the cocoon recordings very own inhouse compilation series dots and pearls is back once again and takes us on a tour to the expected sounds of the upcoming spring season. frankfurt based christian burkhardt starts the selection of four exclusive and previously unreleased tracks. his -karambolage- breathes spring air and creates an early summer feeling par excellence. this tune will even turn gray and rainy april weather into bright sunlight. on spot with playful and positive harmonies and a very subtle 80 s synthie-pop flavour. this one here definitely makes us want more! next in line is argy, one of our most long standing cocoon recordings artists. his -how late it was, how late- has an undeniable 80s retro charm, too however it follows a completely different direction than burkhardts -karambolage-. this one refers strongly to an early 80s acid sound and reminds us of great productions such as -on and on- by jesse saunders. we cannot tell how far argy s reminiscences goes back but for the ones who know: -how late it was, how late- will bring you back to the great times of labels like rams horn and their rational youth s -dancing on the berlin- wall. brave and surprising at the same time and above all: -übercool-! with -baroon- by markus fix follows another acid track - however, this one has a far more epic flavour full of warm analogue strings and based on a hypnotic arrangement. fix -baroon- is defintely less retro than argys and burkhardts contributions - a deep tech house gem made for the first sunrises of the upcoming allnighter open airs. with -euphrasia- jim jules accelerates slightly but goes also deeper at the same time. his production follows the cinematic mood of markus fix but paints a darker picture. this one takes us on an intensive musical journey. deep, slightly gloomy and extremely hypnotic, -euphrasia- is almost captivating and bewitching and a perfect conclusion for this highly diversified fourtracker.

it’s a match made in heaven, techno veteran dino sabatini meets up and coming talent luigi tozzi, who over the last couple of years has delivered stellar eps for the likes of hypnus records, dynamic reflection, mental modern, and sabatini’s own outis music. anyone familiar with the two will know they share an aptitude for adventurous and evolving techno. this is crystallised in this collaboration, which doesn’t take the easy path of creating straightforward club tracks. instead, the three tracks on this release explore the subtler sides of the two producers. that’s not to say this isn’t club music - it is - but they have a lot more to offer than pure functionality. the ep opens with manticora. this eight-minute experience takes the listener through winding claustrophobia as ringing feedback pulses across the stereo field and cavernous rhythms dance about, hard to quite grab. these rhythms build to a point to which they solidify and fall into place, a point at which the track gains a feeling of propulsion, alongside shifting and emotive reverberations and resonances. next up is celeno, a track that slowly unravels under a backing of shuffling hats and a rolling kick drum. twinkling synths swirl around before giving way to a rhythmic and compelling melody. celeno’s musical themes continue into the third and final track, aello, which eases you in with softer drums while a haunting drone builds up. over this, ghostly arpeggios develop alongside weightier drums that carry the track through until the end, leaving just enough time for the drone to ring out and provide a fitting end to the ep.

san francisco based dj al lover’s list of collaborations contain names like the brian jonestown massacre, goat and white fence, and he has remixed bands like the night beats and thee oh sees. except from producing mind-altering music, al lover is also the official dj of levitation and tours europe extensively.
al lover’s double album release zodiak versions on hoga nord rekords (2015) opened up for a beautiful cooperation between the label and the artist and now the two parts are taking it to the next level with the release of the nymphaea caerulea ep. on this picture disc ep, a third player flavors the music and that is cairo liberation front (clf).

we are proud to announce that andreas tilliander is back on echocord after 15 years. this march sees echocord release the ofog ep comprising three original productions from swedens andreas tilliander. stockholm based andreas tilliander is a name thats been synonymous with the underground electronic music scene for a while now, from his contribution to the glitch genre in the early 1990s through to winning a swedish grammy and producing under various monikers creating a variety of sonic art. this includes his previous echocord released lowfour alias, the raster.noton seminal moikra cliphop album and his more recently explored tm404 project which has seen him release on skudge and kontra-musik. tillianders ofog ep kicks off with an upfront and club leaning track entitled storet, which is driven by deep kicks and crisp hats that both sit tightly at each end of the mix, leaving room for twisted chords and delayed synth swells to fill the gap. next up comes the fine dub-tinged and spacious aesthetic of oliveros, where ethereal textures glide freely alongside the live-sounding tape delayed drums, accompanied by a deep, weaving sub. closing the package is risset, in which a half time bass line chugs alongside vibrantly saturated percussion escorted by dubby chords and glitchy atmospherics.

