nice price deal !!! >a night on the wonk< is on an experimental tip with highly addictive horn and chime hooks. the gemmy remix takes the chime section, gives it some of the well known purple treatment and turns it into a highly distinctive but slightly sickly intro. i say sickly but thats perhaps because i have listened to it a lot of times in a fairly short period of time. however we are then treated to a bleepy roller with moderate variation to keep things interesting. this makes it perfect for an early set or casual listening. >detached reality< crackles its way through some haunting vocals and evil guitar riffs creating a tense but soothing atmosphere ? detaching you from reality, sinking you into your seat while your mind starts to play tricks with itself. what are we really here for?

incredilbe package with remixes by schatrax, kink, todd sines as .xtrak, kink and the subliminal kid. the result of schatrax take is a typically beautiful and deep reworking. todds remix of dodaso is typically fucked up and funky in true .xtrak style. kinks version of the gauntlet remains quite faithful to the original whilst also instilling it with his own trippy and unique style. last year peder mannerfelt, aka the subliminal kid, sent me a track which became the only track released on off-key through a demo submission. blackwood freestyle has mutated under the hands by the subliminal kid into a rolling dub inflected groover.

manuel tur has been making some great music recently, whether it be as one half of the ribn project with partner langenberg, on numerous remixes alongside dplay or solo on a variety of labels such as mild pitch, pokerflat, freerange, mule music, drumpoet and now delusions of grandeur. fianchetto opts for a dark, spaced-out and deeply hypnotic vibe full of warm, subby disco beats, shimmering rhodes and echoing horns. a masterful production from manuel that is loaded with atmosphere and sounds mighty on a big system. next up we have beasts and the birds which goes for a heavy looped up disco approach full of raw detroit sensibilities and attitude. finally, tim toh (much respected and sickeningly young german producer releasing on soulphiction’s philpot label) stretches out beasts and the birds into a 9 minute journey into abstract dance. once again, we’re talking unrefined, no compromise house music here, the likes of which you won’t be hearing on an mos compilation anytime soon

prepare to enter the sombrero galaxy. journey to the centre of the sun, the debut release from lovefingers highly anticipated imprint esp institute, is a collaborative effort from londoner jonny nash (discosession) and dutchman tako reyenga. the two met years ago whilst jonny was working and living in tokyo and tako made his way over to dj. around the same time, lovefingers linked up with these two and a musical family had formed. that being told, its only natural for sombrero galaxy to find its home and represent the face of the esp insitute. journey to the centre of the sun is a dive into a moody, visceral and ethereal headspace brought to life through shimmering synthesizers, swirling guitars and a chugging bassline coupled with live percussion, clearly setting the bar higher than the bulk of contemporary electronic music. on the b side, the stallions (lovefingers and lee douglas) reinterpret the track with optimism, nicely complimenting the original with a light and cloudy yet driving house version. this is the music of dreams, keep an eye on esp institute in this new decade.

after a short hiatus, kelvin andrews world famous stable for his own and likeminded producers (like mark e & mark seven) secret dj weapons is back to the fray with a truly timeless compilation of balearic belters. lovingly compiled by kelvin himself and the infamous balearic mike (creator of the sublime cosmic alphonsus series and head of the fascinating rhythms record label - remember last years >reckoner< rework which sold out in 2 days ?) this is a very limited sampler 12 from the cd compilation (which will be available very soon exclusively to all ears - more info to follow) all the tracks are licensed and 100% legit, so the guys wanted to release a 12 inch treat featuring two of the more floor friendly numbers, knocked into seriously good shape by danny mekanik (one half of soul mekanik with older brother kelvin!). already a hot topic on the blogs and likely to be the cd soundtrack of the summer, this is a superbly curated collection, and a killer sampler.

