2019 repress - first recorded in 1983 under the name visual, boyd jarvis s cut the music got me is one of the first true house records. a staple on the 80s new york club scene, the visionary instrumental dub was played everywhere from the paradise garage to zanzibar, dance-floors packing to it s mix of throbbing bass and wooshes of analogue synth magic. at ransom note we ve long been obsessed with the record, so when house hunting s aiden d araujo interviewed boyd - and found out that we could license it - we jumped at the chance. now, we present the music got you sounding bigger and better than ever before. remastered from boyd s original tapes by keith tenniswood at curved studios, the music got me is pressed on limited edition, heavyweight vinyl for clarity and bass pressure. complimenting the original release come 2 completely new mixes the first is a dubbed out masterpiece from edit-king nick the record alongside dan tyler of the idjut boys. between them they take the essence of jarvis s original and tease it out into a cavernous disco killer. next up comes bawrut man behind ransom notes debut release, the nu-acid anthem ciquita. bawrut does what he does best, throwing in latin percussion, layers of screwball 303 burbles, and a sense of joy, all whilst keeping boyd s original bass groove rolling.

alex font has many strings to his bow, not least running the excellent acme label, and here he is on one of his other ventures, third stream. with improvisation placed at the forefront of the creative process, font turns out functional club tracks with curious kinks and moments of intrigue worked into the structure. onda tropical is definitely dj friendly with its insistent percussive framework, but there are interesting diversions, fills and edits peppered throughout. musica moderna (cds tribute) meanwhile rolls on a more consistent groove, with a more organic set of drums pitched right at the heart of a long and winding dj set

2019 repress! stuttgart based producer detmolt returns to underyourskin records for his second ep, ‘memories’, on the label this year. the ep’s name giving track is a downtempo synth led pleasant fellow accompanying its listener through the different seasons of the year that are reflected by the various changes of chords within the track that still manage to connected each change in harmony. the ep’s second track, ‘madlen’ is also dedicated to the label’s downtempo sound and starts off with an detailed enriched synth before a nodding bass sets in and defines the groove and pace of the track. in the course of the track the catchy synth is loosend and supported by piano chords as well as diverse soundscapes in the same tonality. ‘kaos’ hits off strong with a lead synth that changes within the course of the track and is subbed by different chords in the treble and bass frequencies to spread its atmospheric soundscapes on all possible musical levels. the ep’s last track comes from paul valentin who remixes ‘madlen’. paul’s approach highlights the given synthchords which are worked into dreamy yet fordward going soundscapes that still keep the original’s downtempo vibe but makes you lose your mind higher spheres.