wotnot are proud to unveil another new exciting artist, songwriter/producer william florelle, who follows in the footsteps of previous debutantes like k15 (who features here), glenn astro, deft and many other now established (or quickly establishing) artists. the will flo project aims to deliver unique collaborations with each output, evolving to suit the combined inspiration of william and his collaborators. while he names a staggering variety of musical styles among his influences, this release takes the form of a highly swung, left-field r&b, with jazz and afro-beat influences. think 22a with more pronounced r&b flavours.

dutch producer nathan surreal debuts on biologic records with ?star dust? featuring remixes from adesse versions and neville watson. exploring abstract, ?surreal? and melodic electronic sounds, the dutchman is a perfect addition to the biologic roster. appearing on a host of underground labels since 2014, nathan is set to make a breakthrough with ?star dust’ balancing on the edge of reality and pushing further into the abstract and surreal worlds ?star dust? unfolds through waving synths and dubby bass lines ??? is a darker track, the bassline punchier and driving acid-tinged synths create a dance-floor ready record. next up ?human music? has a more minimal introduction, building in intensity as the synths come through until finally the melody drops, maintaining the dreamy top line that nathan is so adept at maintaining. neville watson provides the first remix on the ep, he adds reverb to the vocal, amplifying its effect on the track. star dust is intensified, perfect for late night, or early morning, dance floors. addesse version?s remix of ?star dust? is a twisted acid remake, a left-field and off kilter beat is slowed down to a psychedelic swirl, pulsating throughout the track.

when words fail, music has the ability to depict the deepest of human emotions and once again kidnap kid uses his signature emotive and sophisticated production to do just that. he returns to birds that fly, the label he founded less than a year ago with brokenhearted an ep containing two original tracks. brokenhearted is a reaction to the immense sadness in the world. my way of processing endless tragedy and distant despair. mist, on the other hand, is a more hopeful response, a faraway light at the end of the tunnel - kidnap kid. musicians have been making music about love and heartbreak for hundreds of years and kidnap kid’s statement on the eternally relevant topic starts with brokenhearted ,a track that taps into the memory vaults. next up is mist whose simple melody is layered over intricate sounds to create an immensely absorbing track. the start of 2016 saw kidnap kid launch his birds that fly imprint as a platform for his own music as well as a means to support like minded producers, such as applebottom and amtrac, both releasing on the label with great success. the labels debut release was from kidnap kid himself and moments was met with such high acclaim it collectively reached 10 million streams, 1.3 million of those coming from spotify and subsequently made the spotify chart in over 10 countries. it was championed by several radio 1 djs and was the closing record for many, including maceo plex who closed his set at crssd festival with the track.

mjm would like to present locations: usa, the vinyl and cassette edition as we continue to explore the sounds, influences and styles of jazz music in different regions of the world.
in this session we hear the result of each jouster as they each chose one or more jazz musicians from the united states and began to work with that sound and come up with an instrumental in their own style, just like in season four. however there was a twist, this time they were challenged to focus on jazz between the years of 1960 to 1969. see what you think of the outcome...

next up on aficionado, is something a little bit different…bendith are a collaborative welsh four piece, comprising of carwyn ellis from colorama (who recorded hapus for ‘nado back in 2012) and elan, marged and gwilym rhys from plu. following the folk-pop vein of bendith’s album released in october 2016, the ep includes 3 brand new tracks and two tracks - ‘dinas’ and ‘mis mehifin’ from the self-titled album.two of the new songs include welsh language adaptations of old classics, ‘can am gariad’ is a version of the lesley duncan tune, ‘love song’, specially requested by aficionado recordings’ moonboots, who obsessively collects versions of this song. ‘hwiangerdd takeda’ is a version of the traditional japanese song, ‘takeda lullaby’ and is inspired by the 1969 rendition by akai tori, the vocal folk group from japan. bookending the ep is ‘dan glo’, a lovely and mystical music-box demo instrumental. all tracks retain the stunning vocal harmonies and instrumental arrangements which have marked out bendith as a unique and very special musical prospect.