its still like that: even though digital is everywhere there is still something very special about having your own tracks on a vinyl release. so this is it again: the very best of the last releases on koletzki_s sublabel stil vor talent digital on a double-sided vinyl edition. starting off with two tracks by bruch & junior that couldnt be more different: while >fiesta de la residencia< sounds like somebody threw some spanish vocals and trumpets into a pool of tech-house beats and basslines at a maniac afterhour on the white island (ergo: great),>sunset< is the deeply euphoric sound for the morning after. the synthesizers so crisp and all around you, the beat and bassline so warm and seductive: this is purely magical music that will make you forget when the sun went down or up the last time while still making you want to shake your legs to the strong bassline and chunky loop. hit! on the flip then comes a re-work of a massive hit on stil vor talent: a 2010 version of nicones >una rosa< complete with the original spanish vocals, but a much more grooving loop that turns into an absolute percussion fest. claps turn into effects and we all raise our hands to those reverbed original vocals. last up australian murat kilic with the wonderfully oldskool house anthem >summer traffic<: great melodic pads, a superbly harmonic bassline and when the breakdown kicks in, an ever-indulging xylophon melody. this whole record has got summer written all over it and helps us all get through this icy winter.

marco passarani has done the honours on the flip side. a workaholic from the eternal city of rome, marco is the linchpin of the italian techno scene. he produces under the aliases js pool, monomorph and ambit 3 for the labels skam, hymen, clone and peacefrog, and also runs his own labels plasmek, pigna and nature records marcos >fall into me< remix is unmistakably influenced by hiscarefully nurtured detroit roots. however, he employs these stylistic elements very discreetly, retains beats, melody and vocals in his arrangement, takes out a little of the decorative padding from the album, then finally hits us with a wonderful, trancey eight-tone sequence to send us into the realm of dancefloor dreams for ever.

stroboscopic artefacts third release sees label owner lucy and underground trailblazer ercolino, inspired by novelist michael endes imagery, create two visions of a nihilistic future. the 12inch begins with the tale of fear incarnate >gmork<, the most powerful weapon for controlling society. the a-side is a portrait of this terrifying beast: slinking baselines come from its black heartbeat and white noise grows from its unearthly appetites. fat, squelching noises emerge as light, hope and ideas are quashed, ground up and eaten. the sound is viscose, violent and deep seething red. what emerges is a genius slice of dark, brooding techno crafted from the nectar of your darkest nightmare. the story gets even bleaker with b-side >so the nothing grows stronger<, a narrative of blips, bleeps and squeals. this extreme dub techno track is a mutinous call to arms, the sound of the insurgence. here beats forge together, fortified by a devastating charge, till the track crunches away into nothingness

pornographic is back in the scene after the special celebration picture disc for its 25th release. now we have new for 2010: the 28th special cut. complete with pornographic artwork like we are used to from the label we have a very special release by luxembourgs vic miranda and toni moreno. vic has a wicked line-up of releases out there and coming up on labels like naked lunch and more. this track is a perfect example of his dancefloor ortientated techno with a funky influence. cristian varela liked it so much he remixed it for the second track of this ep! on the flip we find the funky mambo sound of toni moreno. this is definitely a man to follow in the future if you are into this style techno. funky edits and infectious vocals take you on a trip from start till end! tip!

sister label to markantonios analytic trail imprint, mkt records is all aboutproviding a channel for different concepts in techno music. looking forward in to the future of electronic music, mkt is a space for new sounds to develop, evolve and emerge. originally created as a home for markantonios experimental work, mkt has developed into a destination label for all forward-thinking techno acts. unearthing a never-ending conveyer belt of neapolitan techno talent, markantonios mkt records have consistently struck gold with a series of eps from emerging artists such as joseph capriati, mladen tomic and flavio diaz. this time out label boss markantonio takes the controls for an ep of his own.
title track >play the music< kicks off the ep in understated but highly effective style. forged from a brooding low-down bass with plenty of wiggle this track cuts a heavy mechanical groove through waves of sci-fi effects as it builds and drops.
>funky junkie< pumps up the tempo for a full-on ride through funked-uppercussive techno. centered on a groove of big heavy kicks and jacking snaresthis inventive vocal track joins the dots between early chicago house and techno.

the heels of love, the new milan based duo born from the joint between michele tessadri (fratelli riviera, bearfunk) and sapo (member of the love supremeproject on tirk) >two disco reprimands with an unhealthy penchant for slap bass, synths and vintage drum machines< has made a lot of noise lately with just a couple of works. after debuting here on mom with a huge remix that made its way up to beats in space and tsugis 2009 best of compilation they have had the first official release on david griffiths (the man behind jisco music) new label, under the shade. this one has sent them right into the chart of almost every known dj of the scene. >quiet please< is a slow, 110 bpm groovy piece of psychedelic disco that has its force in the balanced mix of the wobbling analog bassline, the p-funk guitars and the old flavouredsynth riffs reminescent of 1992 chicago house.

