phace aka florian harres veröffentlicht sein fünftes album “between” auf neosignal recordings. zuvor veröffentlichte er vier alben: “shape the random” (2015), “raum und zeit” (als neosignal) (2013), “from deep space” (2010) und das legendäre “psycho” album (2007) auf teebees label subtitles.
phace, momentan wohl deutschlands bekanntester drum & bass-produzent, hat seit 2003 einen eigenen sound in der internationalen drum & bass-szene etabliert. neben future music awards und “album des monats”-auszeichnungen im britischen mixmag magazin, kamen unzählige signings von internationalen labels wie virus, renegade hardware, vison, subtitles und lifted, so dass phace international und über die genregrenzen hinweg ein echter star geworden ist. seine musik erscheint in sets von größen wie goldie, andy-c, pendulum, noisia, spor oder d bridge. neben all den weltweiten touren schaffte es phace in zusammenarbeit mit misanthrop ende 2008 sein eigenes label neosignal ins leben zu rufen.

berlin based co-founder of visionquest shaun reeves has gradually carved out his unique take of raw, minimalistic house music over the years via releases on dorian paics raum...musik, one records, his new shantu label alongside tuccillo and of course his own visionquest. here we see him pairing up with canadian duo maher daniel and amir javasoul who together as creatures of habit have been picking up attention from the likes of ricardo villalobos, zip, raresh and apollonia amongst others. here marking the debut of their collaborative creatures of shaun guise the duo offer up their mind over matters ep, the title-track leads and lays down mind bending, modulating percussion and synth swirls alongside bumpy bass grooves and hypnotic atmospherics whilst stirring in a tripped-out spoken word vocal sample to further fuel the psychedelic house feel. blink follows and tips the focus over to resonant subs, stripped-back organic percussion and murky vocal swells, again resulting in something mesmerizing and groove-led before out of orbit reduces things even further to refined shuffled hats, minute rhythmic modulations and snaking bass flutters.

man kann eben doch auf deutsch über die liebe und ihr scheitern singen, ohne schlagermusik zu machen! auf alle liebe nachträglich lassen mine und fatoni kitsch und schwulst keinerlei raum: es geht um den scherbenhaufen danach, die konsequenzen eigenen handelns, die unumkehrbarkeit einmal getroffener entscheidungen und das wissen um all diese dinge. was bleibt nach dem ende einer beziehung? verletzte gefühle, vorwürfe, ein scherbenhaufen – und manchmal ein song wie »keine liebe nachträglich«.
die elektronisch grundierte popmusik, die mine und fatoni zu diesem dialog finden, vollbringt ein wahres wunder. mit anklängen an ndw, pop noir, und hiphop illustrieren die beiden ihr anliegen kongenial. diese musik entwickelt eine unwiderstehliche sogwirkung, weil man gleich spürt: mine und fatoni verraten ihre themen nicht. deshalb gelingen ihnen momente aufrichtiger wahrhaftigkeit.

visionquest special edition returns this september with sakro s supersymmetry ep. edgardo alonso aka mexican producer and dj sakro has been rising up the ranks over the past few years with his raw, stripped-back approach to house seeing him release material with revered imprints in the field such as raum...musik, housewax, karlovak and fathers & sons. here we see the sakro joining the roster of visionquest offshoot special edition, the vinyl only imprint home to material from ricardo villalobos, craig richards, wareika and konrad black amongst others. up first on the package is lusyd , a shuffling percussion fuelled number featuring swinging snares, murky atmospheric pads and choppy sub bass hits at its core. jazz in mars follows embracing robust rhythms and an amalgamation of jazzy sample snippets alongside resonant synth swells to create a sturdy peak time workout. voices opens the b-side of the release with heavily swung drums, smooth ethereal chords and lumpy sub frequencies while a dark and brooding vocal ebbs and flows throughout the composition. title-cut supersymmetry then closes out the release with an energetic rhythmic drive, intricately modulating synth flutters and snaking pad lines.

h.takahashi, tokyo based architect and sound designer follows up his revered collection where to be? on where to now? records with raum, a full length lp suite of meditative pulse minimalism. raum draws its cues from a melting pot of closely connected yet wholly individual strands of minimalism - from the japanese minimalist works from the likes of hiroshi yoshimura and satoshi ashikawa, to masters such as erik satie and john cage, and ambient leaders brian eno and roedelius, takahashi soaks this historical influence and rings it out it through a modern filter to create a record of stillness, ethereal beauty, and transcendent energy. takahashi composes all of his music on his iphone, and this is no gimmick, rather a conscious decision which allows takahashi to constantly create on the go without the constraints of space, and for takahashi raum serves as a mediation on the relationship between sound and its environment. for takahashi this creative process feels something like an invisible phenomenon taking over & mutating these constantly changing spaces into abstract sound, creating a brief pseudo space which expresses and highlights the features of the environment for a moment in time.” although perhaps quite an abstract statement of intent, when deeply immersed into takahashi’s pieces this idea of slowly gliding through different architectural spaces is naturally conjured through the gentle repetitive pulse which runs through his work and the playful unstructured tonality of objects which weave around this forward (or upward) motion. raum was created across the city of tokyo, be it a café / park / office / road / platform / subway these pieces explore the power sound holds to emotionally enhance and mutate the listeners environment. the power of the music presented is in that which is barely there, embracing space, silence, and cyclical repetition. the music is to help us function - it s music to work to, to sleep to, to help us find a sense of space and oneness within a world that is increasingly wild and untameable.