following his first ep for accidental jnr in the summer bambooman is now back with something entirely different. the downtempo experimental designs of the ‘feel ep’ give way to his latest offering ‘shudder’. available on 12” and digital the 4 tracks of shudder weave through a club music tapestry like a chainsaw through custard. the opening and title track is hard to describe, a mix of off kilter synth stabs and hammering snare that routes you to the floor - it’s one of those tracks to whip out of your bag to remind the crowd they have no idea what is coming next. track 2 ‘grasp’ with a blissful detroit groove under deep rich melting chords is a perfect blend of early funk house style and super crisp new production. side b opens with ‘m1’ a lazy floor track with washes of bells, static and detuned synth above a bed of solid kick and shuffling bass. finally ‘kyrian’ closes proceedings, another club friendly slice (despite being in a 7&#8260.8 time signature), the track could have led the ep in its own right but feels like the perfect bookend with its shifting almost garage like 2-step feel and glancing vocal hook.

mihai popoviciu has carved out a reputation for being one of the most innovative producers of electronic music active in europe today. the man from romania has established himself both as a highly respected producer releasing on labels such as highgrade, international gigolo and dessous and as a killer dj performing all over the world. fiction is his 4th release on poker flat recordings, and delivers four distinct flavours to sink your teeth into. i should is a slinky groover, with a slippery, evolving bassline, tight, funky percussion and a sultry female vocal. working just as effectively early in a set as a peak time moment, its bound to get rinsed in the coming months. twisted is a little harder - a straighter beat signals a more heads down approach, and the bassline is sure to trigger some dancefloor scenes wherever it gets played. next up is title track fiction which perhaps makes a reference to mihai’s background, with fragments of eastern european melodies woven into the beautiful synth work, all tied together over a spacey yet driving rhythm track. last but by no means least is interconnected - a straight up deep bomb with echoes of classic chicago deep and acidic house in its warm and sensual vibe.

boogie café black s next outing gives you reworks of some stone cold classics from undisputed truth and james brown and mrs shaw, on side a, -mannmademusic- brings the deep disco house vibe with reworks of undisputed truth and james brown. flip it over for some marlena-inspired slinky business. jank s version is slow and dirty, while the mannmademusic remix takes it up a notch so you can take it to the dancefloor. early support from neil diablo, noel watson, rahaan, john morales, dj nature and deli g.

mentha records steps up with a various release called into yourself featuring four emotive compositions that span the deep house spectrum. tides by michael lovatt starts the 12inch with lush chords and a deep baseline that gives off a warm feeling. kareem ali is up next with arnaldo tamayo mendez, a sensual track that is packed full of frequencies as ali shows off his harmonic and arrangement skills. the flip side begins with an anaxander piece called unspoken , with an emotive motif that displays homage to a classic deep house sound. michael zucker is holding up the last leg with together, this melancholy tune seeps its way slowly into your cells through an invasion of warm tones. into yourself is a solid 12inch for the deep house soldiers.

berlin collective away ready the 4th release in their catalogue. with 001 on the label being a va, 002 being an ep from joe claussell & mr.ties as away soundsystem and 003 being a second va - they now present a split 2-tracker from label mainstay move d and his pairing with jonah sharp under their collaborative guise of reagenz. whilst keeping an anchor at berlin’s about blank, away have hosted parties at numerous other venues across the city as well as barcelona and throughout have maintained a welcoming and free spirited attitude. harnessing this attitude and channeling the collectives detroit influences, away have developed their imprint which has so far taken shape over a set of 3 analogue-heavy vas. next in line follows suit in melding tough drums with motor city pads. natural in their progression, both tracks spark ardour as they steadily develop adding another fine addition to a blooming catalogue.

spencer parker returns on his own imprint this march with a four-track track release as part two of the three part different shapes and sizes series. following on from the raw and stripped back house jam aesthetic as seen in part one, parker kicks off this techno release with size information a track with driving kicks, subtle atmospherics, and infectious panning percussion. next up is shape deviation, which hones in on a twisted 303 arpeggio and is saturated in white noise and backed up with entrancing drums, before shape fascination goes into full drum machine workout mode with off kilter 808 claps fuelled by a hypnotic synth bass line. size devotion rounds off the release with its raw and distorted kicks and simplistic yet effective mesmeric male vocal samples.

the next cosmos release comes from salomon dunkan, a mysterious and unknown producer who serves up two tantalising tracks... . android (adamantium mix) is a slow and percolating house track with a rugged acid line and sharp percussive knives cutting up the rubbery kick drums below. swirling pads add a cosmic atmosphere and there whole hits slowly but surely builds to a raging and intense peak of bristling hits and gurgling synths. it s controlled chaos and then tacchi a spillo treads a more direct path. again the high hats are bright and sharp, the mood is very sci-fi and the bass lines rumbled down low. like a deep space odyssey this one travels far and wide and grows ever more physical and jacking as it goes on.