played by karotte !!! with his newest ep on wagon repair (ghosts in the ai - wag058), mathew jonson looks to both the past and future to create a stunning release. track 1 - ghosts in the ai - is the first solo production that was made in wagon repairs new berlin studios. finally, in a real place to work, and with a lot of new gear to play with, mathew focuses on evoking both the future and technology to wonderful affect. track 2 - technology - comes from mathews past as it was created around the same time as tracks like octagon came out on iiwii. originally, it was going to be the first cut on his debut album that he was planning to release. on the day that mathew was looking for a b-side track for the ghosts in the ai ep, his brother, nathan (hrdvsion), played it over the phone asking him why he had not released it, as it was one of nathans favourites. it worked much better than the other track that was going to be on here so thanks, hrdvsion. track 3 - the alchemist - comes from mathews involvement this summer producing the music score for the old classic silent film faust, which was screened, complete with cobblestone jazz playing the score live, at the 2009 timewarp festival. the alchemist was written for the scene when faust is working in his laboratory then walks out into the snow to summon the devil to help with his work. a fitting piece indeed!

the groovers sound is the result of a lot of late nights, forged and crafted with utter devotion to creating a unique sound. all our influences were bought into the studio and from the tension between a love and knowledge of various musical styles and modes, of temperament and personality we found that it clicked. the result of this collaboration between finn campbell-notman and steve ferrand is ten track collection of songs from slow to mid to house tempos. each time we worked on a track or song we asked ourselves >is this a groovers track< and the only criteria in deciding if it was was >does it feel like one or not< this feel that we were searching for is: that bittersweet, syncopated and soulful one that we both love regardless of genre. our influences range from deep deep dancefloor house, early downtempo, latin soul, boogie, southern funk, and shimmering techno

plastique de rêves new single on david carrettas label space factory disques follows up on last years fantastic release on dfa with its summer !!, a perfect techno-pop summer hit with another great feature by vocalist ghostape, and dives further into the realms of electrodisco, synth-pop, and cosmic music. ultra synthetic and light-hearted, yet dreamy and emotional, the three tracks (four on the digital release) each capture with authenticity the essence of electronic disco music but pay tribute to it here in a very original, playful and modern way. its summer !! is a great follow-up to plastique de rêves previous singles on dfa and supersoul recordings, also featuring ghostape on vocals. this time the music goes even deeper into the worlds of synth-pop and electronic disco, with reminiscences of vince clarkes yazoo, giorgio moroder or kelley polar. the sunny, laidback, pop radio atmosphere, together with ghostapes emotional build up of the deliberately simplest lyrics ever written so far, might well keep you smiling, and dancing, all summer.

the >murmur ep<, limited edition of 500 units in coloured vinyl, the sight belows followup to 2008s full-length glider, is a bracing step forward for the reclusive seattle-based artist, comprising two new songs and a notable remix. the sight below uses the murmur ep as an opportunity for expansion, turning up the contrast on his silky tones to expose an even more deeply textured sound with a powerful emotional effect. on the >murmur ep<, the textures are denser, courser—closer to kevin shields jagged oceans of guitar than gliders wisps of reverb — and the beats are meatier, funkier even. the sight below comes close to recording a real dance track with >murmur<, slipping a skipping syncopation and an honest-to-god bass line into a roiling cloud of distortion. >wishing me asleep< incorporates bits of strings into the mix for a touch of cinematic melancholy.

we had some unfinished business, so after long deliberation her is the return of creme jak! jtc (aka james t cotton) opens this ep with a devastating 70s disco/funk/jak hybrid, hypnotizing crowds with a repetitive funk guitar and throwing them into a jakking frenzy with a steamrolling basskick counterpoint. simply jak-tastic! followed by a silky chicago dub jakker for the comedown and were ready for 2am/fm. or are we? these two cats rave up the place with some of their patented deep rolling chicago-house influenced trax, but spice it up with a thick-slick muddy bassline before erupting like old yeller. top
