luke slaters mote-evolver label is enjoying an impressive run of form. having chalked up one of the standout cuts of the autumn in the shape of cari lekebuschs >spindizzy< and dropped two floor-shaking futuristic techno megabombs from ortin cam (>carnage< & >felt<) either side of the new year there can be little doubt that the long-standing label is as relevant now as it ever has been.
one of the key players in finlands techno scene, samuli kemppi has a reputation for making forward-thinking, boundary blurring electronic music. coming up to his tenth year as a producer, his knack for blending the best of the past with cutting edge sounds has seen samuli appear on labels as diverse as ovum, siesta, komisch and prologue, providing all the credentials necessary to understand why samulis style has consistently drawn attention from all corners.

even well after its may release, damian lazaruss superb debut album, >smoke the monster out<, is still ringing in the ears of those who anticipated one of dance musics most colorful personalities debut album. his third single features two mixes of one of the albums most infamous tracks, >diamond in the dark<. these two mixes - by mr. lazarus himself and dop - keep the diamond out all night, way past its bedtime, and carousing on until the morning light.

side a: features �depth of my soul� soulful and deep house blend in this down tempo jam. but slower bpms only add style and atmosphere to the track. side b: where is the compassion - the soulful component is still pretty strong yet. it designs a journey through feelings, typical of a warehouse rave. again echoes of a recent past, still very poignant. vibes reveals a more jazzy/boogie ambient. to many ears those vibes shared are not mysterious at all in the origin. still this is a very cool, current adaptation to the dancefloor. massive release!!

one of the most in demand tracks from the >technique< album finally gets a full single release complete with re-fixes from prosumer and kruse & nuernberg. ernestos vocal fully lends itself to the prosumer soundsignature, his mix floats and weaves around ernestos vocal, peaking around his own chords before stripping things back to bare essentials and rebuilding like only he can. the kruse& nuernberg mix is hypnotic, percussive old school house music at its best. they take a small snippet of the vocal and build the groove relentlessly until the whole room is shaking. achim brandenburg aka prosumer lives in berlin where he is resident at panorama bar, weaving together the finest blend of soulful house sounds. an expert in classic chicago house and detroit techno, his first release was in 2004 on 240 volts, followed by playhouse and ostgut, where he released his debut album with murat tepeli in 2008. separately, hamburg based florian kruse & nils nûrnberg have created some of the most interesting deep house around in the past few years, with early highlights incl nils >caught a glimpse< on 8bit, and florians >love hurts< release on om records. since then, as solo producers, but more importantly together as kruse & nûrnberg they have climbed closer to the tree-top with their unique brand of mouth-watering underground house.

nope, this man is not a legend, yet! however he is in fact legendary already for his notorious live sets as well as a wide range of groundbreaking styles and sound he designed apart of the consensus way in the last 15 years.with his now presented astrodymics part1, richard bartz deals similar to the subway concept again with his past and transfers these late nineties space-disco drafts into the wonderful here and now. he delivers vivid funk-supercharged house which is at the same light as a feather and for sure a very sudatory matter.

the idea of this first maracana was to include the past, present and future of the musical style of suruba, edit tracks from some of the classics in suruba as tigerskin or spektre or even los suruba themselves, artists that have worked well and with whom we are bound in a great friendship like marc depulse and these who are going to a new sound as it is the case with uner.

the title track, lost in shibuya, is perhaps our favorite track from the album. its a very evocative track, a 7 minute journey that revolves around a killer bassline, that captures the trancey techno vibe that made some of the most glorious moments of nineties techno. on the flip side, we asked one of our favorite producers to deliver a remix. his name is quarion and as part of drumpoet community, he is responsible for some of the best deep house sounds of the past years, and is one of the leaders of the neo deep house movement. quarion blessed us with a tribute to mood ii swing that is his dub infected killer usuki shinrin mix.

the waiting is finally over! after all the ups and downs of the past year, we can happily report that joshua eustis now firmly intends to continue telefon tel aviv as a solo project. in order to mark his decision with a bang, thewonderful title track >immolate yourself< is being released as the second single from the current lp. the song has been entrusted to highly acclaimed and diverse remix artists who have skilfully stripped down the epic album track to more club-friendly formats.
the a side is delivered by label-mate thomas muller, whose finely detailed techno soundscapes can now be enjoyed on five bpc 12 inch releases. his >immolate< remix takes a much more direct approach. he reduces the lush arrangement of the original to a powerful basic framework, leaves out the vocals almost entirely, and creates a surprise when the track crumbles into sonic chaos towards the end.
miss fitz aka maayan nidam has had singles released on labels including raum musik and freak n chic, and these have been remixed by renowned artists such as ricardo villalobos. her version of >immolate< also makes a clear break from the album track and serves up her very own brand of abstract, dancefloor-friendly house. once again, all the opulence of the original is thrown overboard, a dry beat is placed at the centre of the arrangement and enriched with sinuous vocals.
ben klock needs no further introduction - he is the epitome of the bleak, hard minimal sound. his album >one< is currently available on ostgut ton, and as a remixer he has earned the highest acclaim for his version of depeche modes >peace<. bens >jack mix< is fittingly titled and lives up to all the expectations of the name. the track is stripped back to a resounding, hammer-like beat framework - minimised for maximum effect.
bpitch legend sascha funke delivers a surprise with another astoundingly reduced remix, at least by his standards. he turns away from the melodic richness of his current album >mango< in favour of repetitive fragments and an extended arc of tension which will surely make his >immolate< remix a massive after-hour hit.