how do you follow up a stone-cold afro funk classic like village boogie? simple. gather together some of the hottest players in nigeria, take them down to the phonodisk studios in ijebu igbo and let them loose on a bunch dancefloor fillers you spent the last four years ‘road testing’ in kaduna. and don’t forget to get lady franka and mariam pledge in on backing vocals. those girls know how to fire up a party. it helps, of course, if you’re steve ‘dudu’ black. steve had a god-given knack for writing combustible dance tunes and the contacts in the industry to get the likes of willy nfor, willy roy and felix lebarty to make them explode. from the opening track, ‘osasuima’, the heat never stops. on ‘no stopping me now’ and ‘ololufe/ stay the night’, it’s almost too hot to handle. polished in a studio in london while musical youth recorded pass the dutchie in the next room, happy birthday to u is the gift that keeps on giving – an irresistible blend of highlife, afro beat and afro funk that is guaranteed to start a party on any dance floor.

formed in late 2014, berlin-based irish/australian duo evvol released their debut album ‘eternalism’ via !k7 records in the summer of 2015. following european live runs with peaches and yacht and worn out by the immediacy of preset-sound achieved through popular computer music programs, the pair holed up in their kreuzberg studio to write their wonderfully atmospheric and deeply personal ‘physical l.u.v’ ep. released last year to critical acclaim, it’s title track has now been given the deluxe remix treatment it deserves, with new cuts from two dutch artists at the top of their game. panorama bar’s first lady and ostgut records mainstay steffi kicks things off with a unique, downbeat interpretation of the original, showcasing the beautifully melodic and captivating style that has cemented her status in the realms of contemporary electronic music. next up her fellow klakson records honcho ramps things up with his own audacious take on the track. dexter’s first brush with the electronic music world was on the dancefloor as part of a breakdance crew. back then he learnt the power of rhythm and how to move a floor, going on to release on clone, rush house and ostgut himself, producing everything from pioneering electro to deeper house and raw techno.

while unveiling the * mutant tournament* quartet last year, label boss nachtbraker was quietly hunting for new music behind the scenes. being the fine huntsman he is, he came out of the woods with sonic bits and bobs so delectable he had no choice but to spread them out over two brand new quartets. thats right, eight records in total, to be released over the course of the next 18 months. were delighted to introduce you to scott franka, whos at the helm of the first missive. this creative head from amsterdam has been making music since the tender age of 11, but it wasnt until he adopted his scott franka moniker that he really found his groove.

we are very happy excited to reveal to you the next installment of alfresco disco records. seka is a close friend and has played and raved at many of the alfresco disco parties. not only a great selector, here he clearly demonstrates he is no slouch in the studio either. from his studio in the heart of bristol, seka has used an analogue approach and his trusty mpc to carve out three satisfying, sample heavy house cuts that are unique and full of character. on the remix duties we enlisted the portugese maestro tiago, a resident at the brilliant lux club in lisbon who brings a live, percussive vibe to the release. enjoy!

catz n dogz continue to roll out their pets sub label step recordings and follow up a slew of soulheavy dance records from baltra, reno wurzbacher and the analog roland orchestra with a solo ep from fellow polish producer universo. with previous appearances on transatlantyk, the auspicious newcomer slots neatly into the step catalogue in presenting his ‘underworld’ ep: a package of softly glowing lo-fi that fans of baltras recent sophia ep on step will relish. underworld then unfolds at a steady, hypnotic pace as moody, interlocking chords and paired up with a gentle spoken vocal that work together to create a poignant, eyes-down mood. icy strings and a trippy spoken are introduced before kora buta follows up with some warm, swooning sample work. sleeper is next up as distant, meandering thumb pianos and rainy textures colour the tracks fuzzy drums while a glassy, legowelt-esque pad glides overhead.frequenza kicks things off a soft, sizzling pad sent ducking under a rock-hard kick drum.

dilated pupils is a collective group of likeminded friends from the netherlands each with their own influences and style, whom together have a distinct flavor in productionconsisting of analogue machines, tape noises, and raw one-take jam sessions. each of them have their own solo productions as well as other collaborations, but when united as dilated pupils prefer to be known jointly as one entity with their own unique and distinguished sound.
since 2014 the group has developed an interesting discography with releases on labels such as fear of flying, sol asylum, mode of expression, tabla, music is art, dorcas, make sense and mayak.