renowned argentinean artist franco cinelli returns to unlock recordings with three intricate cuts from the vault this september. one of argentina s most respected producers, franco cinelli has been making music for over two decades. the rosario-born artist has made a name for himself with excellent releases on the likes of djulz bass culture, esperanza and raum...music, not to mention his collaborative project alongside dario zenker named maria fresca on ilian tape. with so many of the upper echelons of house, techno and minimal supporting his tracks, including ricardo villalobos himself, franco cinelli s inimitable productions are not to be overlooked. originally released in 2009 and now finally getting a proper vinyl release, cinelli s remix of saccobros why not constructs an energetic narrative that extends over ten minutes. tight kicks work alongside looped atmospherics as a muffled hook and infectious sample add to the heightening suspense. cuts from the vault also sees two new productions from the argentinian. morph sense is the more twisted of the two, demonstrating a medley of clicks and whirrs whilst sci-fi inspired arpeggios operate throughout. as the name suggests, dub sine of the moon is the deepest cut on the package, with its crunchy percussion and subterranean tape delays that form a hypnotizing aesthetic from start to finish.

shaun reeves & tuccillo mark visionquest’s first release of 2017 with their ‘origin 99’ ep, comprising four collaborative original tracks from the pair. individually shaun reeves and tuccillo have been driving forces in the realms of underground house for quite some time, collectively releasing on labels such as raum, 2020 vision, circus company and more. this time round though the pair’s material finds a home with visionquest, label co-founder shaun reeves joins forces with tuccillo, following his solo ‘full time’ ep on the imprint in 2016, for a new synergistic release. up first is title track ‘origin 99’ which sees the pair deliver a smooth understated house style via organic percussion, winding dub stabs and tension building atmospheric to create a subtly evolving six and a half minute cut. ‘one two five’ follows and lays focus on a more stripped-back aesthetic with sparse rhythmic hits, tumbling sub hits and a dreamy bell chime melody. ‘prowler’ opens the latter half of the package with soft chord sequences and wandering delayed synth lines running alongside 303 bass and shuffled snares before ‘blood moon’ closes the package on a raw minimalistic vibe with swirling dub echoes and intricately evolving percussion.

for mimi music, komplexx (poolside recordings / silhouette noir) has delivered a melodic techno / progressive crossover. this moody tune is deep yet melodious and builds beautifully. it’s just one of those tracks that works, with its genre-crossing coolness and excellent production. the remix is provided by our lovely house-specialist sascha dive (deep vibes, cocoon, raum). the german master turns the original into a brooding techno affair which is driven by thumping bass and sparse percussive elements. the remix keeps building until there’s nowhere left to hide, turning the track into an absolute floorfiller!

„obsidian“ lässt raum für melodie zwischen den kicks und snares und öffnet sich dem hörer in einem traumähnlichen gefilde. damage verzichtet dabei eher auf rohe beats, tracks wie „cosmonaut“, „parallax view“ und „transmission“ liefern aber mit sicherer schlagkraft einen adrenalinschub. es sind jedoch die sphärischen titel wie „pulse width“ und „poly“, das acid-angehauchte „tetrapod“ und das großartige „shimmer“, mit denen sich der künstler tiefer in das unbekannte wagt. man fühlt sich an die genialität von afx, skam und autechre erinnert. „obsidian“ zeichnet sich durch ein zusammenspiel von wärme, herz, seele und viel viel schweiß aus und zeichnet somit ein perfektes bild und ein grandioses finale für das label. benjamin damage selbst beschreibt das album als: -collection of fragmented memories from all the music i’ve ever liked, distorted and restructured into a full length techno record. a purely personal project and an end of an era with 50weapons.” man vergisst schnell, dass benjamin damage erst seit 2010 platten veröffentlicht. nur zwei jahre, nachdem sein erster track released wurde, erschien sein hochgelobtes debüt-album „they!live“ zusammen mit doc daneeka. damages erste solo-album folgte im folgenden jahr und zeigte eine entwicklung hin zum von plaid und jeff mills geprägten sonic sci-fi. kritiker lobten die wärme und rückkehr des souls in die von kälte geprägte welt des berlin-techno.