clone classic cuts continues to dig in the crates to bring back forgotten or obscure records from the past! this is 3 tracks by da posse (produced by hula... one of the outthere brothers... and with maurice joshua, k fingers & martell). strings & its my life are chicagos take on detroit techno... a rare release that sounds like a early derrick may record (think the dance) but maybe slightly more straight forward (as one might expect from chicago). a rare piece in house and techno history since this is one of the rare examples of a record that doesnt show the clear difference between chicago and detroit in the late 80s. this record most likely got produced within 1 year after rhythm = rhythms legendary nude photo and strings of life releases (both 87 and this came out in 88). as extra bonus track we have the groove. a phat bass driven chicago acid track that still rocks it. another fine piece of powerful dance music history back in the spot light!

played by karotte !!! with his newest ep on wagon repair (ghosts in the ai - wag058), mathew jonson looks to both the past and future to create a stunning release. track 1 - ghosts in the ai - is the first solo production that was made in wagon repairs new berlin studios. finally, in a real place to work, and with a lot of new gear to play with, mathew focuses on evoking both the future and technology to wonderful affect. track 2 - technology - comes from mathews past as it was created around the same time as tracks like octagon came out on iiwii. originally, it was going to be the first cut on his debut album that he was planning to release. on the day that mathew was looking for a b-side track for the ghosts in the ai ep, his brother, nathan (hrdvsion), played it over the phone asking him why he had not released it, as it was one of nathans favourites. it worked much better than the other track that was going to be on here so thanks, hrdvsion. track 3 - the alchemist - comes from mathews involvement this summer producing the music score for the old classic silent film faust, which was screened, complete with cobblestone jazz playing the score live, at the 2009 timewarp festival. the alchemist was written for the scene when faust is working in his laboratory then walks out into the snow to summon the devil to help with his work. a fitting piece indeed!

lets have fun! - thats the mantra of big zis and the crew of nation music. the swiss black music label has been broadening its musical spectrum over the past years. just like the artist big zis, whose music could most likely be labeled electro pop alternative punk rap, they dont care about common conventions.while rap becomes more and more pimped out, house loopier and minimal narrow-minded, big zis hooks up with a top-class troupe to get it her own way.for her most recent album und jetz � (and now �) she worked with marton di katz and valentino tomasi (both members of kalabreses famous rumpelorchester), who laid the musical foundations for most of the songs. for the impulsive electro on the track suure räge (acid rain) however, big zis collaborated with the techno producer michal ho (tuningspork) at the studio. suure räge got remixed by several well-known producers: robag wruhme (freude am tanzen) and canson (gs zürich) are to be found on volume 1 and the soul brothers lexx (aka kawabata / drumpoet) and kalabrese (stattmusik) successfully combat boredom on volume 2. the sound scapes of the remixes couldnt be any more diverse and cover a broad variety of styles. and be sure: volume 3 - work in progress - will delight you as well!

the title of max coopers stochastisch serie ep, refers to his use of stochastic methods, also known as non-deterministic, or random methods of sound generation. stochastic elements referring here mainly to real sounds including vocal experiments and sampled sounds which create a complexity and richness which has been a trademark of many well known traum releases in the past. the london based artist max cooper sees his new 12 inch as a construction of different moods going beyond club music, as witnessed in the past through tracks such as i and end of reason. it is no surprise that dischordance is another one of these timeless pearls alongside these mentioned tracks that have created a fan base worldwide for him. the friction max generates is created by two sides colliding, the synthesised drums and melodies and the random experiments with voice. his dance floor rockers stochastisch serie and mnemonic work in a much more functional way but do include bits of this randomness and therefore are part of the superstructure stochastisch serie. the remix of uk producer leeks is very hip in style and sound and will please a lot of younger djs who love the cool swing and groovyness with music and will find the functionlism here going very strong.

next 12 inch on the new sub-label by munich-based gomma records for their output of club-focused 12 inch maxis - telonius gets the remix-treatment by zombie nation and moulinex !!! with his project telonius, jonas imbery one of the 2 chiefs of gomma records is returning to his musical roots - early house music from the 80ies and 90ies. his inspired dj-sets convey a dense and rich musical texture, spanning from frankie knuckles warehouse inspired retro house and loft-style disco music to brand new club productions. never sounding stuck in the past, but with both feet firmly based in the current musical streams of electronic club sound, which also shows in the productions for telonius.

no much is known about the new kid in the playground ladzinski, but what we do know is that he has his own sound placed firmly between the different schools of proper house music. he steps up to the plate to deliver a true gem of a first release with four varied but very modern house tracks, there are elements of chicago, new york, detroit and berlin spread across the whole ep. spacey chords, deep sub-bass and snappy drums give this ep a real warm feel for the dance floor.