new label funky fungi preps its debut release for this march, featuring two original tracks from label boss georg stuby and his production trio the gravy underground. hailing from zurich switzerland, georg stuby is a longstanding house and techno dj, producer and teacher. his new creation, funky fungi is a vinyl based record label working as an outlet for georg and his friends to release their music. aside from the solo release, this ep also features the gravy underground, a collaborative project with georg’s friends christopher lawrenz & jonas, who already remixed one of georg’s tracks on his last formresonance ep. the opening track ‘metro bass’ has a dusty analog feel and delves into the depths with shuffling percussion and reverberated effects which spiral out of control, all saturated in white noise giving off the spatial aesthetic associated with an echo chamber. next up, the gravy underground production trio create a mystical journey in ‘keep it gravy’, as minimal kicks chug alongside off kilter hats and twisted vocal snippets that are delicately layered with field recordings.

2018 new years deal - following up on the long awaited -melody- / -stop fantasy- reissue from 2016, mothball record returns with a lesser known, but no less brilliant, double-sided disco bomb from plustwo. lighthearted and infectious melodies on both sides are matched with superb production and unmistakably beautiful vocals: this is no fast food but elegant music to enjoy for years to come. for years a favorite in the mothball record offices, yet strangely unknown by many, -mad radio- and -new sensation- will put some unexpected spark in your next disco set.

a mainstay in the underground house music scene for almost twenty years, joeski makes his next move on the mighty crosstown rebels with a sublime ‘tribute ep’ to the great divinity obatalá. the ep journeys through three tracks, where ethereal layers are used to infiltrate the dancefloor and varying tribal percussions, native chants and vocal haunts flow effortlessly throughout. from yoruba religion, obatalá is an orisha, sky father and creator of human bodies. joeski explains -i’ve been wanting to do this tribute for a while now. it’s a creative musical offering to obatalá. i feel like crosstown is the perfect home for it too.- joeski’s roots are in the underground house scene of nyc in the 90s, where he played regularly at historical clubs such as the limelight, tunnel, palladium and roxy. later establishing himself as a producer he began releasing music on nrk, siesta, shaboom, tango, junior boys own and many more. he also runs his successful label, maya records.

consistently unearthing a hotbed of new talent, hot creations next release is back to the music from dj and producer sooney. the release features two original tracks and a stellar remix from one of the biggest names in dance music, route 94. title track back to the music is an exhilarating record shaped through melodic synths and keys alongside a sharp bassline. route 94 strips back his remix to the bare groove. while the chugging beats of afraid of the dark bring the release to an accomplished close. london based sooney fell in love with house, hardcore & jungle in the early 90 s. in 2015 he set up his own label, take control records, gaining support from the likes of shadow child, jamie jones and gorgon city to name a few. since being discovered by the hot creations family, sooney’s sights are firmly set on big things for 2017. fellow uk artist route 94 shot into the limelight in 2012 with chart success and has since gone on to appear on labels including virgin, defected and crosstown rebels, and work with major names like katy b and jess glynne.

back on the selector tip, nyc loft trax compiles another volume of really nice deep, chunky and funky grooves! the a side promises a great selection with the first two tracks by kick that funk & bonjour sounding like a 1990 s chicago meets paris reunion! the 3rd track by subtle approach is created using deep dirty sliced and diced samples blended to perfection: stellar work. then there is a totally different vibe on the b-side starting off with a brazilian house groove by dubrazil surely influenced by the maw sound no doubt! next blackdub s classic disco meets detroit piece -melodies of dub- gives us a bit of theo parish or kenny dixon jr. feeling, hot! the final track by pascal cordoba is jazzy groove touched by australia s dj freestyle, who is on the radar lately due to the jordan fields & roy davis jr. warehouse find of -the session- on nu jack city records. you should have all 8 of the nyc loft trax vinyl at this point if not, why not?

nice price deal !!! y now you might know, komplike is a danish label with the imprint of quality, creativity and care. now it’s time for our third release. or next release is delivered by the two super talented producers michael sowbug and nicke, and comes with a remix by the romania minimal superstar marcman. first track on the ep is gewerden, a deep and minimal track, with dub effects and driving hi-hats. gerwerden is also the track that is remixed by marcman, and he contributes to the ep with a balearic banger, dominated by pulsing pads and crazy drums. the third track is also the title track of the ep, and it is a groovy banger called genua. forth track is genua in a more straight up tech house version.

