red red wine is a compilation album compiled by the jamaican producer brother dan, better known by his stage name dandy. the album consists of some of his most popular productions like tony tribe’s “red red wine” and israelites “games people play”. the reggae version of the neil diamond title song became a hit in the uk in the summer of 69. with his own showcase label downtown dandy entered the music world, including his popular release “reggae in your jeggae”.

2 sim is a phrase the references mobile phones with two sim cards to describe people of mixed heritage, dual nationality or multiple residence. after being called 2 sim in conversation with a stranger while on a walk through freetown (a recording of this moment features on the record) duval began to explore what the 2 sim experience is in contemporary west-africa. 2 sim ep was created from 2 months of field recordings and interviews with family, friends and peers in freetown sierra leone. these site specific recordings are collaged with solo piano recordings and production recorded in sierra leone and the uk. the ep is accompanied by a short film/ music video of the same name which duval shot and directed whilst making the record. 2 sim ep is the second release from carrying colour which follows on from 2017 s sen am -

the latest release on arma comes from dutch legend and devoutly deviant underground operator ruud lekx, aka rude 66. with a legacy that reaches back to the early 90s and the rough and ready dutch electro sound of bunker records and the hague, hes maintained a distinctly non-conformist approach that touches on acid, italo, techno and more besides, all finished with the punky attitude that sets him and peers like unit moebius and i-f apart. the tracks gathered together on the witch trials ep come from throughout lekxs career. as the artist himself says, tracks from wildly different eras and sessions suddenly can combine to form one coherent ep. its almost like the a-side tracks were waiting for 20 years to be combined with the b-side tracks. the overriding theme that binds together these timeless machine excursions is that of medieval witch trials a global phenomenon that peaked in the 15-1600s. considering the suspicion, propaganda and mass moral panic involved in this strange curio of distant history, lekx points to the parallels with the current age, of political polarization and fake news accusations flying all over. the ep title is also a tribute to two records close to his heart: the falls live at the witch trials, and the one-off witch trials project by members of the dead kennedys, adrian borland and christian lunch. werewolves & poisoners and the crusade against idolatry are both archive tracks from the 1994-5 period when lekx made his first albums for bunker records.

pal joey (aka joseph longo) came up in the heady days of new york street culture, amidst b-boying, boom boxes and an unusually entrepreneurial spirit of beat-making. beginning with crude “pause tapes”, he was soon making tracks with drum machines and sampled vocals, all painstakingly assembled with razors and reel-to-reel. working at vinylmania, where larry levan might be found shopping for records in his pajamas, helped joey’s entrance into the city’s nascent house music scene, and he was soon working with everyone from krs-one to sade to the orb, whose “little fluffy clouds” he tweaked for stateside tastes.

hijacked records detroit is feeling inspired after hearing new work from one of our favourite allies in techno, jules wells. we felt it was our duty to deliver this to the people, three new productions from jules with a guest remix from our own antwon faulkner. please enjoy - -silent orchestra.- the title track from jules really set the bar for this release. jules really understands story telling with music and this track transports you to a time in techno that was both hopeful and beautifully heart breaking. a persistent chord progression is wrapped in celestial synth harmonies filing up the space all around you and reaching in. that classic clap is underpinned with a touch of acid, creating an edge. at the 4:33 mark an enchanting and haunting sign wave tells a melodic tragedy. strings come in delicately but wash over you completely. this track is both stunning and devastating.

the remarkable second album, “indigo”, from singer and pianist kandace springs is a 13-track lp of originals and choice covers that showcases the full breadth of kandace’s artistry from smoldering r&b (“piece of me”) to gorgeous jazz ballads (“unsophisticated” featuring roy hargrove) to the pop songcraft of “breakdown” and “don’t need the real thing,” the album’s lead single which is out today. all but two tracks are produced by drummer/producer karriem riggins (common, erykah badu) with additional production by jamie hartman (rag n bone man), jimmy hogarth (amy winehouse, corinne bailey rae), jimmy harry (madonna, p!nk) and evan rogers and carl sturken (rihanna).

part 5 of 5 to be released over the coming couple of months. originally released on the phono label in 1995/96 the ‘parts’ series from matthew herbert are a much loved collection of house tracks that sound just as original and bold today as they did when they were first released. this series of 12”s were part of an early wave of exploratory dance music that paved the way for the deep house that still works its magic on dance-floors in 2018 some 25 years later. the mix of herbert’s playfulness alongside expertly grooving production and unusual sounds makes this unique collection of work. the odd few tracks aside this is the first time that these releases have ever been repressed. all newly remastered for this reissue series, the releases include stone cold club classics such as ‘deeper’, ‘take me back’, ‘resident’, ‘people that make the music’ and ‘see you on monday’.
