and bass, smith turns her talents to more open sonic landscapes. >91 fellows< represents as she terms her push into cinematic dub leaning heavily on her collegiate film major roots. the project was inspired as a dedication to her grandfather who passed on in 2011. through a myriad of ambient textures, and percussion she invites the listener to join her as she weaves through different emotional headspaces. six tracks that run like chapters of saga accompanied by two remixes by deepblak chief alchemist aybee, and resident rhythm czar afrikan sciences.

summer is here people and ovum recordings are about to kick start the season with yet another label debut from dirty channels & bugsy. and this time it already comes recommended. techno takes a back seat as the label continue their stunning run of house releases with alone. label chief josh wink had asked house don, dave pezzner if he had anything in the locker for ovum. having just completed his own rework of alone, he sent it across and within minutes the ovum crew had fallen for its charms. josh actually tweaked the original pezzner remix for his own sets and before long has snapped up the whole release for ovum. dirty channels team up with longtime friend bugsy on the deliciously smooth alone. with their warm bassline, velvety synth and the sultry vocals of amina, the trio have delivered the perfect summer soundtrack. with a brace of mixes from wink backed with a reworked and refreshed double from pezzner, ovum are ready to turn up the heat. enjoy!

short stories is the fruition of musical ideas brought forth by label owner / chief producer gabriel ananda and multitalented instrumentalist and vocalist alice rose. the two of them have come together to resurrect a project from 2001 and have put together a colorful mix of strings, vocals, and melodies. there is something familiar and comforting in the sound of this ep. it could be roses strings, which were introduced with her debut for basmati food for dreams (basmati 06), or elements of anandas live series, there is an aspect to the sound that just fits. ananda and rose have delivered the complete package. the a-side opens with the not-so-short short stories, a fourteen minute evolving trip covering the scope of both producers’ talents. the b-side contains two versions of “struck by light. the techno version comes with power and emotion, crafted for the dance floor, which is followed by the deeper, original version recorded for the first time in 2001.

for the boxer jubilee, we have organised a top-class heavyweight fight: martin eyerer, head of kling klong, and florian meindl, chief of flash recordings, have entered into the boxing ring for a two-round title fight: in the first round, >the rush< — supported by tactical advice given by the trainer — is a fast and merciless series of left jabs followed by sappy, powerful uppercuts and hooks that leave the opponent completely unprotected. gong after a short break, the referees gives the command box, and the showdown starts again: >slow groover< is as light-footed as muhammad ali at his best: always on its toes, full of grace, and with surprising and powerful left-right punch combinations that often end up in a clinch. and with resounding applause, a technically ambitious two-round fight is over, and there are no losers, only winners. so, raise your fist, get your boxing belt on, and meet you on the dance floor…

the fifth release on baud music is the 2029 ep by dario zenker aka 4.26 from munich. distorted dub imitations rooted in a rhythmic foundation, supplemented with penetrating driving shakes, shape the character of the first track the chief. a floating, thumping bass line and claps with elegant dreamy strings characterize the second track least one on the a side. the flip side welcomes us with sherhood with his straight solid beat and a dominant, catchy hook. alen combines dubtechno and dupstep into free-floating wave elements and obscures the perception of the 4/4 time, which transfers the listener into a state of suspense.

dance music legend chez damier dusts down this past murmur hit by commander in chief geddes and mic newman to produce two house versions. chez damiers alternative remix is already setting the dancefloor of the panorama bar ablaze due to solid support from the ever excellent cassy. with its rolling groove, shuffling percussion and tough drums it looks set to be a staple in many more djs boxes over the following months. chezs flute mix loosens up the percussion and injects a slightly deeper musical feeling and makes it a more than worthy alternative choice.

a 2nd, killer presentation of assured nigerian and ghanaian highlife classics selected by the good, good people at vampi soul. it features nineteen tracks by essential artists of the genre such as et mensah & the tempos, dr victor olaiya, prince nico mbarga, dr sir warrior, and rex lawson, plus extensive notes by experts, rita may and max reinhardt, and artist photos.

here at bearfunk hq we firmly believe in perseverance. we keep asking questions until we get the right answer and with 6ft bear by our side the answer is usually yes. we kept asking ilija rudman to get in the studio and write us a killer lp but being the busy bee that he is it was hard for him to take the time out. we kept asking until he eventually caved in and went underground to record his first lp, >the reveal<. ilija is a devoted and passionate man when it comes to music. one of his prerequisites for recording an lp was that the recordings had to be made with the same techniques and equipment that inspired him to make music in the first place. so ilija hooked up with one of his studio mentors and got his dream line-up of synthesizers, roland jupiter 4 & 8, minimoog, roland sh2, juno 60 and his dream drum machines linn and oberheim dmx. these analogue machines fire up to create a warm and authentic vibe across the whole lp. we are reminded here that machines do have soul if used properly. we start proceedings with the wigged out boogie of >inspectors drive< which might be a little nod in the direction of wally badarous classic chief in< have all the ingredients of dj friendly hits. the lp reveals all the influences that ilija has experienced and it shows the talent that runs inside him as he is able to make such an amazingly retro lp sound like something from the future. we are sure in years to come this lp could become as important as the influences that inspired mr. rudman to make it.

although the damage music berlin label is still in its youth, the creative input is not holding its breath too long: after the success of the damage release dirty doering >loco remixes<, this issue presents a new 12ep that puts even more excellent and fresh urban breath into modern club music. first up is >whats the point?<, a collaboration with label chief alexander kowalski together with jake the rapper. by teaming up with jake the urban electronic guerilla, a cunning and highly-effective headbanging is produced, harvesting a moody and darkly infectious spoken text. >it all boils down< ... what unfolds here is an intense yet uncluttered soundtrack surrounding a mystifying message of sexually metapysical proportions crafted and totally engaging.

mark mcguire operates chiefly as guitarist in the legendary emeralds. however he also has racked up an impressive set of solo releases over the last few years (albeit mainly in small to micro print runs). living with yourself is his new album and we at editions mego hope to meet any demand which may arise from this fine selection of modern crafted guitar tunes. focusing on his family, early friendships and the problems that inevitably develop through years of knowing someone, it takes mcguires sound even further out, and contains some his most accomplished songs to date. the opening track is fine example of mcguires magic technique of taking a lone acoustic guitar then transforming the track into bliss-out electro wash looping off into the distance. and tracks like clouds rolling in and brain storm take off where such mcguire classics as the marfa lights (which incidentally is planned for a future reissue) left off. while connoisseurs of his sound will find all they desire in here, many superb surprises await around every corner. these are songs that cruise, bubble and rise to the top.