um das warten zu verkürzen, folgt nun die zweite 12- auskopplung mit zwei weiteren tracks aus dem neuen pan-pot album -the other-. -fist bump from destiny- rollt über nahezu 10 minuten auf einem durch fieberhaft rotierende töne hypnotisierenden groove, der uns im höhepunkt das gefühl von raum und zeit verlieren lässt. auf der flipside schiebt sich -operator- wie ein unverwüstliches schiff durch den dichtesten nebel in finsterer nacht mit einer regelmäßig anschwellenden bassline, die einem dröhnenden nebelhorn gleicht, während eine stetig zunehmende synthline das momentum aufbaut.

das neue album *geister* unterhält, nimmt mit, schafft einen raum, in den man eintauchen kann. gleichzeitig macht es einen für bestimmte dinge einfühlsamer, sensibler, aufmerksamer. das alles geschieht ohne erhobenen zeigefinger, auf eine sanfte art, in der auch klavierpedale knarzen dürfen und nicht jedes unliebsame geräusch herausgeschnitten wurde. die texte fesseln, doch sie liefern keine parolen, sie stiften gedanken. gloria greifen dinge auf, die wir zu übersehen drohen, um sie behutsam in unseren blick zu legen. *geister* ist ein musikalisch und inhaltlich facettenreiches album, das bewegt. die lp auf klarem vinyl in bedruckten innentaschen erscheint inklusive cd.

time for some double dutch action with apollonia’s latest release, which comes courtesy of makcim & levi. the twosome have already been picking up steam in their native holland, playing at many of the country’s best-known clubs over the last few years, establishing themselves as selectors in a class of their own. and their prowess as djs is equal to their talents as producers, with their very first ep appearing on raum musik and finding its way into apollonia’s sets. now they’ve got together once again to produce their second ep just for the apollonia guys…the ‘more lettuce’ ep fits perfectly into the french label’s sound ethic, emitting a dark groovy energy throughout. for starters we have ‘more lettuce’, a gritty tech-driven monster on a mission. with its gravely percussion and air-raid siren-esque effects this is a surefire dance floor killer… listen out for the switch of pace, class. this is followed by ‘tegel’, presumably named after the airport in berlin. with this we get a kind of dingy berlin vibe, morose, grey yet ingrained with a bouncing energy that you just can’t help but bop your head to. on the flip side ‘thaiman’ injects a slightly odd feel to the ep with warped, muted sounds meandering around a subtle bassline. finally, makcim & levi close up the ep with ‘dope erwt’ another roller that will enchant the dance floor from the start, building into a bright, airy breakdown before continuing in its somber yet groovy manner.

two dubbed techno wonders on a coloured 7 platter. lars fenin, born and raised in hamburg has been around the music scene in berlin since the mid 90ties as reggae guitarist/songwriter/live-act/artist/producer/dj. his first experiments in electronic music started in 1998 with some friends in hamburg, followed two years later by his first ep release called &#8243,,,,,herr pitzelberger dreht auf” for the berlin based label shitkatapult. since then fenin has released several eps and albums for his homies shitkatapult as well as 12&#8243,,,,,, s and remixes for labels like echocord, revolver, eintakt and mitek among others. along the years he could boast collaborations with artists such as deadbeat, mikael stavostrand, d-meteo, k.j. gibbs,horace andy, der dritte raum, eraldo bernocchi and jeff milligan. since 2008 he runs also his own label called dock-records. soundwise, fenins productions range from roots reggae/dub pieces to cordish/melodic techno sets and electronic alike soundscapes. the future is unwritten.

we are pleased as punch to welcome guillaume & the coutu dumonts for his freerange debut with the revolution in the cycles ep. the plucky canadian via berlin producer will be well known to most of you through his releases on labels such as circus company, oslo and raum musik or maybe you witnessed the master at work crafting one of his amazing live sets. either way, you’ll know how he likes it, mixing up his deep understanding of rhythm from his years spent playing drums with the unquestioned groove of house and hypnotic beauty of techno. the result is a unique, slightly wonky brand of off kilter house which is perfectly summed up here on this three track ep.

after the great debut of vrac comes lumieux withs his eudem ep. lumieux is a young talented guy, based in bucharest. he delivers two original tracks on the a-side. the b-side comes with an additional remix from ion ludwig. we are very happy to welcome this two guys to the subtil family.

brand new sub-label of the long-standing and highly respected adult only imprint from chris carrier. the first release comes from romania dj/producer funk e, who made his name as resident of the musically forward-thinking ibiza party zoo project, and has released on names as big as raum and desolat. the 2-track package is made with the dancefloor in mind, pumping tech-house that feels nicely minimal, with plenty of drive and bassline.