the next 12 inch from departures records comes from croatian producer and low income squad label boss szch. after his well received releases on lll and his own imprint, he joins departures with an ep that boasts his trademark raw and distorted sound.

halocyan outlines computer musics many future possibilities, while remaining actively mindful of its one and only history. having released material from such luminaries as dosem, paul woodford, oliver ho, extrawelt, and joey beltram - halocyan continues to assert its influence with their next record: a 2-part ep from apollo and r&s affiliate dave angel. founder of rotation records and originally hailing from chelsea, angel is a techno emissary whose intelligent, funk-licked productions have propelled him through a long and illustrious career through which he has consistently branded his own stamp on electronic music whilst also remaining highly relevant to modern listeners. it’s this that lends him perfectly to a record with halocyan who do what they do best in presenting his incoming ep: a sincerely-rooted collection that comes backed up by label favourite hackman on remix duties. portrait kicks things off with jubilant melodies rippling atop sharp, whetted percussion before minor-key sweeps bleed in and bring with them a degree of pensive tension. a buoyant bass line propels the track from dave angel incoming ep beneath before hackman offers up a deftly swung revision rich with his sturdy subs and idiosyncratic percussive flutters.

the guys at pole jam vinyl have spent most of the last year involved in an undying quest to seek out new, exciting music. they would neither be stopped by the russian tundras nor the deserts of australia in their search. funnily enough, it was actually down-under they discovered sydney based duo falqo with their brilliantly chilled and melodic number across the sea . then, it really was across the sea they went, all the way to the ukraine, picking up sasha anastasov s laidback, groovy smasher sea for two . next up was a much shorter trip to moscow to collect gayana, a band very much on the rise whose since the night has been perfectly reinterpreted by pole jam s very own st. petersburg based all-stars klar&pf. pioneerball is the solo project of tesla boy s lead guitarist who makes his second appearance on pole jam vinyl. this time pioneerball contributes the stunning opening track deltaplane , a track influenced by obscure russian cinematic soundtracks. it s combined perfectly with a compelling disco groove, jazzy melodies and organic strings that will make your heart melt.

repress 2017 , allez! as the curtains come down on another crazy summer of love, apollonia drop their latest release courtesy of io mulen - the ukranian rude boy who appeared on the label at the beginning of the year with ‘unknown to the unknown’. he’s back with a hefty six-track package which is sure to please his fans, and win him a whole new army of supporters. we get straight to business with the first track, ‘rdm37’, one of those trusty apollonia bouncing bombs. skittish beats work off a sublime groove, while io keeps the background full of interesting sounds, boings, cheeps and all manner of whimsical effects, introducing more and more as the track progresses. by the midpoint you’re so gripped by the track that your whole body is moving uncontrollably, super glued to the rhythm. next up, it’s ‘xdt54’ coming through with a deep, persuasive bassline that jigs around in the low end luring you into its web. simple, polished percussive elements keep things moving at a pace while subtle keys and barely-there vocals add further layers to this catchy little number. the third track in on this lengthy ep is ‘mpc13’, a walk on the sensual side. vocal snippets are interspersed among sultry pads, skipping four to the floor beats and a sleazy b-line to create a delectable slice of dance floor naughtiness. this one flirts with you as it writhes around, taking you ever deeper…four tracks in we have ‘zgb41’, another alluring cut that has all the hallmarks of a deep house classic. those shimmering pads, a bassline that feels like it was born in nineties chicago, diamond-cut beats and a general feeling of what we would call ‘true house music’. there’s soul, there’s funk and there’s realness, what more can you ask for?ypt58’ keeps us locked in to that hypnotic groove with an insistent b-line holding things down - together with the infectious rhythm cultivated by the drum arrangement, it’s a killer combo. put those together with the smooth atmospherics plus synth lines staggering in and out of the background and you’ve got yourself a roller. last but definitely not least is ‘zxy22’, a wistful slice of technoid funk which has a delicate melody at its foundation. as it develops we get sucked in to layer upon layer of beauty, from the analogue low end to the electric guitar riff – each layer complementing the other and creating a symphony of sounds that acts as a perfect way to close out the ep and will no doubt end plenty of dj sets, when it’s released. so monsieur io (mulen) returns to apollonia with an instant classic, make sure you snap it up right away. magnifique!
